Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
Yeah Gallup isn’t easing the pain of the Terry situation.
I suspect Gallup doesn’t make the team. Not hearing about any impact. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
Gallup has shown zero this offseason, no way he even makes the team. The wr dropoff after Terry is huge. Noah Brown is serviceable when healthy, but every catch is contested vs man. Deebo was sorely needed and our 2nd best option, I am glad they've been pushing him on td corner fades to develop his wr chops vs screens, etc. name another WR worthy of starting. You can't. And although Lane has some potential, he is sometimes in the wrong spot, he is a rookie, but against starters that could be a pick six. I would guess he's #4, but any separation with him is minimal. Anyone after them is replaceable. I wouldn't be surprised if they cut the rest and picked up a cut wr from another team. I am even starting to think McCafferty is at risk, he has done zero this off season, although he plays special teams well. Another hint is why are they playing kasmir allen at RB? Are they gonna keep 4 RB vs only 5WR? I mean it is possible, but probably not wise. We are really missing zacheus type. I frankly think we will get one soon. The ideal scenario is to swap Brob for a #4WR from another team to help us AND to block any chance he ends up on the cowboys.

Re: Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
Many here act like out passing game was the 2001 Rams last year with Terry. It was actually average ranking 15th in the entire NFL.
https://www.nfl.com/stats/team-stats/ Add in Tunsil, Connerly Jr., Deebo, Lane, and others there is room for improvement here that could be realized with or without Terry. To say we cannot be better without Terry when we were average last year is premature. Team sport not individual. Deebo is no slouch at all and can carry the rock unlike Terry. I cannot emphasize enough how much the new tackles will help the passing game. Again, passing game will be fine with or without Terry just better with him. AP knows this. |

It would have been much worse without the man you are under valuing. You are not going to win an argument that says our passing game will be fine with or without Terry no matter how many times you try. Lol. |

It doesn't matter now.
If Terry is so essential to our team why isn't he signed yet? Because AP knows we'll be ok with or without him. You keep thinking our passing game will suck without Terry. He's a 1,000 yd receiver. Deebo has averaged nearly this amount yearly himself. We have other dudes also. I love Terry and hope he signs but everyone on this board needs to understand he's not Jerry Rice and is replaceable and may just have to be. This is a quarterback driven league not wide receiver. |
Re: Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
With or without him lol, the passing game would drop off a lot IMO and the offense would be worse. They arent giving him what he wants because he is under contract and if he doesnt play thats his choice. The deal has much less to do with how they value him for the team vs. the position he is in/leverage he has.

I'm giving this Terry McLaurin football playing slander a 4.4 out of 10.

I am almost hoping Terry holds out for a few weeks just so that it becomes obvious he is needed to all. Lol. Wonder what the argument will be when we are 1-3 and can’t throw the ball downfield? |
Re: Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
He doesn’t have to be Jerry Rice to make a difference. He is a top 10 wr in the league, and by far our best deep ball wr. In our offense he is essential. Our passing game will SUFFER without him.

Re: Preseason Gameday Thread #2: Bengals Edition
So I got to see this game live and here are my thoughts:
* Deebo's speed is crazy * As everyone has mentioned it, BRob is done * I think our offense is going to pick up right where they left off last year * I was surprised to see Burrow play for so long and he was being harassed by our second string d-line. * Hartman needs to be cut. * This was my first post-Snyder era trip to a game and the stadium looks nice. |
Our passing game will SUFFER without him.
You don't know that. Again, our passing game was AVERAGE last year. I already you provided you the link validating this. Terry is one portion of many that make up our passing game. Oline significantly upgraded giving more time to throw for JD5. We have a new speedster rookie, a stud wr from SF, and potentially other replacements that can contribute. JD5 will move this ball through the air with or without Terry.
Look at all the great qbs who have won SBs numerous times. Many did it with different receivers. Patrick Mahomes 3x Tom Brady 7x Troy Aikman 3x Peyton Manning 2x Terry Bradshaw 4x Joe Montana 4x I could name more. Brady is the king of not only SB victories but doing with many different wrs. He actually took a paycut for greatness contrary to Terry's current song and dance. |

Are we really debating whether our offense will be better with Terry? Of course it will. Sure we have other guys, but he’s our best WR. And even if we were average last year in the passing game and picked up some new toys, it doesn’t mean we won’t benefit from him in the lineup in a significant way.
I get it if the hold in rubs you the wrong way, but it shouldn’t cloud anyone’s judgment about his value to the team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
