Yeah, gotta wonder if enough people will change their minds

Re: Brian Cushing Suspended 4 Games
You mean all of this is fake? Now that AP has stripped him of Rookie of the Year honors does that mean Brian Orakpo is a front runner for the award?
So it looks like they're going to re-vote...but wouldn't it be something if Cushing still won anyway
It would be even funnier to see Cushing having to give it away to his former teammate. |

Re: Brian Cushing Suspended 4 Games
Cushing may still end up getting the ROY award AP has reported that he is still getting votes and the winner may not change. Stephen McClain has already said he voted for him the second time around, but he's a Houston reporter so we'll see.
One thing I would say is that he tested positive in September for HCG, a druge typically used to come off of steroids indicating he may have been closing out a steroid regiment. This would indicate that he would then have played the duration of the season not on steroids but was able to increase his on-field performance during that time. This is a little different than the Merriman situation where he was caught taking an actual anabolic steroid with traces of said steroid in his system. He certainly cheated but his playing ability over that time should have (based on the fall off seen with other players who have stopped using these drugs) dropped off significantly but it did not. I think writers will look at that fact and seriously consider giving this guy the award again. I am from Bergen County NJ and he was a prodigy coming up for Bergen Catholic, he was undersized but his work with the DeFranco people over that time helped him immensely although the rumors of his use as early as the summer going into his Junior year were widespread. His work ethic is unquestionable and his diet and training methods are tailored specifically for size gains. I've been to the DeFranco gym and these people are serious about what they do and their training methods though nonconventional work extremely well. You may not actually see the fall off with Cushing that we saw with other guys and the only reason I say that is because the groundwork has been done for him. He's used, probably more than once, he trains constantly and he will more than likely be able to keep much of what he has on his frame right now. From an injury standpoint it may be more difficult to predict because injuries are more random but he could just as easily turn to something like growth hormone to pick up the slack and we would never know. |
Re: Brian Cushing Suspended 4 Games
SI is reporting that Cushing still won the DROY award with 18 votes. Byrd got 10.
Arakpo received 3 votes. Got to wonder what the AP voters were thinking...it's fine to roid up, as long as your good. Shameful if you ask me, sends an awful message.\ Link: Brian Cushing wins revote, keeps defensive rookie award - NFL - SI.com |

Really? Cushing is the rookie of the year. "It means a lot. Just the fact that people would stick by me and stay honest with me. Very, very excited and just honored. I really am," he told KRIV-TV. Thats funny considering that you weren't honest yourself. In fact the only reason your a pro is because you kept juicing up. It's alright though pretty soon you'll be injured and in 5 years you'll be bankrupt.
Cushing's test was positive for elevated levels of hCG, the source familiar with the case told Schefter. HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) is a banned substance that is widely used to stimulate the body's testosterone production after an athlete uses anabolic steroids.
Totally different from the Williams case. Williams used a weight loss supplement thats banned more to protect the players then it is to insure fair competition (think Kory Stringer). Steroids give cheaters an unfair advantage. And please Mr. McClian
"In good conscience, I couldn't not vote for him after voting for Julius Peppers in 2002 knowing he'd tested positive [and won the same award], and for Kevin Williams on the All-Pro team knowing he'd tested positive [in the StarCaps case]."
Really, so in order to justify the first mistake you repeat that same mistake? Maybe you should be tested or better yet taken off the committee along with the 17 other idiots. |
Re: Brian Cushing Suspended 4 Games
Total BS. I mean if after the award has already been given out to the player then I think it's hard to get it back and do a revote. But when the award has not been handed out and this info comes to light then the powers that be should have said "he cheated. We don't reward cheating." and simply given the award to the person who was second on the original voting.
The worse part is it seems they knew about it from almost the beginning of the season when he took his piss test. It was at that point the league should have said "Cushing is out of the running. Can't tell you why but exclude him from the voting process." All this does is show that if you can't do it on your own cheating is ok in order to get rewarded. and the idiots who revoted and picked him are just as bad. I know I'm kinda being biased cause I thought Orakpo was second or runner up to the award but simply put ...you cheat and it's ok and you still get rewarded. Screw everyone else who didn't cheat and worked just as hard or harder. |
Re: Brian Cushing Suspended 4 Games
Two time rookie of the year...sounds kind of odd. What's more odd is that the appeals process is such that even though he tested positive in September he was able to even play the whole year to even qualify for the ROY

I thought Orakpo was the runner up during the first vote. I didn't think it was far off, in other words it was a close race between Orakpo and Cushing. Now I keep hearing how he was a clear winner the first time and now instead of handing it to the runner up of the original voting system your going to have a second vote and now Orakpo only gets 3 votes? WTF? |

I don't think he was the runner up the first time. In fact all he got was 2 votes, this time he got 3 |

Agreed. At some point when he tested positive for something banned the league should have had his name taken out of contention. Appeals or not all that should garner is whether he plays or has to sit games out. It's a risk one takes when popping vitamins, pill, drugs etc. Mr. Cushing.... if you have nothing to mask, then why were you taking a masking drug? I mean if there is nothing to hide then why take a drug that hides results? |
