Re: Taylor Reports to OTAs

Obligatory PFT post:

TAYLOR NOT PUSHING FOR NEW CONTRACT, YET

A league source tells us that the decision of Redskins safety Sean Taylor to skip the first week of offseason practices (known as Organized Team Activities) and to show up for the second week of workouts is unrelated to his contract, or any lack of satisfaction therewith.

Though Taylor was unhappy with his contract not long after it was signed nearly three years ago, he is confident (we're told) that the deal will be renegotiated at the appropriate time.

There is some thought that a new deal could come after the 2007 season.

Taylor was the fifth overall pick in the 2004 draft. In the past, he has spent most of the offseason in Miami. The team was under the impression that he would show up for the first week of OTA's, and some players reportedly concluded that his absence was related to unhappiness with his contract.

I watched the live interview with ST on Redskin.com, he was actually well spoken. Said the contract was not or has never been an issue. It would be dealt with when they time came, I was impressed.

Went further to say he had a seven year deal with the Skins and everyone was real excited to be back and ready to get to work. He was glad to be back with the guys, maybe the young buck is growing up. It sure was nice to see him on the field. I get the feeling he will not be any problem or distraction at all, more of a good team mate that want's to get us where we want to go. ALL THE WAY!

I'm just glad he is there. Maybe he decided that he likes th idea of there being a new defensive system in place for him. More likely, Rosenhaus told him it will be harder to get a fat new contract for a guy that doesn't do anymore than the bare minimum at practices.

The fact is that Taylor will deserve a huge contract if he can prove that he has matured and becomes a leader at Redskin's park as well as on the field. Sean being there is good for everyone, especially him.

I'm glad you've also noticed this. Taylor has come a longway from his thuggin days in Miami. I'm not sure if yall saw him on the probowl special when he participated in the obstacle course but he was interacting with all the other players and seemed to be having fun which is far from how he was when he entered the league. He has matured alot and there is no doubt in my mind he in Landry are gonna be boys before long. Another thing that I think has been ignored is Drew. I guarantee he was called during this "holdout" and told a contract was imminent and to get Sean's ass to camp and had no problem doing just that. I love the fact that the baddest agent on the planet is boys with Dannyboy and from what I have seen a Redskin at heart.

not to rehash the entire thread, but someone was agreeing on Taylor holding out because of a contract issue, and your post was " yeah, what he said". thats why you made the list. it was all in good fun.
Who cares? Joe Gibbs.

Everyone who said that it won't be an issue, you are right, because Taylor will have a new deal in place before the season starts (mark my words).

Whoever thinks that he has no leverage and that he should honor the contract that he signed, welcome to the year 2007.
I'm not letting you off the hook on this one Grim.

Re: Taylor Reports to OTAs

I just watched the short interview with Taylor at Redskins.com and would make the following points:

1. Taylor now seems comfortable talking with the media. Heretofore I felt I hardly knew him at all.

2. Despite what he said in the interview he can't be happy with his contract.

3. Someone has wised him up to the fact that the way to Snyder's wallet is to put on the public face of Mr. Redskins team player. We're all a happy family.

4. All the above indicate that Taylor is quite intelligent and also capable of reigning in the urge to "keep it real". HT: Dave Chapelle

Re: Taylor Reports to OTAs

I love how PFT posts a story about how its "sources" tell them that Taylor isn't upset with his contract a mere 2 hours or so after Redskins.com posted the interview with ST. They always post stories after some other news outlet has broken the story and then post a story in which they say that they are basing their claims on their "sources."

PS - I have major inside sources....(whispering) I subscribe to ESPN Insider and troll through SI.com every day.

The one thing that people were failing to pick up on during his interview that wasn't in the video, but in the article by Gary Fitzgerald, was when Sean Taylor said "Every year I'm trying to show up here more and more," "It helps the team. The last couple of years I've been kind of busy with certain issues. I finally have those in the past and I'm working on getting ahead."
There has obviously been something else holding him back from the beginning of OTA's that is probably of a personal matter and nobody elses damn business. He is here, working out, not disgruntled and very much more mature than most are giving him credit for. He is not pretending to not be worried about his friggin contract. He is legitimately not concerned with his contract at all.

You guys are much better in this area of the forums that I mostly read up here but I did want to add that ST will be a beast this year with the help of Landry.

Those two guys will make NFL mothers cry. period
