Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I would select Branden Albert.
He would actually fill 2 major needs for the Skins. First he could come in right away and start at Guard over Pete Kendell and that would allow Kendell to be the number 1 back-up at both guard and center. This has been something that I have heard brought up by the front office as being one of our biggest needs multiple times. I also fill that Albert is a player who will eventually find himself being moved out to tackle before his career is over. This is the type of versatility that the skins were missing last year. In the 2nd round I would take Trevor Laws (if he's available). He's a lot like Albert’s in that he can play 2 different positions DE and DT. I think the skins really value this kind of versatility. |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
dewayne is a bust and he'd want a contract that'd be worth more than what his ability merits (with picks on top). i'd be a bit miffed if that's the plan.

Why are we taking three WR's? What kind of GM are you? Your draft class consist of three wideouts, a slacker, a system QB, and some O-Lineman that will end up writing the latest "Ethan Albright Madden letter." God, one day we're going to have no O-Line and the rest of you are going to be begging the team to grab O-Lineman left and right. Of course hopefully that'll happen when I'm long gone and burried 6 feet under. I won't let you say otherwise. In all seriousness I agree with the experts in that a one-gap 3 technique shouldn't be playing NT. If he got a chance here I think he could produce a 4 or 5 sack season. C. Griffin would also have a better chance to stay healhty but then again there are a few DT's available in the second round that put up a few sacks from the what I presume to be the 3 technique so we'll see how it goes. Ironically I've started to veer less and less from the idea of adding Robertson via trade. Of course that mock draft you're referring to is what I would forsee the Redskins doing based on what Vinny Cerato has said and whos avaialbe. |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
if you think dewayne robertson was the greatest DT of all time, all you have to do is go back and and see the jets game, he got pushed around like a wimp ad didnt do anything about it and also, you can never have enough WRs

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
I'll admit, when I first saw Jordy Nelson the guy reminded me of the typical steroid injecting, macho bar guy that makes people say "never meet your heroes." Of course I also thought Steve Spagnola looked like he'd be an asshole but the guy was more then willing to not only stick up for his players but support them to.
Anyway Jordy Nelson seems to have a pretty cool personality that reminds me in some ways of Chris Cooley. With that said I am no longer opposed to drafting Jordy Nelson, well at least for today. Of course to get him we might have to take him in the 2nd as he will be probably be long gone when we pick in the 3rd. [yt]_CLchhPPidY[/yt] |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
in the 3rd great value. in the 2nd, guys with bigger impacts for us (CBs/DL) are generally better ideas.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Vinny Cerrato realy likes James Hardy. My guess is we will draft him in the second, if he is there. Also, we may move up in the second to get him.

Man, I have very little knowledge of where he will be drafted. Vinny Cerrato seems to like him and he said that he will probably go in the 2nd. |

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if you are saying Talib is no good, and basing it on this clip
Aqib Talib is very overated... he will be a bust in the NFL. Cason is not a good pick for us either. C'mon down I'll show you some tape. Same could be said for Calais Campbell, there's a reason why he's fallen out of the 1st round in real mock drafts |

Well I respect your opinion a lot, A LOT, on this matter But you're dead wrong! :) (I agree about Campbell) I've always liked Cason more than Talib. But you're not really a fan eh? Can you pull some tape of Terrell Thomas and the kid from Iowa (Godfrey?). Oh and Lavelle Hawkins too :) I gotta get down there and watch some tapes. You in Building 2 or 4? Let's do lunch |
where do u guys watch film of the players other than youtube and gooogle video?
Unfortunatly I define film as a whole game that shows the good and bad plays. As fans we really only have access to highlights and scouting reports :( I personally watch NFL Network since they give viewers the good and bad about a prospect instead of just filling your head with highlights. Of course the downside to that is they might analyze 20 or 30 players for an average of 3 minutes if that. Where as, us fans want to see analysis of guys that could go in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th.
I've never seen DRC play, but I keep hearing a lot about his cover skills and combine results. But, I have wonder if his frame will hold up in the NFL. I had posted some YouTube Senior Bowl highlights of the guy but they have since been taken down. Ironically though a recent analysis (by my BOY Mike Mayock) showed Rogers getting burned just as much as he was making plays, still not a bad player, but he might not be the great CB that people are making him out to be. Anyway looks like he could be a top-15 pick these days. |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
Cambell is huge and probably will be our pick. Its hard to pass on the physicallity of him.I am a WVU mountaineer fan and watching the games i like Jenkins, the corner out of USF.He has good size 6'0 tall and 200 lbs.,he is quick and fast, and plays very physical. He tackles good, and makes smart decisions. This may be bias, because i seen him play in person and you know that live games show the true talent.WVU has alot of speed at the wr spot and USF has beat them consistently.
|
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
James Hardy~ he has size, speed, and he got it done in college. last year only Michael Crabtree had more TD's than he did. Under the right coaching and strength conditioning he could become a TO type player. he has the size he just need the strength.
Bobbie Williams of Buthune Cookman must be picked in the later rounds!!! |
Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)
i don't think jenkins or hardy make it to our spot. hardy had some off field issues too.
i like both and think both will start either this year or next year for SOME team, but probably not ours. |

Porter's a physical CB who can play the run. I'll take Flowers over Cason, Talib and Porter any day. I can see Flowers being a slower version of Antoine Winfield who ran a 4.41 at the combine. But Talib ran a 4.44 and we all saw what K State WR Jordy Nelson did to him who ran a 4.51 |
Re: Time To Be A GM: Your 1st Round Pick Is...
Prime examples are Devin Thomas, Jordy Nelson, and Adarius Bowman. They are all big, quick, aggressive, and play-making wide outs that can develop into the " #1" WR.
Especially Devin Thomas. Here is what ESPN's Scouts Inc. had to say about in their report. Pay attention to the last sentence. Devin Thomas WR | (6'2", 217, 4.51) | MICHIGAN STATE Scouts Grade: 89 Strengths: Possesses adequate-to-good height with a sturdy build for a wide receiver. Very smooth and fluid. Displays outstanding hands. Can consistently catch over his head. Strong hands to pluck in traffic. Can snatch the ball on the run with very little wasted motion. Is a treat after the catch. Does not possess elite initial burst but he does display a second gear to run away from defenders once he gets going (see: 2nd quarter vs. Wisconsin). He is a silky-smooth runner with excellent vision and body control. Sees the entire field and shows the change-of-direction ability to make sharp cuts without losing speed. Is strong and will drag some defenders for extra yards after the catch. Was effective in the times we saw him take handoffs in the backfield and might have a future as a kick return man in the NFL. Has bulk and strength to sustain blocks when he?s in position. Also flashes a mean streak. Weaknesses: More dangerous after the catch than he is as a vertical route runner. Lacks ideal experience at the highest collegiate level. Still needs polishing as a route-runner. Rounds off many of his routes. Not crisp enough to consistently separate from tight man-to-man coverage. Needs to improve his array of release moves versus press coverage at the line of scrimmage. Takes a bit too long to reach top speed. Doesn?t always sell routes on play-action runs. Can sustain his blocks once locked on but takes some poor angles and doesn't always get in good position. Effort as a blocker is inconsistent. Overall: After proving his explosiveness and versatility by averaging 105.5 all-purpose yards at Coffeyville CC in 2005, Thomas enrolled at Michigan State. He played 10 games in his first season in East Lansing, but finished with just six receptions, 90 receiving yards and one touchdown. He broke out as a junior last season, playing in all 13 games and delivering 79 catches, eight TDs and a Big Ten-best 1,260 receiving yards for a Spartans offense that relied heavily on the run. He added 177 rushing yards on 27 carries and starred as a return man, averaging 29.1 on 39 kickoff returns. Compared to most prospects, there?s very little information to go off of when evaluating Thomas. He only played one year at the FBS level, and as an underclassman entry he was not able to compete in a post-season all-star game. His inexperience and lack of exposure naturally creates some doubt. However, the more film we study of Thomas the more impressed we are with his overall physical tools. He possesses the size, athleticism and hands of a future starter in the NFL, which is why we graded Thomas out in the second round. He will fit best in a West Coast system, where his run-after-catch ability will be maximized.
Whats up with everyones obsession with Devin Thomas, he sound like Brandon Llody II to me. Analysis Positives: NFL receiver build and long limbs. ... Gets his solid hands on the ball any way possible: reverses, bubble screens, returns. ... Quick in and out of breaks. ... Adjusts well to the ball in the air, usually snatching it with his hands. ... Quick acceleration after the catch, will rack up YAC. ... Runs solid routes, including slants inside -- and will hang onto the ball while taking the hit. ... Very willing blocker outside or in the slot on run plays, and he can eliminate the corner. ... Often lines up in the slot to take advantage of smaller nickel backs. ... Potential for a solid kick return option. ... Follows wedge, finds the lanes, gets to top speed quickly and does not go down on first contact. Negatives: Only one productive year in major college football. ... Will need to prove he's a legitimate downfield threat. ... Doesn't always make the tough deep catch that the best receivers do. ... Tries to do too much at times, dancing after the catch instead of heading upfield. ... Could sustain better when blocking larger safeties and linebackers. Didn't he run like a 5.5 in the 40, he was coming off an ankle injury, but 5.5 is pretty bad, if he dropped and we had signed hackett i would definitely take a hard look at him, just depends what the circumstances are. |

Yeah, his 40 at the combine was awful. Still, how many OTs have to run a 40 yard dash |

That's true, but don't you want your o-linemen to be able to get out in front some of the time, and you CP don't like to wait for his blockers. |

Well, I probably would pick him because of his outstanding play on an ok Pitt team, and he could be like Stephon Heyer and really improve with the tutilige of Joe Bugel. |

Because smoot and springs both had to deal with injuries. Rogers is coming off a major injury. This is springs last year under contract, and in case we cannot resign him, we would need someone to step in and fill his spot. |

Exactly. If corners aren't there(Cromartie & Jenkins), go DE Groves or HArvey. If we get a second 3rd rounders, and the corners arent there, go WR HArdy or Sweed. |
