Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
weak year to get a TE in FA. good year to get a young safety. a few good LB and OL guys out there too.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Curl is definitely a SS, he plays in the box. Still, expecting to be paid top dollar when you don't force turnovers is not fair. He's an impact player for sure, but you gotta be elite to get paid top dollar.
I like the Ertz signing - guessing Kliff K. wants to use him as a mentor for the younger guys. Expecting him to be TE#1 at this point in his career is too much. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Throughout his career Ertz has been able to convert First Downs at an exceptional rate. The Commanders brain trust must think he can continue to do that as a role player.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
Waste of time signing Ertz. Injury plagued and past his prime. Seems like Kingsberry and Peters are throwing him a bone.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
This has got to depress Kam Curls market you would think....
Adam Schefter Safeties recently added to the free agent market: 🏈Justin Simmons 🏈Jordan Poyer 🏈Jamal Adams 🏈Kevin Byard 🏈Quandre Diggs 🏈Rayshawn Jenkins 🏈Eddie Jackson
|

Absolutely. He's probably not even top 5 on that list. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I see 2 possibilities; they see one or 2 FA's that they like better than Curl, or they see him coming back on a lesser deal than he thought he'd get in earlier negotiations/on the open market. Either one is fine by me, though there is teh 'devil you know' aspect to re-signing him.

I think OT would be a solid pick up. Watched him alot in college. Dude can play. |

(Curl is a solid tackler but nothing special)
exactly, there is no one really worth saving |

Throughout his career until 2019. Since then he has missed an average of 8 games a year. Missed 10 last year. Dude is toast. You want to bring him here to help with his knowledge of the offense make him a TE coach and save the roster spot. It isn’t a huge deal, but I really don’t think the guy brings anything to the table. |
Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I wonder, given the number of teams with cap issues and the amount of cap space we have whether the FO is thinking about leveraging the cap space this year to get extra draft picks by effectively trading the cap space, it had been done before.

Re: Commanders 2024 Free Agency Thread
I think they'll use this year to fill some holes with short term deals, draft the QB of the future, and start rebuilding the roster through the draft. I don't think they'll trade cap space (didn't know that was a thing), or make a ton of big splashes in FA.
If they hit on the QB, are competitive in the division, and improve the facilities, this will be a more desirable destination for players next year. |

We have the money to find out if he is toast or he can play a role in our offense. This is a no risk scenario. If he's done, then cut him. If he sticks, we'll have a veteran influence in the TE room. |

Josh Allen, for example, is a 26 year old Pro Bowl Edge. Pay him the money! He likes money, I assume. To me, money trumps a warmer shower room any day. Also, are you not listening to what our new GM and HC keep telling us about not rebuilding but intending to win now? I believe them, so I say let them over-spend to beat out the other teams for FA's they want. |
