I would be cool either way. To me adding him at this point will require a roster move, and I don't know what it would be. Which makes me nervous. |

I wouldn't mind Winfield, but I don't understand the FO's thinking. We've brought back Hall, signed Biggers, and we're most likely going to draft a CB or two. What's the point of bringing in Winfield? If the thinking is to bring in a guy who can start immediately, then Winfield is wasted money. I'm fine with our current CBs, just need to get a good safety or two and a CB in the draft. |

If we sign him it gives us flexibility in the draft if we can't get one of our top targeted DBs. Also it can help us possibly trade a guy like josh Wilson. Or cut DHall. Or just have a lot of talented DBs. |

Yes sir, that is huge. This way we have a better chance of drafting BPA starter talent at any position. Much better than reaching for need and increasing the chance of drafting a bust. The wildcard risk in this move is Winfield's age/health to $ cost. Like any move it is a gamble. Winfield is a player, CB position would go from below average weakness to above average strength. At Safety: Draft a safety. Tanard comes back from suspension for cheap (?), Brandon Meriweather comes back from injury (?), Jordan Bernstein and Dejon Gomes step up/mature (?), ok depth with Doughty and Pugh. With deeper CB position it increases flexibility to occasionally play DHall at safety in dime or nickle. We pay for our rookies and Winfield by reworking a Trent Williams, Garcon, Josh Wilson deal. Not by cutting. Next year our cap will have a windfall with the removal of the penalty. |

Next year our cap will have a windfall with the removal of the penalty.[/quote] Therein lies the beauty of Shanahan / Bruce. They certainly could have made a ton of magic cap room this year, simply by restructuring a ton of deals like Cerrato used to do. They still can if necessary. But at least we're not rushing to win the offseason out of the gates with seemingly unlimited cap space -- leaving restructured dead space for years to come. Takes a ton of patience to avoid doing that, reassuring everyone the sky isn't falling on the O-line or secondary, and taking guys like Trueblood and Pashos instead of the highest paid FA out there. Cerrato would have spent a couple of draft picks and $50 million dollars last year when Merriweather / Jackson went out of the picture last year. I remember when we threw away a 3rd rounder for TJ Duckett because Portis hurt his shoulder the week before the season opener, then went on to run for 132 yards -- all season.. Talk about irrational paranoia. Glad to see we have a hard-nosed front office who doesn't panic and seems to always look ahead. |
Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
IMO we have a FO that has the credentials to tell our owner relax we got this.

Re: Official Redskins Free Agency Thread 2013 Part II
That seems like way overkill for those guys. But whatever, the rich keep getting richer.
I would take the kid who won ROY over the runner up personally. Of course it would be such sweet revenge to beat the Hawks in the playoffs next year at SEA if he signed there. HAHAHAHAHA. |

He has a good likelihood of starting here. I wouldn't sweat it too much. |

Anybody know this about Pat White? He had a lawsuit against the NFL for failure to protect him from head injuries. Really? This douche bag has the nerve to sue the NFL for head injuries and he was only in the league for one damn year. Not only that, he barely played. Now, after 4 years, he's decided his head injuries are ok so he's back to trying out for the NFL again? **** this guy. |

well, he probably would start over Browner, and when theres 3 WR sets, he'd move to nickel and Browner would stay on the outside. |

NOTHING, I actually watched Dolphins preseason games that year ('09) to see him play, he was bad or at least very underwhelming compared to what he did at WVU. He looked lost, couldn't read the defense, made bad throws, and he had a little razzle in the running game but he is small and knew he wouldn't last in the NFL. The conspiracy theorists in me wonders if the Redskins will get something on the back end now that they rid the NFL of a law suit. (yeah right) BUT.... JOEREDSKIN maybe be able to (hypothetically) answer if this would set a precedent of any kind for the other cases against the NFL? |
