I'm concerned about his injury history. I think if he were to sign for a more modest price that allowed us to sign another veteran receiver as well, it might be better.

on the surface, it looks like injuries could be a problem with him. but i'm not sure. his rookie season he was hurt, he was relatively healthy the next 2, then last year he had a high angle sprain which bothered him all season- he got hurt in the first game, missed a bunch after that, came back and played great for 4 games, then reaggravated it. james thrash had the same injury in week 11, missed the next 4 games, came back and reaggravated it during dallas week 17 and missed the wild card game. same exact thing as hackett, and we know how hard thrash works to stay in shape.

look, hackett might be great in per game production, but the fact that he misses a lot of games can't be overlooked either.

i think we're still looking at roy williams and 85, and hackett may be the fall back option. getting either one of those guys without destroying our draft picks is going to be hard though.

This is a really good post (and welcome to the board).

It's tough to separate the guys who are actually injury prone vs the ones who simply had rotten luck. This was the first time Hackett has missed significant number of games in a season. In years past, he's just missed a couple each season. Maybe he's not super durable, but he doesn't really strike me as the Ken Griffey Jr. of the NFL either.

According to the Washington Times (The Washington Times, America's Newspaper), Hackett is visiting on Wednesday.

JLC confirms the same info on D.J. making a visit to Washington:

Seahawks WR to Visit Redskins

This just in from the Jasons:
Free agent wide receiver D.J. Hackett is scheduled to arrive in the Washington area on Wednesday to meet with the Redskins.
While the Redskins are usually quite active in free agency, Hackett will be the first free agent to visit with the team since the period opened Feb. 29.
"We'll take a look and see if there's something that can work there," said Vinny Cerrato, Washington's executive vice president of football operations. "It's got to work for both sides, so we'll see what happens."
At 6 feet 2 and 208 pounds, Hackett, 26, could provide a big target for quarterback Jason Campbell. Hackett has played for the Seattle Seahawks since entering the league in 2004, and new Redskins coach Jim Zorn previously worked as the Seahawks' quarterbacks coach.
"We've said we'll look at any player who can help us improve as a team," Cerrato said. "Whether it's free agency, trades or the draft, we're going to do everything we can to get better."
Limited to only six games last season because of a high-ankle sprain, Hackett had 32 receptions for 384 yards (a 12.0-yard average) and three touchdowns in the regular season. He played a key role in the Seahawks' 35-14 victory over the Redskins in the first round of the NFC playoffs, catching six passes for 101 yards and one touchdown.
He has best season in 2006, setting personal marks with 45 catches for 610 yards (a 13.6-yard average) and four touchdowns. In his career, Hackett has 105 receptions for 1,394 yards (a 13.3-yard average) and nine touchdowns.
Hackett's agent has been talking with other teams, but has no other visits planned at this time.

I say sign him to a prove it deal like the Patriots do. First year low numbers then a Roster bonus due if he performs well. If not Oh well it was just a one year signing with a minimal cap hit in the next year. If it does work out we got a receiver who can play to complement Moss and ARE.

Why do people think that free agents are going to take a bs deal like that? He's out to get the most he possibly can from whomever will give it to him.

Where is this Anthony Mix nonsense coming from? Does he come up big in Madden or something? Are we talking about the same Mix who has 3 catches in 3 years in the NFL? The same guy who had 288 yards receiving his Senior years and 294 yards his Junior year? Is this what we've come to around here?

Good point...I don't think we have what it takes to convince a player to take a one year deal....I mean the Patriots can do that b/c they are contender...and b/c Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Hoody can convince them to do so. I hope they are able to sign him to a good deal.

Sure. The Skins are totally in a position to dictate the terms to the guy. (note heavy sarcasm). The Pats get to say "come here and play for a Championship NOW." The Skins say "Please come here, we have a new and unproven coach but we think we might be able to pull a wild-card berth."

Ok. Buddy, you're right we can't dictate terms at all. I have a few questions. does Hackett have a Job? Has he got what he wants to date? Where else has he visited? Thank you.
