Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects

I'd be happy if we traded for a first in 2014. Not having a first round pick two years in a row is not helpful for adding top young talent which makes a quick impact.

IMO are FO is probably thinking if we had more pressure up front are Secondary would of looked better. They will address the secondary but not as much as we think/wish.

It'd be nice to get someone from my alma mater in the 3rd or 4th round.

um I mean someone from my alma matter, the one where I graduated summa cum laude.

The more I watch Baccari Rambo, the more I want him. I know 'scouts' have said he's a 3rd rounder, but I like him so much that I think we may just take him at 51. Hell by the time the draft goes around and we see so many teams taking secondary guys he may be the best available when we pick in terms of secondary.
I'm sure it ventures into crystal ball territory but how far out can the scouts project the potential of a player? Would it be too much of a stretch to say that Skins scouts are already targeting 2014 players?

I'd love to see us gather picks for 2014 when we can afford to bolster the roster and bet set for 5-10 years.
Yeah they're not likely looking too much past 2013 at this point.

That's what I'm thinking.

How I'd rate the CBs in the draft (w/out some of those obvious guys that will go clearly before we pick)

1. Johnathan Banks
2. Jamar Taylor
3. Jordan Poyer
4. BW Webb
5. Nickell Robey
6. Leon McFadden
7. Tyrann Mathieu
8. Darius Slay
9. Robert Alford
10. Tharold Simon

Also heres the latest small school prospects list you should check out.

FWIW, I added my initial notes on these players:

1. Johnathan Banks - Great athlete, heady, plays under control.
2. Jamar Taylor - Average CB, willing tackler.
3. Jordan Poyer - Exciting player, great PR.
4. BW Webb - Looks and plays small.
5. Nickell Robey - Excellent college player but too small.
6. Leon McFadden - Talented but raw.
7. Tyrann Mathieu - Small, character issues.
8. Darius Slay - No notes.
9. Robert Alford - Great cover skills, speed.
10. Tharold Simon - Big, covers well. Poor tackler.

Here are a few more who I like:

1. Bidi Wreh-Wilson - Good cover, run support. Good hands?
2. Logan Ryan - Covers, blitzes well. Good tackler.
3. Adrian Bushell - Fast, covers, tackles. Great ST, KR/PR.

As I mentioned, those were my first notes when I started to look at them. Since then, more information has become known about some of them.

Banks apparently has marginal speed. That would be the only reason we could have a shot at drafting him. If he had run a 4.4 forty, he'd surely go in the 1st Round.

Unfortunately for him, Robert Alford has Crohn's Disease. I have no idea how that will affect his ability to play in the NFL. He's a heckuva football player, though. If the Skins were to draft him, I'd be very pleased.

Not new news, but:

Despite the negatives about him, Tyrann Matthews is a football player. He has great instincts and determination and he could be a steal for some team.

Leon McFadden only played one season at CB. He is very talented and would be a great pickup in the 5th or 6th Round, IMO.

Likewise, Adrian Bushell is an exciting, multi-talented player who might be there as late as the 6th Round. He could really help on ST while he develops.

I know this post is long, but I'm really excited about the DB's in this year's draft who I think could help the Skins.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects

According to Peter King and others not a great draft to have a high number; very few can't miss guys. Should be a strong second round draft. Another high five for our front office; it was a good year to give up a first round pick for a superstar QB.

McFadden has played in the secondary since he was a freshman. You sure you aren't thinking about JJ Wilcox who only played one year as a senior in the secondary?

I wouldn't be surprised if I'm confused. I'm an old geezer, you know.

BTW, Wilcox looks like a very good late round safety prospect.

Yeah, I'll make me safety list later. I can already tell you that Rambo and Elam are at the top.
