Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Great trade for the Redskins. We get a young and talented tackle that has played on the left side for probably a fourth round pick and get another pick back next season. Good pickup now just jettison Mr. Haynesworth for another future pick.

Hell yes! It looks like we might have a real OL this year! And a Pro Bowl OT for such a cheap price!

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Every year we get all excited about our off season moves and we get let down every year. For some odd reason this year just feels like we really have something going on here. McNabb, Carriker and now Brown we've finally made some real moves for the team and not for jersey sales.

Because the likely return on these investments is the equivalent of buying stock from Microsoft on the IPO or Apple right before the I-Pod came out. |

Yeah, McNabb and Brown is a much improved haul from the days where we used to get one year rentals on bad players for the same price. Maybe by next regime, we'll start getting picks for our players!
Why wait until the next regime? Send Lazy-Ass Albert for a 3rd rounder and can of PBR... |
Yes!!! Our offense will be a threat for the first time in years!
Hardly. That just means we have one solid veteran and the superstar rook as starters. Our depth is horrid at offensive line. Except for Trent and now Jamaal, our line is a bunch of scrubs. |

Really? I think we have to much depth right now. Rabach is a solid center, same with Dockery at LG. At RG we could easily get another solid starter in Artis Hicks, or possibly a huge return on BMW. Personally I think that BMW can be on par with Leonard Davis, but that's just me. Either way worst case scenario you have Artis Hicks as your starting RG. As for the depth. This is my favorite part of the line, no longer will we have to rely on D'Anthony Batiste or Will 'Danger Jason Campbell' Robinson. Let's look at the contenders. Kory Lichtensteiger - A fourth round pick by Shanahan two years ago that was cut because he didn't fit Denver's new Power Blocking scheme. It's not uncommon to find starting Centers in rounds 3-5. He'll eventually replace Rabach. Selvish Capers - Projected as high as the second round. Has all the physical tools to succeed in a zone blocking scheme, and now he'll most likely have a little more time to develop. Some of Shanahan's best lineman have come from the 7th round of the draft. Eric Cook - Love his size. Played Center, Guard, and LT in college. Again Shanahan has found guys that can play up front in the 7th round before. I wouldn't expect him to play this year but wouldn't be scared if he was forced into duty. Artis Hicks - Solid veteran that can play Guard or Tackle. Chad Rinehart - Apparently started to show promise last year before he got injured. It'll be interesting to see how he plays this year. He's certainly got the athleticism Shanahan likes seeing how he played LT last year. At the same time he could easily get cut but thats because more then anything we're deep at OL this year. Edwin Williams - Might be the Taylor Jacobs of the offensive line in that he was considered great in practice. However at the same time he did earn praise last year and could easily make the final roster Stephon Heyer - I'm not to high on him anymore especially with our situation at Tackle now but the fact of the matter is he has played well in the past and he does have starting experience. If that isn't depth I don't what is. Either way the offensive line is fixed from a talent standpoint. Now the only things left is to see how fast everyone can gel. I wish Buge's got a chance to coach this line, God knows he deserved a group like this. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Bruce Allen on Brown:
Redskins Acquire Brown In Trade With Saints “We are pleased to add another proven NFL competitor to our team,” Redskins executive vice president/general manager Bruce Allen said in a press release. The move comes as a mild surprise. The Redskins completed off-season work last Thursday and the starting five of rookie Trent Williams, Derrick Dockery, Casey Rabach, Mike Williams and Artis Hicks were praised for the work ethic and togetherness. Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Thursday that he felt he had a "good group," but he did acknowledge concerns with depth. Brown, a five-year veteran, is a starting-caliber left tackle--he earned Pro Bowl honors at the position in 2006 and 2008. He has also played right tackle in his career. The trade certainly gives the Redskins some flexibility on the offensive line. For example, Brown’s experience at left tackle could allow Shanahan to shift Trent Williams to right tackle--the position he played three years at Oklahoma--and move Hicks inside to right guard. Or Williams could stay at left tackle and Brown could be inserted at right tackle. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
It is good to finally have a FO that is resourceful in getting talent and has a plan. Good job!

Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
Can you picture BA at a Flea Market:
I will give you $10 for that bracelet, next year, and you will have to give me $1 back. Unless of course I really like my other bracelet, that has nothing to do with this one, then I will pay you $8 and you will owe me $3. |
Re: Report: Redskins Have Traded for Jammal Brown
I love it too. No more Heyer. Ideally, Shanny can now find a TD or Orlandis Gary in somewhere. If we cound trade AH for a DB I'd feel pretty good. Even a nickel back.
