So if Griffins knee is not ready until October/November you would start Pat White?
C'mon man......
Concur! How could anyone watch Kirk Cousins perform last year and decide that he should be traded because he plays a different game than RGIII? You go with best player available at the QB position and adjust the offense accordingly. Kirk Cousins is a top 32 qb in this league and would be a starter on any number of teams. We need to keep him for a minimum of this year and most likely at least 2 more seasons till we can draft another qb in the later rounds and develop into a backup.

Pat White would have to have an AMAZING camp to have a chance to make the team, and there is no way his spot comes at the expense of KC's. Either Grossman or another positional player would be let go.
I seriously don't understand why, after a full season on this board, and with several excellent football discussions of the specifics about the Shanahan stretch run offense tied to the zone read offense thru use of the pistol, some people still call it an attempt to make Griffin into a "running qb". Griffin is a qb. He runs. Those two facts together do not equal the dreaded running qb syndrome.

There are 11 guys on offense and 11 guys on defense. If you force the defense to play against the whole field, you have a higher percentage of winning plays. It really isn't complicated and it isn't some plot to ruin the health of an outstanding young talent.
It's...just...those...pesky...facts! He ran more than any rookie QB in NFL history, and has the injuries to prove it :(

Are we ignoring the fact he was injured while scrambling and not on designed runs?

Griffin's injuries come from Griffin trying to get an extra oomph on critical downs. I can't fault him for that, but it wasn't due to the design of the offense. Right before Ngata hit him (on a scramble) he chose to cut inside. Why, because the game was on the line, and he saw an opportunity to make a play. Love his guts, hate his choice. Had he stepped out of bounds, we probably wouldn't be having this repeated discussion, but he chose to cut inside. Every designed run took him outside to the edge, ie get what you can and get out.

His injuries prove he didn't understand how fast and hard the rest of the NFL is. After his concussion, you never saw him do that same type again all season. He got it, he understood. He will do the same with the Ngata injury. But it will be hard for him.

RG also took brutal, brutal hits in the pocket. More often on drop backs than any other QB per some sources. What's the difference? None, absolutely none.

QBs with shit lines get killed. Just like running QBs get killed. Picking out plays here and there to somehow disregard those two basic realities...are like staring at a single tree in the middle of the forest.

Those were both his fault.
He should have slid way before that.
Rookie mistake + trying to be a hero.

There is a difference.
How many QBs get knee tears and concussions in the pocket.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II

It depends. My point is that a well executed zone-read/stretch run operated from the pistol gives the best protection and utilizes Griffins skills the most. It protects him from pocket collapsing crunch hits, and, if he uses good sideline awareness, protects him from harsh hits that a true running qb ala Vick can take. Certainly our line isn't going to be a line that would protect a non-mobile qb, but that's not the type of offense we are building anyways. Our qb will always have to have some level of mobility, even if it's not Griffinesque.

I wouldn't call those scrambles necessarily.
It was a designed run all right.
Designed by RGII at the last second.
He needs to learn to slide and protect himself.
Hes not Christian Okoye.

Tom Brady tore his knee. Carson Palmer tore his arm and his knee, Big Ben hurt his shoulder, Peyton manning needed 4 neck surgeries, thiesman broke his leg in the pocket... People get injured in the pocket. Elway, young and Rodgers scramble a lot and never really got hurt (young did toward the end though). I do think RG3 will be a great pocket passer in due time. Saw it at Baylor with an average college Oline and I do believe that RG3 will develop into a faster Aaron Rodgers

What is your definition of a scramble then?

Leaving the pocket to avoid a sack.

Granted that a QB would be an idiot to not take advantage of the vacant yards in front of him when that happens, but Bob Griff has a bad case of end zone fever.
I think the Vikings game spoiled him.
