Oh what a difference a year makes.
Crusty, what a true and simple statement!! Can you believe from last year to this year what a change.... I am with the majority here.... I want to keep KC, unless we get a crazy offer. I don't think anyone would do a Ditka trade, but a least a first rounder plus. Other than that, just don't think it is worth it to us for the most important position on the field. Remember, we hold the aces.... What a great spot to be in. Hail to BA, MS!! Great homework guys! |
Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
This is nuts!
Last year we had no QB, now we could very well have TWO with great potential. Forget about unloading Cousins, unless you get the same thing you gave up to get RGIII. He is one injury away from being the #1, and we have already exercised that scenario this year. I would much rather have a young capable guy like Cousins, prepared to come in and play like he did on Sunday, than almost any other option... AT LEAST, until we have shored up the other side of the ball, so in the event RGIII does go down, our defense can keep us in some games. |
Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
The Jets will be tied to just about any available QB all offseason.
They seem to be handcuffed with Sanchez right now though. They're going to have a tough time cap wise next year. As it turns out, the draft selections of both Griffin III and Cousins have turned out to be the best of this past draft due to the impact both rookie quarterbacks have had this season. I stated in an earlier post that if we trade Cousins to to the Jets, it should be for a 2nd rounder and D'brickashaw Ferguson but forget that. I like your idea of trading Cousins for 1st rounder and a future 1st rounder. He could turn out to be worth that much or even more. |
Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
A first round pick would be great, but there isn't a chance in hell it happens. He was picked in the fourth round. We'd be lucky to get better than a fourth round pick; possibly a third. Yes, through our burgundy and gold glasses he's the next Tom Brady, but for everyone else he's a guy who has played one good game and who no one else wanted through three and a half rounds of drafting. If you have a first round pick and you need a quarterback, you're going to draft a first round QB, not trade the pick for a 4th round QB.

Not necessarily so. A quarterback's stock can increase no matter what round he was drafted. Those scouts and GMs who have seen film of Cousins play are wishing that they had selected him before he fell to the 4th round. Mind you, Kirk Cousins was projected to be a 2nd round pick. Cousins has outshined the Ryan Tannehills and the Brandon Weedens, QBs who were taken in the 1st round of the draft. Neither of them have been nominated for any awards this season but Cousins has been nominated for 2 awards in back to back weeks and because of that his stock has increased. Charley Casserly said the other day that right now in this moment in time that Cousins is worth at the very least a 2nd round pick. |
Yeah, this is what's it's all about. Stability at the most position on the field. I don't think we've been this stable at the quarterback position since Doug Williams was the starter and Mark Rypien was backing him up. bottom damn line, Kirk Cousins is a solid back up. I'd be worried as hell if Rex Grossman was RG3's back up.
Ok Greedy :) I say we keep KC and trade our 2013 draft for A. Rogers , then we would have 3 qb's !!! LOL . If somehow Vinny gets hired as GM somewhere ,he might give us 2 1st rounders :)

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
Hmmmm. Good points. But even if he is worth a second rounder, we can only seal a second round pick if there is competition between multiple teams to grab him. We don't stand in a strong negotiating position; that he's a back-up fourth round pick weakens our stance regardless of what he's worth (there's a lot more variables in a trade than the player's value; player value doesn't always translate to trade value). On the other hand, he has a fourth round contract, which makes him more appealing (of course, if his stock rises that much, he'd be crazy not to ask for a new contract and\or demand a trade, both of which would lower his trade value).
You can make whatever excuses you want. When Rex was first hired, I predicted this career trajectory for him - initial success and flame out. (Seriously, I was spot on with this one, look it up ... it doesn't happen often). Rex's motivational style is great initially but wears thin fast.
Also, the yes/no question pose could also have the answer "Yes" with the basis being "Yes, I am the great Rex Ryan and I can make anything work b/c I am the most brilliant motivator in the history of coaching." Rex's hubris caused him to believe he could make Sanchez into a QB and successfully incorporate Tebow into the offense. Ooops. Ultimately, he's a clown coach and always will be. He's got Shanahan's ego but not his acumen. With all that said, I give you that Tannenbaum is a clown GM and bears more responsibility than I initially implied. From everything I have read, however, Tannenbaum and Rex were in this together with Rex providing the impetus. Maybe I am wrong about Ryan, but I see nothing to dissuade me from the opinion I originally held of him. Rex has his fans who love his "in your face" style. I am not one of them - I think he is and always will be the clown coach seed that did not fall far from the thug coach tree his dad was.
I am not a fan of Rex nor his father, but his father coached the Bears to a Superbowl (no offense to Mike Ditka) and as much as I hated him for the "bodybag game" and his years in Philly he was a pretty good coach. Rex has not had a losing season as a head coach yet (may happen this year). The bottom line is that there are a number of coaches in the league who cannot stake that claim, but will keep their jobs this year. He has a winning record over 4 seasons even if he loses out. To fire him would continue the culture of the "win now" mentality that has plagued both the Redskins and the league over the past two decades. It takes a long time and a lot of work to create a masterpiece; why fans need to see coaching turnover every 2-5 years is beyond me. Until he truly loses a season badly I cannot see anyone trying to justify a coaching change. |

Since its a rookie contract, the new CBA governs a lot of what he could ask for. I could be wrong, but I dont think they can be offered extensions until year 3 and even those dont do away with year 4. Any new deal would be an extension starting with pay for year 5. This new rookie pay scale makes the value of tradable rookies go up imo. You have them at a good contract for 4 years with an option to pay up and guarantee a year 5. If Cousins is traded in the offseason after year 3, then he still has a cheap contract for one year and a 1 year option at high dollars before you have to sign him to a large guaranteed contract. So 2 years to decide if hes the one you want to shell out that "cant miss" contract to. |

Even more shocked he approved that horrible contract extension for Sanchez. I would have had to say HELL NO at that. He's as good as gone come end of season, so why wait? That way the new GM could decide Rex Ryan's fate. |

Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
The way the scouts, coaches, and GM have been finding talent there is no reason to trade away our most reliable alternate to RG III. We need him to be here for at least another year.
Plus what's the rush in trying to trade a guy who could be this value able to our team. The 2012 draft class may go down as one of the best in Redskins history. We don't even know what we have in the oline talent we drafted yet. |

Oh what a difference a talented, leader-QB makes. RGIII inspired this team (including Cousins) to get where they are. |
Re: Cousins Value Skyrockets,Jets Fans Want Him!!
i dont wanna trade Cousins....
but if Revis was on the table, maybe with a draft pick with him... i dunno youd have to seriously consider taking the risk of banking on RG being healthy all season. never happen though.. KEEP COUSINS |
