That is the funny part there is no US standard he made that up! Like 90% of the crap he spews on here.
Lol I gotta agree with you. I think the 5 star system is the most widely used but its not a standard system. People use whatever system they want. |

Just epic in this thread
wtf are you going on about. as long as the rater says x out of 4 or y out of 5 the reader on a Skins site gets the idea. I understood what the other posters were saying who the heck cares if US standard is out of 4 or 5.
All I'm saying is movies are four stars and other things are five stars. Just letting posters know that they're misusing the star rating system. I prefer the 10 point imdb scale or the four star scale. Five star scale I use for restaurants and hotels like every other normal person does. On a side note I saw the watch. Not as awful as I thought. Got a couple of laughs. I'd give it 2 stars out of 4. Or a 5 out of 10. Or 3.14 (pi) out of 5 on your misused five star scale |

I didn't really like epic that much. I'd give it 1 1/2 stars out of 4. :) |

BTW just checked my FiOS guide all shows/ movies are rated on 5 stars.

what about this itvnetop?
When the trailer dropped, I thought this will be epic or horrible. Early word is positive and I'm looking forward to the actual story. Big fan of Enos (The Killing, Big Love), too. Not sure about the zombie CGI, but it may look better in the theater. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I hope I don't have to see my movie thread get closed over this nonsense, everyone's got their own rating system with the same concepts in mind, end of discussion.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Cult, please enlighten us with your insight into the MPAA's rating system.

I heard nothing but bad reviews on Superman. I hatte comic book movies and I dont get the whole appeal outside of kids. Ill take an excellent, original story over special effects/cgi all day long.

Thats why you should check out "This is the End." Its a great flick and one of the few movies that I've laughed all the way through from beginning to end. The last movies I can think of that made me laugh like that was the 40 year old Virgin, Hangover and Super Bad. A must see in my opinion, and I'd rather see it again than see Superman for the first time (although I will see superman in theaters for its special effects) |

Im def gonna see it. My favorite movies of the last year 1. Flight 2. Zero Dark Thirty 3. Silver Linings Playblook |

My favorite movies of the last year 1. Flight 2. Zero Dark Thirty 3. Silver Linings Playblook
I've heard mixed (Superman-like reviews) for Flight: Either very good or not good at all. Silver Linings Playbook was good, nothing Great. Zero Dark Thirty I loved. So far the movies I saw this year in order of best to worst: 1. This is the End 2. Hangover III (it was better than the 2nd!) 3. Iron Man 3 (I'm like you, too many superhero movies, too predictable now. And the villian sucked. This was the worst Iron Man IMO) |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Kind of a sleeper is Last Stand with Arnold. I drank a few beers while watching it and generally enjoyed it.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Amazing they can't make a good Superman movie these days.

Silver Linings for me was all the about the message and superior acting. Lawrence shows why she is going to become the best actress on the planet shortly. De Niro is the De Niro of old and steals scenes from Cooper the entire movie. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
for the record, I will now use a 13 star review system out of respect for the original US flag.
since I have only seen one movie this year, and wanting to leave room for others, I give Star Trek 2 an 11 star rating (Delaware and Maryland abstained) |

I rarely do this, but here you go. I'm sorry for ridiculing you yesterday. I was wrong about the 4 star rating. I see that on Verizon Fios they use it and Redbox as you mentioned. I went off my most common critic forms of using the Washington Post, Local ABC 7 News with Arch Campbell, Newsday, Rollingstone, to my Cox and Comcast TV guides (major to local news & entertainment outlets, you get the idea here) thinking that since many of my entertainment outlets that use the star system out of 4, that there is no 5 star system for movies. But as you pointed out, Verizon and Red Box & Netflix, both of which I've used very seldomly, also use the 5 star system. I was wrong. My apologies again, mredskins. Back to movies |

^No we're cool mredskins
Since it is a movie thread I thought I'd ask a movie related question. Who is the best director today in terms of successful films? By successful I mean a majority of audiences and/or critics like the movie. My choice would be Christopher Nolan. The guy has yet to have a bad movie, IMO. |

Tarantinos another one, although some didn't think highly of Jackie Brown and Death Proof. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Directors: David Fincher, Wes Anderson, Paul Anderson, Guy Ritchie, Spielberg
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
^ Finchers a good one. Seven was a great flick as was social network. He also did fight club which is widely considered a great movie. I thought it was ok.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Lee Unkrich. Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. (co-director but still counts), and Toy Story 3 (which he directed by himself). Those movies are good no matter how old, smart, or anything else you are.

I personally think Tarantino is super overrated. I'd agree about someone naming David Fincher and if he keeps up the pace he's on, Ben Affleck. |
