The press conference is going to be really interesting.
I don't hate the Thomas pick (the way GTripp does), heck I was the first one to mention him here on this board I think.

But we could do better
I guess I've always said it's never too early to admit a mistake.

It only took us 18 picks to admit Thomas was a mistake, so I guess thats promising.
I'm fine with the two WRs. I'm not sold on Moss or ARE. Plus, if we pick two maybe one will pan out. But the TE pick is just terribly confusing.
Agreed, all I can think is that the competition for a starting spot this fall just went way up. I'm confedent that with the talent of these picks in the receiving department one or more of these guys are going to step up and make some plays for us this year. Hopefully we pick defense with the rest of our picks and can find some decent talent. I would like to shore up the o line a bit more as well. Any way I am foaming at the mouth thinking about this offense taking the field!

I don't get where all the Fred Davis hate/confusion is coming from. Cooley is a baller and he has a fat contract so he isn't going anywhere. This game isn't about stats and having two quality TE will put a lot of pressure on defenses. Oh and have you seen Fred Davis play? Dude can flat out block! He'll definitely free up Cooley to work his magic.

I am shocked I'm the only one that actually likes these picks.

I don't think many people have seen Davis play, Saden. I can understand the disappointment re: need, but us west-coasters have had the ability to see what our scouts saw.

Fred Davis will help the team. He's the polar opposite of a bad pick.

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

This draft wasn't a total disaster. Fred Davis was a nice choice as a 2nd TE, and Malcolm Kelly was good value at number 51.

Devin Thomas is a draft pick thrown away...but being positive here, it's better to throw the 34th pick away than it is to throw the 21st pick away.

Also we moved up into the 4th, and that gives us another shot at a potential starter, so the front office deserves it's credit on making a great deal with Atlanta.

At the end of day one, the Redskins are no better off then when they entered it, and every other team in the NFC East is. That's the troubling part.

Uh oh. The world is coming to an end. Daseal and I are in complete agreement.

I hear ya, the guy could be a stud. The problem is that his potential is to be the next Chris Cooley...oh wait...

Did the Seahawks run a lot of two TE sets? The pressconference said open competition...why!?!?!

Im not so worried about our defense. I think we have a good defense. but now we really really need rogers and mcintosh to come back...we need carter to progress...and we still wont get much pressure with our front four...

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

I'm in love with all three of these picks.

First off, it shows that our coaches and GM aren't smoking crack and drinking the Anthony Mix Kool Aid. They recognize that we need serious weapons. They're right.

Santana Moss, as good as he is, doesn't score enough TDs. Same with ARE. Down in the red zone these guys disappear. Nevermind the fact that Moss is getting older and that without these WRs, James Thrash or Anthony Mix would be our #3 WR (horrible).

Fred Davis gives us a second TE weapon, another big body for making yards after the catch.

We got serious value out of our picks. You guys are crazy.

were definitly better...our ofense couldnt score points last year. hopefully now we can score more. and our defense was ranked 8th in the league, so we just need some consistency...

Re: The official 2008 draft discussion thread

Cooley isn't going to lose his job. The beauty of the Davis pick is it allows us to play more singleback and spread the field with fewer receivers on the field.

Except that makes no sense in light of the other draft picks.

Kelly should be a good player for us, but you have to wonder if neither Moss nor ARE is in the future plans.
