This is exactly what I have been trying to explain to my father!

And I completely agree with you...Synder needs to Get Over Himself and pay the man for his talents and services.
How much ? guaranteed money ?
I'm confused on all of this...I don't care who's fault it is at this point. I think both sides screwed themselves.

The Front Office for being too prudent (imagine that!) and Kirk & his agent for being too greedy & just sounding dumb as shit in his sounds bites. ("taking less money wouldn't be fair to QB's that come after me"- get real!).

I am ready to roll the dice and build a better running game & go with McCoy for $20 million less per year. We can use that $20m to help fix the defense & better the run game.

Besides, Kirk is something like 19-21 as a starter...let him go get rich somewhere else and help all those QB's that come after him.
I think I might puke if I hear that one more time. Let's gas up Redskins One and be the off season champs again!

Still going off of what Gruden and Allen said several weeks ago. They seemed positive KC would be back and I'm going to go with that.

I was not impressed with him the games I saw. To me he's a 3rd rounder.

"Washington's front office has never properly respected their own players. They're always showing respect to someone else's."

Maybe the most honest and accurate statement anyone can say about the Redskins under Dan Snyder.
So if not cousins....anybody they got their eye on?

Draft, free agent or say...a backup to the best qb in the league...? Jimmy g trade...that's my hope if not cousins
Whether you like it or not, Bruce and Jay have liked Colt for years. If the Skins didn't trade their 2nd round pick for McNabb in 2010, they likely would have taken Colt that year. Though Kyle and Mike weren't as impressed.

There isn't a clear second choice

Jay has a winning record 2 of 3 years, it is insane to even think he's not safe

You would think that but the qb that is responsible for those years is apparently not safe lol.

I picture Colt McCoy in a dark room in his house drinking a neat scotch sounding like Mr. Burns, "excellent". As of now he has a good chance of being our starting QB next year.

Fire Bruce, extend Gruden and SM, and let's get the ball rolling. I don't think Bruce offers more than the drama that he seems to create. Snyder doesn't need a yes man. I want to see what those 2 can do together for the next few years while Snyder plays the role of good owner.

I thought of a possibility that I don't think I heard or read about (I'll express it because, to me, Cole's and Jeremiah's """reports""" are nothing more than thinking out loud):

Maybe, just maybe, this board wants KC long term but think he's asking too much, and they want to use the non exclusive tag to test his market value and still have the last word.

If you think about it they have nothing to lose:

-either no team offers KC the price he's asking and they can say "see you're not worth THAT much, take this deal";

-either a team offers him the price he wants and they can say "ok, you were right about your market value, we'll match their offer".

(In the first case he could still want to test the open market next season, in the second possibility they could decide the number is crazy high and take negotiate compensation).

Just saying, from a business stand point I can see how they can use the non-exclusive tag as a way to ask other teams to help them know how much KC's worth.

This is definitely entirely sensible and would be the exact tact I would be taking. Probably you as well. The key is that it presumes Allen and Snyder are sensible.

I still don't buy the Jeremiah thing. I insist on multiple sources for something like that before I really start to believe it.

It's amazing how the masses get resigned to losing Cousins based on one guy's thoughts on a radio show. Did you guys see that bookmaker.eu set odds 1-2 that Cousins would be with the team next year?

Meaning they think there's a 66% chance he'll be back. There's a reason Vegas is so glitzy and build such extravagant buildings, they're pretty good at setting odds and making money.

These were my initial thoughts, however, it still wouldn't matter. If Cousins didn't get an offer he liked from other teams this year, he has no obligation to negotiate with the Redskins this year. He can simply play on the tag once more and then hit the open market next year. Either way, Cousins is going to get paid mega-millions.

I think the thinking with the Redskins is that they would like to keep Cousins, but they would like to build a solid team across the board, and it's hard to do that with so much money tied up in one player. They may wind up losing their two top receivers as well, so that's even more bad news.

So, I think the front office is thinking the only play they really have is franchise tagging Cousins again, allowing San Fran to come in and offer him a contract they 'skins don't match, and get San Fran's two first round picks, or some other negotiated trade that's going to make it worthwhile for the Redskins.

I'm going to be a very optimistic, kool-aid drinking Redskins fan for a second and say this: Obviously there is something the coaching staff really likes about Colt McCoy. And since there doesn't seem to be any other serious names in the mix for quarterback, let's assume there's something that McCoy can show us that is every bit as good as the performance Cousins has given us. OK, then you have extra high round draft picks to play with, so you use those picks to help solidify the defense, draft an outstanding running back and/or receiver, because we will probably wind up losing both Garcon and Jackson. Suddenly you have a really young team that has added quality depth across the board. Maybe it turns out to be a similar trade like the Herschel Walker trade? Who knows? Cousins is a very good quarterback, but he isn't the end all/be all of quarterbacks, so maybe losing him wouldn't be the end of the world. </end kool-aid drinking>
