I was thinking we would take a look at Brandon Spikes but he signed a 1 yr. deal with the Bills. I hope we can get a deal with Donald Penn Saturday .
If I had to guess, I'd bet on Donald Penn getting more money from Oakland, but it's a good sign that there's really only two teams in the running.
I could see the Bengals or Panthers getting involved if the price falls far enough. |
Hatcher will be 32, but he hardly has alot of wear and tear on his body. His first start was 2010.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
So Porter got 6mil over 2 years, he is worth that.

That's very fair for both sides. |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this signing. In fact, it's a great signing for us. We're getting a disruptive player who will push the pocket. He has relatively low mileage in terms of career snaps. Has has proven to be durable. We're getting him on what is essentially a two-year cap friendly deal. He was a Pro Bowl player in 2013 when he had more sacks than Brian Orakpo. What more could you want from Bruce Allen? Perhaps he could come over your place and wash your car if that would make you happier.
I like the signing. I am getting adjusted to new way of doing business at Redskins park. The safety position needs to be addressed with a veteran. I am surprised we haven't set an appointment with Chris Clemons. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Skins aren't very high on Clemons apparently.
Keim: I’ll get there in a minute. First, though, they can help the safety position by improving the pass rush and that’s what they feel they’re doing by tweaking their scheme and adding Jason Hatcher. If they do that, then the secondary will be helped. That said, they still need more bodies deep. From what I’ve heard they did not view certain safeties, such as Miami’s Chris Clemons, as better than what they had a year ago with Brandon Meriweather (and only a slight upgrade over Reed Doughty). I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both of those players returned. Doughty would not be brought back to start. I also think there’s a split opinion of him in the building. I think they still like some of the young safeties. If Phillip Thomas recovers well from his Lisfranc injury, that would help. But even then it will take time. I couldn't agree more. I like the way Clemons plays the game. I'm mystified that there hasn't been more of a market for his services. We should take advantage. He's way better than anyone we currently have. Add Penn and Clemons plus a couple vet min types and I'll be satisfied with what we've done in FA this year. Edit: Based on the above post, nevermind about Clemons. |

Clemons not even ranked on this list.
ummmm, neither are Lauvao or Tracy Porter. 2014 NFL Football Free Agents - CBSSports.com Free Agent Tracker 2014 NFL Football Free Agents - CBSSports.com Free Agent Tracker At the same time, I get it. Someone please tell me how Clemons is an upgrade and, please, spare me the "Anything has to be better" b/c it's just not true. If Clemons is better, why? Is it just change for change's sake then? To me its just a bunch a guys out there at the position. Not seeing any urgency at this point - for Clemons or anyone else. Find the best "just a guy' who fits what you're trying to do and cross your fingers. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I'd rather get Donald Penn signed over a safety at this point. And keep looking of course.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I get frustrated when someone reports that the Redskins don't see Clemons as an upgrade on Meriweather, because it reinforces that the front office isn't great at this "good player" "bad player" thing.
But I also can't get that worked up over them not bringing in Clemons because I know that if his end of season medicals checked out completely clear with no issue, he would have gotten more interest around the league, and Miami wouldn't have replaced him with Louis 'freakin Delmas. It's pretty clear that Miami doesn't think he's as good as he played last year either. If that's the case, then the right move is to move on and keep bringing in guys for interviews. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Tell me Clemons strengths. Why is he an upgrade? Not disputing it one way or another, I guess it just seems to me the interest in him is a bit knee jerk ... a name that got mentioned and repeated.
I have seen him ranked everywhere from the top safety after Byrd, Whitner and Ward to completely unmentioned. What's his game and why is he a "good player"? |
