12 rush attempts by our backs yesterday in the rain. 51 yards

25 by Seattle ... just over 100 yards
He will run it more I’m thinking but he also trusts Sam to be a dude and he has been. BRob has been very good too. Maybe EB doesn’t think the OL is good enough to run the ball much.. idk

They aren’t and they aren’t good enough in pass pro either. Defenses don’t respect them and they stack the box. Need to have a threat of a deep ball so they back off. Will help the pass and run game.

And yet the defense lost the game. 26 (27 with the ep) should be enough to win the game. Idc how they score 27 points.
My argument to this is what did the Chargers ever win? They sure had some really good teams back then, Coryell was a great coach, but they could never close the deal.

When you have an offense like this, sure it's great for numbers and all, but you are going to have days where passing the ball isn't going work- it could be that your opponent has a great rush, weather, injuries...

There are some exceptions of course but having a pass first at all cost offense generally does not mean winning a SB.

Sam is good enough to work w/ another OC. That is the least of my worries.
Sam is clicking and id hate to introduce him to his third offense in 3 years. Hopefully a new HC will lean on EB to balance the attack.

Im not denying the fact that he shys away from the run but if we had any semblance of a defense we would probably have 7 wins right now or more and this wouldn’t be an issue.

It's hard to separate coaching issues from personnel issues. But here are a few things about Bieniemy's O this year that leave me underwhelmed:

1) our WRs are not getting separation. Even Turner could scheme guys open near every play but he was stuck with Heinicke's noodle arm.

2) the running game. I don't mind being pass heavy, or even super pass-heavy. I also don't mind using the quick game as a substitute for the run game. But our line doesn't block that well in the screen game, either. And many of our designed runs this year have been out of shotgun, which I HATE. We have a big, bruising back in BRob and a line that doesn't run block very well. So why are we running out of shotgun where the back generates less momentum and takes more time to get to the line? Our OL are already losing their blocks by then. If you're going to run out of shotgun, use more RPOs.

3) very few adjustments before halftime.

4) inability to start the right linemen for what, 7 games? Sam taking all those hits and sacks was criminal.

My hot take here is: I genuinely wonder what the O would look like if we kept Scott Turner but gave him a real QB in Howell. Turner wanted to unleash the pass game, too, and did just that in Wentz's first start against Jacksonville. Then he crashed and burned, we went to Heinicke who doesn't have an arm, and Turner resorted to what we ended up with. His other big flaw was marrying the pass game and the run game in terms of game flow, but we just straight up don't run the ball these days, anyway.

Turner lost the locker room so he had to go. But the fact EB yells a lot or whatever isn't prima facie an upgrade. Howell would make a lot of O coordinators look good.

EB will either be the HC here next season or coaching offense/HC somewhere else. I just don't see a HC coming in and not bringing someone with him that he has worked with himself. Could be wrong, but I don't see him staying at OC here.

Per Keim:

Sam Howell leads the NFL with 788 yards and six touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. He has the ninth highest QBR in the fourth quarter (and second in number of times sacked).

I don't think I'd have a problem with EB being HC, I just don't know where he'd get a staff from. And you're right, if a new HC comes in he's likely not going to keep EB. Either way Howell likely has a new OC next year.

Thank you, sir. Awaiting the day the team name gets changed again and I fork over the cash to change my user title. Until then, Commies it is.

A good QB needs a Good and consistent OC. Letting EB go could screw with Sam

Forcing a new HC to retain an old OC is a lot more risky than Howell not being able to handle learning a new offense.

Harris hires GM, GM hires HC and scouting department, HC hires coaching staff.

That has to be the only order. Otherwise, we're doing it ass-backwards Snyder style right off of the bat.
