Have any players on the offensive side of the ball proclaimed their respect for Williams?
Anyhow, I still think there's just one small (not so small?) issue keeping Williams from getting the job. If that's resolved it's his job. It not, Schwartz is one of the better (best?) alternatives. Snyder could pick Jesus himself to coach and people would complain that he didn't hire God as his GM
I saw on an article that Sellers did. I don't know how much weight you put on that, but he did. |
Have any players on the offensive side of the ball proclaimed their respect for Williams?
I dont know if Sellers did or not,but ARE did "Starters on both offense and defense began lobbying for Williams yesterday, including wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, who won a Super Bowl with Cowher in Pittsburgh. "I want the best coach for the job, and Gregg certainly is at the top of the list, no doubt," Randle El said. "I would love to see him get it just 'cause we've gotten going with the crew that we have here. I would love to see Gregg keep it." also i dont know what scwhartz looks like,is he white or black? I'm assuming he's a white guy so he doesnt count for the rooney rule |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
Yeah but a lot of times his sources are just people who comment on situations and give their thoughts and aren't necessarily privy to any sort of true inside info.
Well I think we can assume with almost 100% certainty that none of his source are Gibbs, Cerrato and Snyder. Other than those 3 guys and maybe Pepper Rodgers anyone else is just speculating on the matter because surely The Dan is not a round tabler. I love what JLC does but he relies a bunch on these inside sources when it comes to the front office and he is very often off the mark. He is great at working the scouts, players and coaches as it applies to football and it's execution but he doesn't seem to have nearly the relationship with the real decision makers on the business side of things. When it comes to something like this I think we have to take what he says with a serious grain of salt. At the end of the day everything that Schneed points to as signs that GW won't get the job are really only signs that don't point to him getting it. None of them really jump out and say "Hey this obviously means they are not going to hire GW". They really aren't exclusionary at all. |
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
Schwartz sounds like a pretty sexy pick up. The more I read, the more I like. I'm still on the Russ Grimm bandwagon. Bring him in, make him HC, Bugel will leave, and GW and AS stay put.
Not a huge shakeup, but it's someone the D.C. people could rally behind. Man... these percocets just kicked in... my teeth no longer hurt... and I'm going to bed. Night folks. |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
But then why the interest in Bill Cowher? Maybe Bill Cowher was Plan A, and since he's not interested, GW with Schwartz and Saunders is Plan B? Maybe the Cowher thing was bad rumor?
I think you are buying into the media hype too much on this. Honestly, we all know Snyder. Every single one of us knows that if Snyder wanted Cowher so bad that either a) Bill Cowher would have been introduced today as our head coach at a salary of like 12 mil a year or b) everyone would know that Cowher turned down Snyders offer of 12 mil a year because he didn't want the job. Snyder does this. He makes it happen and he makes it happen now when he wants something. The only thing stopping him now is the Rooney Rule. I honestly think this looks like they are trying to appear like they are taking this "process" seriously. Why in the hell would Snyder ever in a million years hire a basically unknown guy who is a disciple of an heir apparent he already has? Snyder doesn't do that. He makes sexy signings not understated signings. That aint his bag baby. |

Before that Phillip Daniels said players on both side of the ball "hope it's Gregg" Williams. I think everybody player I've seen interview has strongly hinted that management listen to them this time around. |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
LOL
You know I'm kind of torn as to what I want. For salary cap reasons, we need a guy who will keep the roster intact and employ the players we have, which probably means it makes most sense to retain a lot of the existing staff. That makes GW the best choice. But then if Gibbs is involved in the decision, and is telling Danny that GW is no good, then I definitely trust Gibbs' judgment when it comes to evaluating coaches. If there's ONE thing Joe Gibbs is good at, it's surrounding himself with people who'll help him succeed. If he thinks GW is simply a good coordinator, then I am on board. Likewise, if Gibbs endorses Schwartz (or anyone else for that matter) as a good and complete leader, then I'm good with the decision, even if it means gutting the current roster and rebuilding. But if Gibbs isn't involved, and Snyder's just doing whatever the hell he wants, then I'll be upset. If Gibbs is telling him to hire GW, and he's saying nah screw that, I'll be ever so pissed.
Schneed, to add to your 1st paragraph - P. King reports that Schwartz read "Money Ball" & has a degree in economics from Georgetown. King made it sound like this is a big part of his value, as if he could help a team manage the cap or at least make prudent roster moves. If he subscribes to Billy Bean's money ball ways, he's a guy that believes in low cost high value draft picks rather than expensive free agents. Just wanted to point out the possibility that maybe Snyder is changing his approach 180 & Schwartz is a candidate for salary cap reasons. I really liked King's description of him, sounds like a good manager. |

JLC is right in saying that the players and fans would erupt in hysterics if GW isn't even given a chance to interview. I was in no way suggesting the interview process is going to exclude GW. I was merely saying that people who think Schwartz is here as a candidate to become our DC are off-base. He was here as a legit candidate for head coach. |

You're analogy would be more theologically correct if it said "didn't hire The Father as his GM". |
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
God, i love this time of year. Things are getting started a little earlier than usual. There is so much hearsay and conjecture and ppl posting like 5 times in 5 minutes if not more. U go from panicking one moment to being thrilled (and FA hasn't even started!) This is by far my favorite time of the year to be on the warpath!
|
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
It just hit me that Snyder doesn't have any idea what he's going to do. What he does know is that he likes the focus and attention being on him as THE decision maker. For that reason, I would expect this process to drag on quite a while. Even though The Redskins got bounced from the playoffs he can still keep us fixated on the team by creating a little mystery saga around this process. He's still the very much the marketing guy.

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
JLC's blog was updated this afternoon. For the first time there JLC is reporting a time frame; next week all interviews could be done, if not the week after. He says that team sources think GW will be the last interview. It all made me feel better.

I agree and people are starting to call people out like Snyder who have no idea what he is going to do.Things like "Snyder is reverting back to his old self" etc.. I think I'll stick to the parking lot until a coach is named. |

Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
I still think we're hanging onto wishful thinking here when it comes to Gregg Williams. All indications are that Schwartz is here as a candidate for the head coach job. Why hasn't GW gotten the first look? Either because Danny doesn't think he's HC material, or maybe it's a Marty Schottenheimer power struggle in which GW wants too much power, who the hell knows. Either way though, this does not look like some coy scheme to get Schwartz here as an assistant to GW.
I mean, think about it from Schwartz's perspective. Why would he jump to become an assistant here when he's already interviewed at Baltimore, is a candidate in Atlanta and Miami, and already has a great assistant job working for Jeff Fisher? There's just way too much wishful thinking going on on these boards. I'm sorry guys, it's time to face it, GW will not be the new head coach. In fact, he probably won't be a Redskin coach at all next season.
Just curious, since IYO GW won't be our next head coach. By the way I think your dead wrong. Who is OR who has the best chance of filling the job? |
Re: May the Schwartz be with you?
Peter King was on the John Riggins show talking about the skins coaching search and a good point was made. King said he did speak to Jim Schwartz and JS said he was really a little confused and asked DS..."Why are you interviewing me? My mentor and someone who has taught me everything I know about coaching is already on your staff."
This point was made before but so true. King goes on to say, he didn't think DS ever wanted to hire GW's, which based on facts, seems to be the case. |

Maybe danny never wanted or felt comfortable w/GW as coach, but he at least made an effort to work through his feelings in 4 interviews, rather than acting on instinct & not interviewing him. IN addition, by interviewing Schwartz he gets insight from an outsider on GW. There was also the possibility that he wanted Schwartz to work for GW, even if unlikely due to contract. |

Schwartz also signed a contract extension with tennesse so i dont see a reason for why this thread is not locked

I just heard the same thing 88 on Redskin radio. That the Schwartz is outta the race, although I never thought he was really in it.
He signed a contract extension with the Titans. Sorry no link available yet. |
