Nice shots... I've also got Room 237 queued up (I think it's supposed to homage The Shining as Trekkies did for Star Trek).
Room 237 is so dumb it is just a collection of people's hair brain idea's of what Kuback was trying to do in the moive. Complete left field the whole movie; don't waste your time. |

Hey did you see this: A Prophet (2009) - IMDb "Un Prophete" Holy shit, really well written screenplay, can be alittle confusing sometimes with so many things going on in the end. But the suspence building sequences were probably some of the best on film ive seen. Id read about this movie a couple years ago, finally queued it and wow. Immediately in my top 5 foreign movies all time. Pick it up if you havent viewed it. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The Wolf of Wall Street was a good movie, I'm hesitant to call it great because the ending is kinda flat (although if you've read the book it basically follows the ending of the book) but other than that I enjoyed it.
Anchorman 2, well I wish I had stayed home from that. I still love the original, and I knew the previews didn't look that good but me and fam went and saw it anyways. It's disappointing. I'm sure it's really hard for directors to capture the magic that made the first movie what it was, but I suspect in a few months I'll have erased this movie from my memory. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
rush is very very good btw. even if you don't like racing. very well done.

I remember being disappointed that it lost to The Secret In Their Eyes that year... The Academy rarely delivers. Lots of cool symbolism in Un Prophete. Dug the score, too. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Ah, I meant to say Christmas Day I went to see Anchorman 2... It was very.. eh... It had its moments but the first one is definitely better.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Went to see a double feature-
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty-9/10 Got to love Ben Stiller! Different role for him! Grudge Match-8/10 Kevin Hart was a little annoying and funny at the same time. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Went to see Her and loved it. If you're a tech nerd, you'll love it. Moving and very thought provoking. Also hilarious in some parts.
Plus, who doesn't want to listen to Scarlett Johansson having an O? That made it worth it all alone. |

Watched wolf of wall street last nite - good movie but not great. Jonah Hill's character was hysterical though.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Been watching a few recent movies lately, caught Lone Survivor the other day and I thought it was good but not great. I'm sure they trimmed some good parts out but I definitely enjoyed the book more. Also just finished Twelve Years a Slave, definitely enjoyed that and highly recommend it to anyone interested in historical films.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Saw the movie Francis Ha recently, amazing amazing amazing writing.
Great movie, but damn it, it made me miss my 20s. Really great story about class, hipster generation, etc. Great dialogue. Saw Blue Jasmine too, really good typical woody allen |

Trying to watch all the oscar nominees before Sunday. Last nite was American Hustle. Thought it was much better than Wolf of Wall Street. Both movies are so spun out Lol. Tonite - 12 years a slave.

I watched American Hustle, but to be honest I didn't like it that much. I though it would be really good but I was surprisingly disappointed. I definitely enjoyed Wolf of Wall Street though, I thought it was on par with the book. 12 Years A Slave is definitely great too. |

I am imagining he plays a role similar to that in mitty and i want to check it out. kinda awkward dark comedy it took us about a week to get through the Benjamin Button movie and the first 30 mins or so were cool, unique idea but man that movie ultimately sucked. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Maleficent was legit. I went to a late show and while there were some small children, it was mostly adults in there.
Not your typical Disney movie. It IS typical in the happy ending, etc. But the action was pretty good and Angelina Jolie was masterful, as she usually is. I saw it in 3D too, but not IMAX. Probably worth the money if you saw it on IMAX, otherwise, just skip it and do the 2D version. It's now one of my favorite movies, along with Frozen, Aladdin and The Lion King. 5/5 |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Godzilla and Xmen: Days of Future Past were good. I think they did redeemed Godzilla from that monstrosity 15 years ago. Xmen I thought was a very good installment. Stay for the end of the credits to see who the next villain is going to be.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I wanted to see Godzilla because all my friends raved about it. But it looks like I might end up seeing A Million Ways to Die in the West.
I liked Ted a lot but I feel like this movie is going to be a bunch of dick and fart jokes. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Coen brothers, I have a love/not hate, but don't love, maybe I think they get too cute sometimes relationship with their films. Well just saw inside Llewyn Davis, I gotta admit, it's brilliant, but the whole time watching I was like....this isn't that great, and I don't like it. But by the end of the film you kinda get it and it's like....damn how did they do that? A serious man, Barton fink, o brother,.....and it's not all of their films that have that style to them. Just really great film

I thought it was really good, a bit long, but overall really good and definitely sets up well for the end of the trilogy. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Guardians of the Galaxy. Hands down the best movie of the year and the best movie Marvel has put out to date. It was simply incredible. You'll regret not seeing this. Even has pulled a 96% fresh rating off of RT.

Where would you rank it compared to other comic book movies? I've heard some people say it is better than the Dark Knight. |

Better than any of the other comic book movies sans The Dark Knight perhaps. Comparing the two is really hard because one is so dramatic/intense while the other one is loose and fun with incredible characters. James Gunn absolutely knocked it out of the park with the casting and characters brought to life. The theater cheered afterwards because those guys were so entertaining. I'll say this, a tree and a raccoon are my new favorite heros. Those guys fucking owned. Another bonus treat is the sound track. I'll most likely be going back for a second viewing this weekend. |

The characters were all really well cast and developed (even Vin Diesel was awesome as Groot; which is pretty amazing for a CGI character with literally one line) and the humor was probably the best part of the movie. Every time it got to a scene that would normally be cheesy or sappy, they threw in a joke or two. Effects were ridiculously good and it never seemed to lag. Definitely worth seeing in the theater. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
my expectations for this movie are starting to become unreasonably high .. which i hate bc when i go see the movie i will walk away feeling somewhat underwhelmed bc it didnt cure male pattern baldness.
you know what they say about expectations ... |

Film Industry Has Worst Summer Since 1997
Or at least if they have, it isn't in a theater. Ticket sales to movie theaters in the U.S. and Canada are expected to sink to about $3.9 billion, a 15 percent decline when compared to summer of 2013, according to box office company Rentrak. In July, box office sales were down 30 percent, the New York Times reports. For the first time in 13 years, no summer film netted $300 million in ticket sales domestically. Not even Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy," the highly-anticipated superhero film that led this summer's box office sales, could save the summer. And as Vox notes, a dry summer is an especially hefty hit. Summer is when the film industry banks on people heading to theaters, typically producing the greatest months of ticket sales.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Watched Lawless on Netflix last night. Very good movie, I think it was one of Shia Lebouf's last big roles before he started giving the finger to big box office movies. It was about the Bondurant brothers running moonshine during the prohibition era in SW VA. If anybody's looking for a good movie to kill time on Netflix check it out.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I've seen some real crap lately, but picked up "Killer Joe" from a couple years ago staring mcconaughey surrounded by an outstanding cast and wow really amazing movie. Killer script.

Watching the new Godzilla movie was equal to watching the Skins on primetime, it was horrific. Terrible everything, except the Godzilla yell, that was and is still awesome
