Solid move, it's good to have depth we can rely on. |

Good story here: Former #Giants OL Nick Gates, who broke his left fibula and tibia in a game against Washington in 2021 and battled his way back from seven surgeries, is headed to … Washington. Gates has agreed to terms on a three-year deal with the #Commanders, source says. |

Source: Former #Chiefs RT Andrew Wylie plans to sign a 3-year, $24M deal with the Washington Commanders, reuniting him with OC Eric Bieniemy. Wylie started 59 games in five years for KC and had the game of his life in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia. Now a nice payday. |

Was better at guard in KC but forced to play RT during Super Bowl run. Him and Cosmi new right side, positions TBD |

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
So now that we have 2 OL, cut Lucas, Roullier, Norwell and draft a LT and G.

Nick Gates's agreement with the Commanders: 3 years with a max value of $18 million, with $8 million guaranteed, per source. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Two value signings
OT Andrew Wylie: Signing a three-year, $24 million contract. (Tom Pelissero) OL Nick Gates: Agreed to terms on a three-year, $16.5 million deal. The contract has a max value of $18 million and includes $8 million guaranteed. (Mike Garafolo) |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
G/C flexibility is key for us. Both our guards stunk and our C is always injured. Great to have a guy that can play both, as he will likely have to do that here this coming season.

Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Wylie is a huge signing.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
At this point I would cut Norwell and Lucas, restructure Roullier if possible, trade Logan Thomas and JDM.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
I'm wondering and hoping that Snyder is not having any type of involvement in free agency this year. Given how much he has been basically sucking cash from the team, I wonder if in the past this has affected the ability to get decent free agency signing, and going the cheap route with the Trai Turners and Andrew Norwell types. Hell, I feel this was happening even during the Bruce/Jay years.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Leno, Gates, Roullier, Cosmi, Wylie.
I imagine this is our starting OL as of right now. Nice to add 2 guys before the draft. Good work so far Riverboat. |

Thomas and JDM are coming back from pretty bad injuries, highly doubt there'd be any trade value for them. |

Good work so far Riverboat.[/quote] The best thing that could happen to us at the C position would be for Roullier to get and stay healthy. His play at C didn't regress; he's just been hurt. I assume Gates is fully recovered or he wouldn't have gotten such a nice guarantee. Nobody knows the ability of Wylie better than EB so I'm very confident in his signing. Cosmi would be badass at RG. So, where did all the FA money come from? Team sale this month? |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
We need to get a LT in the first round. There are a handful. Our oline would be vastly, vastly improved…at least on paper. Can still get a good corner and ilb early in the draft. Than just go bpa for depth. Picking up two starters on the oline really opens shit up. This is very good news.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
All of course subject to passing physicals on Wednesday, particularly Gates though I think he played last year didn't he?

Ron already said he didn't want to go into the draft with needs at some positions. This gives him flexibility but it would be nice to see some young guys added to the OL, especially a LT. |

Honestly, I thought Leno was our best Olineman last year, but he is in the last year of his deal. |

Leno is fine, and if he leaves next year he counts towards the comp pick formula, whereas if we cut him this year he won't. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Still think a LT and G prospect are high priorities for the draft. Roullier is a good player, but I ain't counting on him for 17 games. So its likely Gates will start some games at C, and someone would need to play for him at LG. Or the rookie could possibly start and Gates could be used in the role of Wes Schweitzer. Swing G that can play C if needed. His contract isn't so prohibitive where he has to start to be of value (as compared to his contract).

Paying his ass $9.25 mil this year. I would seriously consider trading Samuel, he's on the hook for $10.1 mil |
Re: Commanders 2023 Free Agency Thread
Is a starting OT likely still there at #16? Most projections suggest one of the top 3 CBs will be there. Unless we trade back of course. Signing these 2 and Johnson (depth) suggests to me they'll go after a starting CB as priority. I'd still take an OT at 16 if he's BPA, but I'd rather have a top CB right now. With St Juste as #3 we'd have probably the top DL and secondary in the division. Add another starting LB and we have a D with no holes.
2 more OL in draft and a TE; what's left? Could go BPA with 5 or 6 picks and end up with a good young roster. Agree on Samuel, though I'd rather try and restructure him. He was pretty solid last year. But if Dotson moves up to #2, 10M is a lot for a #3/gadget WR. |

That isn’t saying much. Our oline was piss poor across the board. I remember thinking turnstile a lot. |
