I sure don't think that the NRA is looking out for me. But Padre Pio was a fake. His "wounds" disappeared right after death in a way that would not have happened if he truly had been bleeding. I think he was a benign pious fake: he wasn't trying to put people on, he was just trying to imitate Jesus. Nonetheless there is no miracle with him. |

G1, now I just feel sorry for you. What an awful life, to be so desperate.

Science Tests Faith - YouTube
I would be happy if Padre Pio were a true stigmatist. But he wasn't. Padre Pio in fact was an example of a problem with most supposed stigmatists: they get the wounds wrong. The Romans crucified through the wrist, not the palms, since hand bones are not strong enough to hold up the body. In the Middle Ages artists began depicting the wounds in the wrong place, the palms. Thus stigmatists who have bleeding hands and palms are imitating art, not the true life Jesus. |
Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
i bet you believe in the easter bunny too.
i'm sorry you're a sucker for shams and false prophets, but if you want any traction you'll have to come up with a better argument than "because i said so". |

Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
It's only irritating because it is beyond idiotic but you continue to deny the stupidity.
Your the guy at work whose argument is "b/c that's how we always do it" - even though it is clear to everyone, but him, that he is wrong - and he is just making everyone's day a little harder b/c of his stupidity. It's that kind of irritating. |
G1, you're kidding, right? I can't take this seriously.

The act of striking into the wrist, base of palm, or actual palm had to do more with the message: pain to the subject and instilling fear in the community. |
Re: Pics For Sharing & Debating
Correct. The act of crucifying (historically) was not death by bleeding or from the nails, but more of a suffocation and literal drowning. They were tied as you said, because joints would often come dislocated and they wanted them to remain on the cross to die slowly. Some crosses were also more of a 'Y" shape to put more pressure on the lungs and make it more difficult to breathe so they'd fill with fluid. Many hanging on the cross would have a nail below or through their ankles/feet that they'd have to use to push themselves up to take a breath of air...sounds horribly painful. When pierced (like Jesus), the water that was recorded to come out was the fluid from the lungs. He was not pierced to see if he was dead, it was to make sure he was.
