Fury
Great movie.
I saw very little "Hollywood bullshit".
Kinda gory.
Definitely a movie for guys who like movies.

Despite my first impression of John Wick not being that good, it's getting really good reviews, both online and from my 2 coworkers who saw it last night. Definitely got me reconsidering whether I'm gonna watch it or not.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Saw, "Interstellar" this past weekend and gotta say I was impressed.

I read many mixed reviews, and don't get me wrong- this movie is not without its flaws. From a pure cinematic experience; the score, visual effects, ambition, this movie really provides a great experience.

There is some annoying cheese in the plot, and the overall story is a bit thin, however I really enjoyed any attempt to tie in a genuine sci-fi film that takes a stab at theoretical space travel.

Eiter way, it's worth the price of admission and if you're into astrophysics at all you wont be disappointed.

St. Vincent - worth it for Bill Murray's performance.

omg...i had no clue this movie was being made. a new MAD MAX movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Tom Hardy is the lead! I just found this out at lunch and Im effing going crazy. Mad Max movies were my favorite growing up, wow this trailer looks bad ass.

2 things...not a remake, new story and the original writer/director George Miller too? This is going to be freakin great.

Big Hero 6 was good. So, so good. If you've got kids (or just enjoy a good ol fashioned Disney action movie), definitely go see it.

Hmmm, not sure if you're into horror but I loved The Babadook. Great little gem from Australia. Oh and The Drop (pre-Mad Max Tom Hardy and James Gandolfini) was fantastic. I didn't like Gone Girl as much as others. Hearing mixed things about Interstellar, but I really want to see Birdman, Fury, John Wick, Whiplash and Nightcrawler.

Have you seen anything worth recommending?

Lol we are on the same wavelength, u stole my list. Yes looking forward to the babadook, heard great things. Have u seen Tusk? Kevin smith fan here, and heard it's bad. Real bad

Phillip Seymour Hoffman performance in A Most Wanted Man, highly recommended. I think that's the movie of the summer, in kinda a weak summer line up.

Two Faces of January, that's one high on th list for me, thinking its early January dvd release.

Yes, agreed on PSH- Most Wanted was excellent. Very Tinker, Tailor. I've also got Two Faces on my watch list- Oscar Isaac is great.

Just saw Nightcrawler- Jake G. absolutely owns it.

Haven't seen Tusk, but Horns is supposed to be really good.

Yup. Watched it like 10 times in a row. That's what the 3 previous films lacked...thought they were terrible.

Ive watched this about a dozen times. Even from such a small trailer it feels like the old school movies in a way the prequels never came close to. So excited for this.

American Sniper is amazing

Chico23231 01-26-2015 09:14 AM

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

American Sniper is meh...I dont know, bradley cooper is just not a dramatic actor. sometimes it look like he was trying to hold in a laugh while trying to be serious.

Once I realized the film plot device was going to be a rival most likely fictional sniper called mustafa, i thought hey this could help the movie..but it just made it more predictable.

an ok movie.

plus i was surrouded in the theatre by a bunch of cigerrette smelling tea partiers...ugh

That Guy 01-26-2015 11:43 AM

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

yeah, sniper isn't bad, but it's not really much different than the other 40 iraq movies. I'd recommend zero dark thirty or generation kill (series) instead.

interstellar was decent, though definitely not a must see.

Chico23231 02-19-2015 10:27 PM

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

The drop with gandolfini and Tom hardy...wow. Hardy outshines gandolfini in his last on screen performance but still damn impressive. Reminded me a bit of gone girl on character development and which way the story gets u leaning before the twist. Great movie

Chico23231 03-03-2015 09:48 AM

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Whiplash...brillant. JK Simmons was cast in a perfect role.

I feel like outside of indie movies, there are no good major films in theaters right now. I wanted to go to the movies so bad last weekend but I've heard so-so reviews about The Lazarus Effect, I heard Hot Tub Time Machine 2 was a waste and I just could not drag myself to see that POS Will Smith movie.

Is there going to be any blockbusters coming out soon?

or it'll be leaked 3 months early and be seen as a CGI crapfest. I'm hoping not, but so far it's all just random CGI and harrison ford looking like he's 80. either way, expectations are going to be so high that it'll be hard to lvie up to.

Abrams did a good job when he rebooted Star Trek, I think he'll be fine with Star Wars.

I've read the Abrams has dialed down the CGI (for example the little droid is actually a prop, not CGI. But then again, I don't the whole hate for CGI; we have technology, it is much better now than let's say early 2000s.
