Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I don't really see alot into this. It happens on every team at some point during the season.

Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Really? Name all 32 times this happened last season....

Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
Good!
Sellers is a terrible lead blocker. He's too inconsistent and blocks the wrong person too often. We need to dump him and leave portis as the single back... |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
here's an update from J. Reid. This echoes what I've said in my earlier posts, although I'll certainly acknowledge that Reid is likely basing his opinion on what he can get from only a few unamed sources.

Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I had heard yesterday that Portis called up to the booth during the Tampa game and requested that Sellers be taken out because he wouldn't block for him. I didn't post it because at the time I couldn't find anything to verify it. Portis may have some points but as usual he handles things completely wrong. In the game where we gave the ball to Portis on 4th and goal, it looked to me like if he had went inside instead of out we would have scored. Doc Walker said the same thing. Is Portis passing the blame? I don't know, but in typical Portis fashion he appears to be creating controversy again. I have never seen a RB fall down with little or no contact as much as he does.
Portis is one of the best blocking backs I've ever seen and gives it his all during games. But as Sherman Smith said, his first few carries in a game are like practice because he doesn't practice during the week. He may not be a cancer, but he could certainly have done things better while he was here and been more of a team player instead of such a prima donna. I think the blocking schemes, as Sammy has pointed out, have been a problem. But if Portis can't stay on his feet, I'm not sure how much it matters. BTW- I LIKE that someone got in Portis's face.
I may be wrong, but wasn't it about this time last year Portis kinda called out the OLine. And after that everyone kinda got on the same page? It seems like this is one of our silly little dysfunctions that every family has... |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
You know what's worst that Portis trying to bench Sellers? Players on the team spilling beans to Jason Reid, about how they don't like Portis. Way to REALLY F-up the team's image.

REid didn't say he talked to players did he? His last post said "league sources" which might be code for players, since these guys don't want to be outed, or it could be a locker room attendant. I know what you're saying, but I don't know how I feel about players talking in such cases. You can say that it's "splling beans" airing dirty laundry, etc., but if you're worried about this "team's image" at present I'm wondering if you aren't the Danny himself! It's a bit late to worry about this team's image. It's screwed until further notice! There's certainly times when no one should talk, but sometimes guys speaking to the press might be a last resort for them to change things. If you really feel someone is screwing up an organization, yet the powers that be do nothing about it, the press is always there to listen. I'm certainly glad as a fan to find out some but not all of this stuff. |

Is the front office off limits? I am not on this sight everyday. I can understand your fragile egos can not take criticism, humor is a great coping mechanism, I will back off the FO so you guys do not get upset. |

Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
so when guys don't do their job, no one is allowed to bitch? i don't know where you work, but at my place of employment, when someone isn't pulling their weight, there is all kinds of bitching going on. and i know there are lots of Sellers fans here, but big time over rated
Zorn needs to switch things up this week, he needs to have Mitchell and Aldridge active and see what they can do. I would have Betts and Thomas no active for the game. His job is on the line, with the hiring of Sherman Lewis it is set up for Synder to fire Zorn and make Blache the interiem head coach and make lewis the playcaller.
Instead I would deactivate Rock and have Thomas return kicks. That way Thomas can still work as the 5th WR. We need all the options we can take there. |

You knwo what happens when players get new contracts.... |
Re: Sources Confirm Portis-Sellers Incident
I wouldn't say Portis is a team cancer at all...I would say though that he reportedly doesn't really speak to any of his teammates but Moss. He basically just keeps to himself. He's not a team leader but I don't know about team cancer.
Well just this week Doc Walker was commenting on how last week CP was on the side lines trying to get players fired up. When they made good playes he was giving them high five and when JC through an int. he was encouraging him not to get down on himself. This is what Doc observed and not second hand news. These thing happen in a locker room but I just have a hard time with CP going to the coaches and asking them to pull a player. I have only herd CP say positive stuff about Sellers. To me it seems that Sellers play has dropped of some sense he signed that new deal. |
