Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over
I would say he is done. Guy can't stay healthy unfortunately. Farewell 1/2 Sackpo.

Yup. Haven't seen the impact out of Murphy yet that I hoped for. Now would be a great time for him to shine, it would show that we have one less problem to worry about for next year. |
Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over
I'm still amazed at how many fanboys think that Rak is our best defensive player...

What is your idea of a "modest" contract? Just curious at the numbers involved. Me, I said last year 9.5mil/yr was about all I would be willing to offer, but I overshot that by a lot. I wouldn't offer him anything over 5.5-6mil/yr to be honest. |
Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over
90% chance Orakpo is gone next year.
70% chance he signs in the NFC East. 50% chance he burns us at some point in the future. |

Who, due to injury, have missed the majority of two of the last four years? I guess 5M/year. I dunno. I was thinking 4 yrs @ 4m/yr, 8M SB or something along those lines. I have no clue if that is realistic or a vast overpayment. |

... and to be capable, he needs to show (1) an ability to cover in space; and (2) that he can keep folks from consistently doubling Kerrigan and/or Hatcher. By the end of the year, if Murphy can win some 1 on 1's as a rusher and handle the coverage duties of an OLB in a 3-4 system w/o being a liability, Rak is pretty much superfluous. |

As usual, excellent analysis by Keim:
Assessing Brian Orakpo's Washington Redskins career - ESPN
Rushing the passer is about more than sacks, and Orakpo influences the pass rush. But when you're being paid $11.45 million for one season and when you want to be paid even more, then you have to do more than set up others. You have to make game-changing plays. . . . This is a playmakers' league, and Orakpo didn't make enough plays. He played the run well and didn't have any coverage mishaps, though he dropped an easy interception versus Arizona. . . . In his first five seasons, Orakpo intercepted one pass and forced six fumbles (while recording 39.5 sacks). Some linebackers being paid the kind of money Orakpo seeks have forced the same number of turnovers in one season. . . . He was a good player. The Redskins needed him to be great.
|

I'm with you on Murphy. He's not shown it yet, and I have my doubts he ever will. I think he lacks the athletic ability to get the job done on the right side. He's better coming up the middle than on the sides. |
Re: Is Brian Orakpo career as a Redskin possibly over
Can't overpay for production, good teams would walk away. He is making superstar money on the 1 year tender. We'd have been a lot better off it that money was spent on 2 or 3 decent players. Maybe he will end up in DeAngelo Hall territory, where no one is interested in him except us.

Watch him go straight to Philly or NY, and then when Polumbus gets his job back by some miracle Rak will go ham on him, and make everyone go, "why the hell did we let him go?" I think Rak could still be an effective player, but his best shot will be with a 4-3 team. He just ain't cutting it here. |
