Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
Your post is rational, reasonable, and absolutely a non-starter for the Skins because:
1) we aren't going to have a new GM - maybe a few position name changes but even that's not likely 2) next year our qb play will be subpar and the AS salary cap will pop up as the new excuse for keeping Gruden 3) the injury excuse will still be in play for JG as well since the team will not stop keeping injured talent way past the point they should have been let go 4) it's the Redskins and DS has gone from hyper quick to fire in the early years to holding on too long now.
quoting myself as Gruden proves point 3:
@john_keim Jay Gruden on TE Jordan Reed and his future “tight ends who can win against man and zone are hard to find.” Translation: not in a rush to move on from him.
|
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
What in the world was the purpose of that press conference? We learned nothing new from Gruden except that he has no intentions to change anything as long as he is coach and he doesn't even know if he will keep his job. For what little my opinion is worth, I don't agree with any of his assessments of the players or assistant coaches, and i do not believe that anything will change if he is retained as HC.
p.s. Let's hope that Joe Gibbs or somebody else Dan Snyder respects is trying to talk some sense into his head right this moment. |
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
That doesn’t mean he won’t or will be told to do so.
You’re right. I was able to watch the whole press conference, and he actually said something to the effect of “i don’t even know why I’m doing this” (referring to the press conference). He hasn’t heard from Snyder yet and has no idea when he’ll hear from him. Jay honestly seemed like a combination of defeated and insecure. Several times, he referred to “IF” he’s the coach next year. It was honestly quite surprising to see someone who is supposed to be the leader of the team show show such a lack of... leadership. I’m beginning to think Snyder may be planning on a bigger shakeup than anticipated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I believe that somebody who is very good would take the position.
If a qualified GM candidate: 1. Likes money 2. Wants to have one of the three dozen best jobs in sports 3. Writes himself a good contract 4. Insists that Bruce Allen (the master underminer of all his perceived rivals) no longer be in the organization in any capacity 5. Most importantly, is a strong personality who believes in himself and will not be swayed by anyone to make poor football decisions, then it doesn't have to be an unattractive position.
That is a lot of ifs and I am not sure the #2 applies for the Skins anymore. That is some Dan Snyder thinking that the Skins job is more attractive than it seems. Matty is right the overall perception of the organization means that it is an unattractive option in the national pool of candidates. |

Oh, I'm not kidding myself about the difficulties in hiring a top-notch GM. No challenging task has ever been accomplished by agonizing over the difficulties faced versus getting to work on making it happen. |
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
Gruden looks like a beaten man. That's got to be giving Snyder pause about retaining him.

Nothing would change at all. I hope your last paragraph is the right one and DS is looking for the way to hand off the team completely. This can't be his idea of fun. Just ended, and maybe JG will be gone. He left that podium and looked like thank god that's over. |
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
I'm not watching the press conference but from the tone here it seems Gruden has been worn out by this mediocre season. Maybe we are looking at a full rebuild.
Also if Gruden has no idea why he's even having a press conference why is he even up there? |

Gruden sucks at his press conference.
Gruden looked so defeated. Its almost like Snyder called Him right before he went up to the podium and said “your dog just died. Also you’re fired. oh, and one more thing.... I’m in bed with your wife.” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Also if Gruden has no idea why he's even having a press conference why is he even up there?
Well, according to Gruden - if he's back nothing changes - he keeps Reed, Crowder, PSmith if he is affordable. It's not going to be a full rebuild if JG stays. As to why he was up there, it probably was standard practice to have a Monday recap, but it sounds like the whole team is in standby mode waiting for word from the top. If nothing changes Gruden said that the coordinators will give him their evaluations by Friday... |
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
Isn't it just normal procedure for the HC to have a season ending presser? I don't think it's anything unusual.
If he didn't have one today everyone would be speculating something's up. |

Is something up? Is something not up?
Stay tuned for tomorrow's episode of "Dysfunction in DC: a Red***** Story" |
Re: Time to clean house 1.0.
The fact that Gruden said there has been no communication about the future does seem to say that some thing is going on, or it means the Skins have slipped into some realm of dysfunction the NFL has never seen. BOTH options seem on the table
