I would love Shurmur over KOC.
Young, rising, offensive coordinators are all the rage right now. While I dont think KOC has done anything even remotely remarkable yet, he's talked about enough that, if he has a great year or two, he'll be a serious HC candidate in 2021 or 2022. So if he sucks, we clearly don't want him. But if he's good, we're going to lose him and have to look for another OC again. Shurmur, on the other hand, is a proven, excellent OC who has failed twice as a head coach. I doubt he gets a 3rd chance any time soon. We would have him for as long as we want him. Give me the proven high-quality candidate who will remain with the team several years over gambling on a young rising star, who, if he works out, will just leave to help some other team.
Too much logic BHA. Too. Much. Logic. |
Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
I think that KOC will be okI don't trust that Turner thing...[his dad was a turd as coach].

Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
I was curious about how good or bad Carolina's training and medical staff were, so I tried googling various statistics. I'm not sure what metrics might best show it, but Football Outsiders' adjusted games lost(AGL) seemed like one that might be valuable, and then I also found a report on the most injury prone teams that showed the last 4 seasons for all teams.
from Football Outsiders' AGL 2018, Carolina was ranked 26th in 2018, but 7th in 2017. The Skins were ranked 24th in 2018, but 32nd in 2017. The other NFL injuries by team showed the following : Carolina year - IR 2015 - 9 2016 - 14 2017 - 14 2018 - 20 Total = 57 (12th least IR) Washington 2015 - 19 2016 - 18 2017 - 20 2018 - 28 Total = 85 (31st) Minnesota was the best with only 35 IR players over those 4 years New Orleans (surprisingly to me) was the worst with 88 IR players over those 4 years (19, 31, 27, 11) I don't suppose that proves much about Vermillion as a hire, but I think it's safe to say that the Skins needed a major overhaul in their staff. |
Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
Alex Marvez
✔ Source tells @SiriusXMNFL that @Chargers asst DBs coach Chris Harris will be leaving to become new @Redskins DBs coach. Chris played in the NFL for eight years (2005-2012) before branching into coaching. |
Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
Cred that's probably the best way to statistically analyze how good a head athletic trainer is in the NFL lol. I like to think the grass will be greener just because it's gotta be very hard to be so terrible with injuries 3 years in a row.

Spotrac lets you sort by amount of cap and cash spent to IR per team per year. Shockingly for 2019 the Skins had the most cap space in IR (49Mil for 27 players) and the most cash tied up in IR (39M). Carolina was 5th most in cap at 27Mil, 10Mil of which was Cam Newton Our number did include all 17 weeks of Alex Smith and 8 weeks of Trent Williams contracts |

Per Julie Donaldson: @JDonaldsonNBCS
Lots of info swirling: As far as the future for Redskins’ Eric Schaffer, sources tell me he was offered a contract extension in the fall, but did not sign. As reported, he has been told the team will not be renewing his contract when it expires in May. |
Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
Schefter said LB coach was Russ...
Redskins’ HC Ron Rivera is hiring his former LB coach in Carolina, Steve Russ, to do the same job in Washington, per source. So Rivera reaching back to Carolina connections as he establishes himself in Washington. Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
It sounds like Josh McDaniels getting a HC job would mean we would probably lose KOC. I’d probably try to get Pat S deal done and get Scott turner as QB coach

KOC is under contract, right? I mean, I would be happy with Shurmer, but KOC can't just tell us he is leaving to go to the Giants (if that is where McDaniels goes), right? |

Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
I will feel better knowing who Rivera tabs as the o coordinator. Looking less likely like O'Connell but we'll see. I think McCarthy to Dallas is a good move for them. Don't know how I feel about Nolan honestly. Heard mixed reviews. I'd still rather have Rivera over McCarthy and love getting JDR!
Anyone else hearing anything else at all about the o coordinator search? |

Especially if it's the Giants, I think Pick 249 sounds fair. :-)
Lateral moves require permission. I think that is why we named Callahan an Asst Head Coach a few years ago and named KOC off coord. Reported last year that the Skins denied permission to a few teams re a lateral move trying to interview KOC for the Off Coord position. |

word is that turner will be the new redskins O.C.

The #Giants have requested permission to speak with former #Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, sources tell me and
@MikeGarafolo . He’s still under contract in Dallas until Jan. 14, so permission is required. bahahaha |

How does anyone even look at McDaniels at this point? He quit when at the time he had Andrew Luck. He was garbage at Denver and wanted Orton over Cutler, then drafted Tebow in round one. His offense sucked when he was at St Louis. I just don't get it. |
Re: Coaching and Front Office Changes
The #Redskins are zeroing in on Scott Turner as their offensive coordinator, source said. The 37-year-old impressed calling plays as #Panthers interim OC last month. Now, a potential reunion with Ron Rivera in the works.

I really don't know much about Scott but what I love about this move is that KOC was not just given the job, i believe it shows a culture change. Whether its a good move;ST over KOC is yet to be seen. |
