It definitely takes more time to shave...it takes me about 3 min to shave each side of the face. It has become an every other day ritual for me.

Well at least I'll know that when I start shaving with it. My morning routine is busy enough as it is, so I guess I'll set aside time at night to shave. At this point, anything is better for me than what I'm using, I bought an average electric trimmer that works great when you have a beard, but when you're just trying to get rid of stubble it really doesn't compare to a close shave.

I did the same, I started in early December and went until the end of January, until I finally got tired of it and just trimmed the whole thing off.

I've been rocking my beard since July. It's almost James Harden-esque now.

i have shaved maybe 3 or 4 times in the last year. i use a beard trimmer with the shortest setting and "shave" with that. no make matters worse, the hair below my jawline grows west to east as opposed to north to south. it's almost impossible to shave evenly with the contours of my jaw/neck. ingrown hairs are unavoidable.

Read about Dollar Shave Club this morning, and it looks very tempting...

I've found the Gillette Sensor 3 Disposables to work out very well for me. I shave in the shower, and one of the disposables lasts me a month at twice a week when I'm not rocking my beard. I got sick and tired of watching the blades go up in cost, and don't necessarily care to learn to shave with old-school razors. If that's your bag, more power to ya. I want shaving to be over and done with.

Looks very interesting, but I've had the Merkur 180 for about a month now and so far so good. I only shave once every 3-4 days right now, and I have to use a new blade every time I shave, but since I bought the 100 pack of blades for 6 bucks I don't have a problem with that. I can definitely see why people prefer other razors though, if I don't watch what I'm doing it's very easy to get sliced.

The crappy cartridges will get your face too.

Still better to buy a DE razor with 100 blades that will cost you from $10-20 depending on brand. A blade lasts a week, so that's about 2 years of blades for less then the cost of going out to eat once...solo.

The shaves are infinitely better too.

Yes, last with a full-time beard.

He was also the last President to get stuck in the White House bath tub. Do you really want to be in that company? :D

Growing a beard was one of the best decisions I've ever made (I haven't made many important life decisions in my 30 years on this planet).
I do have to shave under my chin/neck a little bit two or three times a week, but it takes me like 2 minutes so it's not bad.

Re: F...Shaving

Back around the holidays I got my wife some Clinique face crap that she likes, and as part of the purchase they gave me a free sample of their men's line stuff, which included a pre-shave face scrub. I tried it and that made a seriously noticeable difference in the comfort of the shave and the end result.

It sloughs off dead skin and flakes and oil deposits before you go to shave, so the blade goes across a smoother base of skin. I get fewer red bumps and infected ingrown spots as a result.

So I bought some. And now I use Clinique. So?? I'll still cut you off in traffic.

Monkeydad 04-13-2012 11:42 AM

Re: F...Shaving

^

The key is going to be what you're using to shave with after the Clinique...

A manly tool like a double-edge blade or straight razor...or a sissified plastic cartridge "razor" advertised by effeminate young men with popped collars and bathe in Axe?

Re: F...Shaving

I'm still using the Merkur 180 with the DE blades, and it works fine for me. Of course, I'm not doing it as the video suggests, because I don't like my shave to take too long, and I'm just using a cheap gel instead of investing in a brush/bowl/cream/aftershave balm, but so far so good. I'm shaving on a once or twice weekly basis now, and I can dump a blade about once a week and it works great. I think I might invest in the brush/bowl/cream/aftershave soon as well, but I'll probably use it for special occasions instead of making it a regular occurence.

Re: F...Shaving

Once or twice a week?

Don't worry, kid...everyone matures at their own pace. Don't let the boys who already have chest hair get to you. You'll catch up in your own time.

Merkurs are GREAT razors. I sold my Slant last year when I trimmed down my shaving arsenal to my 3 favorite razors, but it was a fine piece of equipment.

I've sold about 10 razors...it's fun to restore, test drive and flip them for a profit. I decided to get rid of a lot when the baby was on the way. :D

Do yourself a favor and pick up some C.O. Bigelow shave cream from Bath and Body Works...best cream you can buy and they have good sales on them. It's mentholated and makes your skin feel like ice after you rinse it off. Wakes you up and will give you a better shave than the goo in a can or cheap gel. Won't take any longer to apply either.

LOL the funny thing is, I probably have more chest hair than you. Without saying too much, let's just say I've had no problem growing body hair as opposed to facial hair. Shaving facially once or twice a week works for me because I get a decent 1/8 inch stubble going and it's usually around that point that I decide to shave.

Re: F...Shaving

Just decided to move from my signature goatee to attempting a light beard. Feels strange, but it's filling in nicely and the absence of using a razor every other day has done wonders for my skin.

I'll probably get antsy and lop it off this weekend, but we'll see. As far as electric razors go, I don't how guys do it.

Apparently, at 29, I just hit puberty. I used to have to shave 1-2 times a week. I'm having to shave about 3x a week now. This is terrible. The worst part? Still can't grow a beard because I have awkward bald spots.

I hear you, I've got a patch on the left side of my face that just doesn't grow hair, so it makes beard growing really awkward. Hence why I just let stubble grow in before I get rid of it.

Sounds like it would be a close competition. I have to trim my chest/abs/pits to avoid looking like a bear. Yet, I can't grow sideburns and don't have a single back hair.

Ah. Yeah I've got more than enough hair on my chest/stomach/arms, yet not much back hair at all. I could shave it, but I would rather leave it as is than bother with the steady upkeep.

Re: F...Shaving
Aqua Velva
Great choice actually. My wife loves the smell too, plus the Ice Blue version makes your face feel like ice...great in the summer.

My list if great AS you can buy at your local drugstore, I have used all of these:

*Pinaud Clubman (my favorite scent, wife loves it too)
*Pinaud Bay Rum
*Pinaud Special Reserve (musk scent)
*Aqua Velva Ice Blue
*Aqua Velva Musk (orange)
*Brut
*Old Spice

Actually wearing Brut today. You might think it's going to be a bad flashback to when you hit puberty and loaded up on it, but if you wear it properly and don't bathe in it, it smells great.

Pinaud also makes one called Lilac Vegetal...AVOID AT ALL COSTS. it has a horrible reputation on every shaving forum for spelling like cat urine. Someone threw a sample of it into some blades I ordered once and I can confirm, it DOES smell like cat urine, not even joking.

I really recommend the Clubman. It has an old barbershop scent and my barber and many others still use their products.

I really say, take $20 and go to CVS, Rite-Aid, Walgreens, whatever you have and get this list for a nice rotation with variety:

*Clubman
*AV Ice Blue
*AV Musk
