What do you think of this draft.
I think he did a very good job. I would be excited by the potential of this crop of rookies. Bearing in mind that he drafted against other people who represented their teams of choice, this draft probably looks more like what the Skins could actually accomplish than the drafts that some of us have posted. And it looks to me like they might be able to accomplish a lot. I can hardly wait for the real draft. |
if Mathieu was not suspended he would be a 1st round pick. His issues are all mental as far as I am concerned
Todd McShay had him as a second round prospect without the mental issues. I am pretty sure Mike Mayock graded had him as a third/fourth round prospect just based on film. I think Kiper had him as a second round propsect, but now due to the mental issues he is at best a third round prospect. I do not think a corner like him would have been taken in the first round, due to the fact that he is not tall enough or has the right skills to play on the outside, nor is he strong enough to play safety. So he really is limited to slot corner/free lance kind of player and those type of players don't go in the first round. |
Just like Vernon Gholston, Maurice Clarett, Jamarcus Russell, etc. Their issues were all mental, too. Where are they now?
JaMarcus Russell and Clarett both had physical issues as well. Gholston was just a bust. |

Show me where that is, I just wanna see it. Kareem Jackson was a first round pick. He is barely 5'10" Kyle Wilson was a first round pick. He is barely 5'10" Leodis McKelvin was a top 15 pick. Point is size is not as big of an issue as some are making it. Mathieu is 5'8 3/4 and 186 pounds. Is he small? Sure? Could he get pushed around? Absolutely, but fact is the kid can flat out play and was a heisman finalist from the CB position. Either you can play or you can't and I think at the end of the day he will be a top 5 defensive player from this draft. |

Thought this was funny as well as make you think? |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
Is the cap projected to go up next year. Part of me likes to think that we're getting 18 million in cap space next year but seeing as how contracts are usually designed to increase against the cap throughout the life of the contract you would have players getting paid more this year then the previous year and so on, and on top of that they're probably restructuring deals with the incoming space in mind.

Maybe something small like a mil or two, but it wont be substantial. It should start getting decent gains again in 2015 and beyond when the new TV contracts start getting accounted for. |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft Prospects
ya, next year might go up maybe 2 or 3 mil, anything over that I would be very surprised.................

What do you think of this Charlie Casserly comment in the video: "To me, they (the Redskins) don't have a bona fide starter at corner or at safety."? |

Not far from the truth unfortunately. I would say we have starters, just not good ones. Depends on your view about how to interpret bona fide i guess... |

I agree 100%. We don't have a bona fide starter at either position. Casserly is smart and knows what he's talking about. Also heres the segment on Lavar and Dukes with NFLdraftscout talking redskins and tyrann mathieu Audio On Demand « CBS DC |

I just feel that, as a group, our defensive backs may not be as bad as Charlie Casserly thinks. Both DHall and Wilson have played well at CB for long stretches. At safety, I think that Meriweather and Tanard Jackson are good NFL football players. We just need to get them both on the field for a full season. Reed Doughty is just what you want as a backup safety and ST player. Getting Orakpo and (hopefully) Carriker back should help the pass rush, which, of course, should help the DB's. As someone who remembers the Over The Hill Gang that George Allen assembled, I believe that a group of smart, experienced players who play well as a unit can achieve far more than one might think when looking at the individual talent on paper. Our DB's just need to stay healthy and free from suspensions. Of course we need to add young, talented DB's in the draft, and I think we will, but the vets are still going to have to carry us in 2013. |
