I'd meet up with Vinny C and tell him that, while I value his friendship, he has 2 more years to prove he is worthy of the GM job. Fail at it and he will be demoted.
Jim Zorn, see #1
Tell Zorn he needs to hire an experienced OC. We tried the no experience thing with Spurrier. It doesn't work.
Demand young, first round talent at OT for next season through draft or free agency.
Same for DT.
Try to restructure Springs, Taylor, Washington. Keep them if there is any way possible until there is a suitable replacement in house. Taylor would be the top priority. Springs should split his time as a FS so that Landry can blitz (Landry is our most effective blitzer). Retaining 2 of the 3 would be a very nice luxury.
Sign Hall and lock up Rogers for a few more years. Go after another premier CB in free agency (wish list = Asomugha, Nnamdi) in case other guys on team don't re-sign.
Re-sign Evans, Montgomery, and Daniels. Philip will need to take a pay cut and can rotate into a DT position on passing downs.
Draft a LB with the third round pick.
Sign a WR experienced in Zorn's WCO, hand picked by Zorn. Tell Zorn this, along with #4, ends his excuses for the offense not making yards through the air because of "lack of execution".
Re-sign Kendall, knees and all, and make Jansen the primary backup to every OL position (except LT). Also, make Jansen compete for a starting position at center.
Sign or draft a big, bruising, tailback that can get a tough yard every time. Run him behind Sellars on short yardage.
Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

In no particular order:

OL Drafted in the first round must start. Would like LT, move Samuels to RT
Henry Ellard for WR coach.
Draft DT that can contribute in third round.
Re-sign Hall, Montgomery, Golston, Evans, Albright,
Solve kicker/punter problems
Sign free agents for depth, not starters. This is better for the cap, and we don't need starters, we need improvement from our young guys, and our injured guys to get healthy.
Draft best player available at LB, DT, and OL with remaining picks.
Be patient.

2002: Ladell betts, Ramsey, Rock Cart. both betts and ramsey are capable backups, rock is a great special teams player but nothing more.
Three of the NFL’s first-time head coaches — Mike Smith, Tony Sparano and John Harbaugh — finished the season with 10 or more victories. Only Jim Zorn, who finished the second half of the season 2-6 after a 6-2 start, did not reach the double-digit mark. The key thread in Atlanta, Miami and Baltimore was very sound decision-making in the personnel department. All three won with new quarterbacks and reshaped rosters. As for Zorn, it was the front office that selected its head coach based in large part on his ability to develop the quarterback already in place, a plan that faltered down the stretch as it became increasingly evident that Jason Campbell did not fit Zorn’s West Coast offense. It would not be a surprise, if Zorn has his way, if Colt Brennan is starting at some point next season, or if Campbell were traded rather than extended long term.
Also, you say trading our "franchise QB" doesnt improve the team... Campbell hasnt done anything to show he is a franchise QB. Jason Campbell = Trent DIlfer and nothing else. He is a guy who doesnt make many mistakes and can manage a game. Thats it. he is GREAT for a gibbs offense but the exact opposite of what we need in the WCO. Campbell might be able to improve, but he will never "fit" this system. He will never reach HIS potential in this system and the system will never reach ITS potential as long as he's the QB.

Wow, when you look at the drafts he's been involved in, it truly is frightening how poorly they've drafted this decade. While I will always root for the Redskins to win, it may not be such a bad thing to have a 2-14 or 4-12 clunker next year so Danny has to clean house and get a real football guy in there!

You've got a lot of definitive statements there. If the NFL proves one thing year after year, it's never say never.

Time will tell if JC is our franchise guy. I think you have to give him another year in this offense to really see how he fits exactly.

He showed some nice growth this year, but I guess since he didn't become the next Peyton Manning over night it's not enough for some, but for the opinion that really matters, Zorn, he liked what he saw to stick with JC another year.

for all of the Cowher guys:

ESPN - Sources: Bill Cowher won't interview for New York Jets job

"Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher, who rejected a chance to become head coach of the Browns last weekend, is not going to interview for the head coaching position of the New York Jets, according to multiple sources.

Cowher, according to a source, has been contacted by the Jets. Although he is interested in the Jets job, he told the team he would not be a candidate because he would like to bring in his own personnel director. Jets owner Woody Johnson plans to keep Mike Tannenbaum as his general manager after firing Eric Mangini as head coach Monday.

With Tannenbaum as the general manager, Cowher is willing to pass on the Jets opportunity, stay in broadcasting for another year and wait to return to coaching in 2010. "

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

Looking at the moves I would make with regards to the salary cap:

1.) Cut Jason Taylor - cut $8.5 million off the cap and no release fee.

2.) Cut Shawn Springs - cut $8.5 million off cap with only a $2.485 million release fee. Injuries are too much of a concern to pay someone $8.5 million, also this money could be used to shore up the lines and LB which is needed.

3.) Cut Marcus Washington - cut $6.5 million off cap with only $2.2 million release fee. For now we use the linebackers we have left until we can draft or get one via free agency. Injuries are a key reason for the cut.

4.) Cut Erasmus James and save $1 million on cap.

5.) Keep Jon Jansen and wait till release fee lessens in 2010 or 2011 to cut him. It will take a few years to makeover the offensive line anyway so keep him and use him till his release fee is lower and the younger offensive lineman can step in after being groomed by Bugel.

6.) Keep Randy Thomas until 2011 or 2012 - same reason as Jansen to wait until release fee effect lessens. We need to keep dead money to a manageable level.

7.) Keep Andre Carter and ARE as well until release fees are much lower. We cannot do a wholesale changes in one season due to large release fees for a lot of the players on the roster.

8.) Resign Deangelo Hall but not too a crazy contract.

9.) Keep Carlos Rogers and try to resign him next year to a not too crazy contract.

10. Keep Fred Smoot - we need 3 top corners and until we draft another these three should be kept unless some other team is willing to trade draft picks for him.

11.) Keep coaching staff intact - we need to let Zorn have at least 2 years at the helm installing his offense to see if he can suceed - I would say more like 3 years would be fair. IF it still does not work the next regime should start with a new front office and let that new GM pick the coach.

1. Mark May, T, Pittsburgh
3. Russ Grimm, G, Pittsburgh
4. Tom Flick, QB, Washington
5. Dexter Manley, DE, Oklahoma St.
6. Larry Kubin, LB, Penn St.
8. Charlie Brown, WR, South Carolina St.
9. Darryl Grant, G, Rice
10. Phil Kessel, QB, Northern Michigan
10. Allan Kennedy, T, Washington St.
11. Jerry Hill, WR, Northern Alabama
12. Clint Didier, WR, Portland St.

Hire this guy:Larry Kirksey
DenverBroncos.com – Official Website Of The Denver Broncos

He might be available since the Broncos fired Shanahan

Larry Kirksey enters his second year as the wide receivers coach for the Texans. He brings over a decade of experience to coaching wide receivers. He has coached three receivers, Jerry Rice (1,549), Jimmy Smith (862) and Terrell Owens (801), that have over 800 receptions in their career.

In his first year with the Texans, Kirksey oversaw a group that had three players top 700 receiving yards, making Houston one of just four teams to achieve that feat. The unit’s depth was tested when two-time Pro Bowl WR Andre Johnson missed seven games due to injury, but fellow receivers Kevin Walter and André Davis stepped up to fill the void. Walter set career highs in receptions, with 65, yards, with 800, and touchdowns, with four. His 65 catches led the team and he was second in receiving yards. Davis emerged as one of the best deep threats in the NFL, averaging nearly 18 yards per catch. Despite playing in just nine games, Johnson once again led the team in receiving yards, with 851, and touchdowns, with eight. Houston’s all-time leading receiver led all NFL receivers with an average of 94.6 yards per game.

Since Albert Haynesworth made the pro-bowl, per a clause in his contract, he cannot be franchised by the Titans (good move by his agent). ESPN is reporting he and the Titans are engaged in contract negotiations.

I fully expect the Titans to lucratively retain the cornerstone of their bad ass defense.

IF, I was the owner of the team....I would pick up a true GM who has experience so people on the radio and message boards would stop complaining.

Then I would make friendly with the message board owners and poll for who the fans like as HC and QB. Gotta think about the fans. Thats where the money is.

I would lower ticket prices and make the vendors pay more for their % of intake each game. Utilize advertizing in order to keep the tickets lower.

Start changing the contracts of players so that it's performance based. Yes they get the minimum but depending on how well they play depends on how big their pay check is.

^Same with the Cheerleaders. ;)

Move back to DC. Most of the fans are in VA anyway. So I would move it closer or maybe even into VA.

^ Have the new Stadium be a Dome that can be opened up for the weather. I know I would get some complaints but would you rather be in the rain getting wet or have a SB someday to sit in and enjoy like other towns?

Lastly I wouldn't meddle. Simply sit back and enjoy the game....eating a banana split in my press box. After I had wings and beer. lol.

Trample - have not started to look too much into the draft yet but my take is I hope the skins continue last years approach and focus more on the draft and trading down to acquire multiple draft picks. My take is I would rather the team build their offensive and defensive lines via the draft than trying to "buy" the high price players - we need youth and getting someone with too many years of experience - especially along the defensive end position where speed comes into play would be a risk. Plus if we stockpile multiple picks and draft many lineman a couple will probably pan out - especially if you can get them in round 2 and down. This would help the Skins inject youth on the lines which is needed and as an added bonus if the draft pick is round 2 and down it also helps immensely with the cap. As an example look at Derrick Dockery - a 3rd round pick who did the job and was not grossly overpaid for his years of service here - than Buffalo grossly overpaid for him to shore up their line.

Man,
If I ran the Redskins someone, that means I would be on the sideline. I could see me getting killed running on the field yelling at our players when they make the silliest mistakes.

I would keep Campbell as the starter and tell him that he has to earn a contact extension.

I would trade Portis (I LOVE CLINTON PORTIS) and get what we can for him now. He is staying hurt and we are not getting the production out of him. He has 2 maybe 3 years left in his legs. If I didn't trade him, I would utilize Betts a bit more. Portis needs some help, he is becoming a 18-20 carry back not a 25-30 carry back.

I would give Coach Zorn a little more time. (This was his first season!!)

I would get rid of Vinny and bring in someone else.

I could keep on going, but the wife just brought me some pork chops.

If I ran this team I'd offer Scott Pioli a boat load of money and let him have full control over football operations and I'd stay out of his way. I'd ask questions but I'd let him do things his way.

The Cleveland Browns must have read your mind.

Not after winning 3 or 4 SB's in a 10 year span.

If I ran the Redskins I would do everything in my power to hire Bill Parcells or Scott Pioli and give them total control!!

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

If I ran the Redskins I would sign Jordan Gross and Karlos Dansby in Free Agency, trade back and get hopefully and extra second but more likely another third round pick. Take Duke Robinson. Draft the best DT available with my next pick in which the list of canidates would include (Sen'Derrick Marks, Geno Atkins, and Fili Moala) then take the best Center available with my third round pick. Hopefully a guy like Alex Mack will last that long but it could also come down to prospects like Johnathan Luigs, or Max Unger.

So at the end of the offseason we would have a new RT, OG, C, DT, and OLB all of whom are capable of starting in the next year or two. In fact with my plan our offensive line could eventually look like this within the next year or two.

LT - Chris "elder Statesman" Samuals
LG - Chad Rhinehart
C - Third Rounder, possibly Alex Mack or Johnathan Luigs
RG - Duke Robinson
RT - Jordan Gross

Of course this will not happen as Vinny will probably draft a CB, WR, K, S, RB, or OLB with our first few picks.

First time I've heard of Johnathan Luigs Dirtbag, so I checked him out. Looks like an excellent prospect. Could become the first 2time Rimmington award winner. Very quick and has no problem with BIG DT's. Blocked for McFadden and Felix Jones in college. 6'4" and 313 lbs. Looks like a HOG to me!

Re: If You Ran the Redskins...

1. Get rid of Vinny

2. Upgrade Fedex. It's not so bad and shoudn't be replaced for another 10 years or so, but we need a newer, bigger, HD jumbotrons ASAP. The new Cowboys palace is going to make Fedex look like a CFL stadium by comparison.

3. Trade up (not down) to get either Andre Smith, Eugene Monroe, or Michael Oher to begin rebuilding the O-line. Also draft a LB in later rounds to eventually replace Fletcher or MW.

4. Pursue these FAs: Gross, Sproles, Ward, Jacobs. Get Ladell Betts as far away from DC as possible. We need a change of pace back to take the load off of CP.

5. Try to restructure these contracts: Jason Taylor, MW, Randle El, make an effort to resign Springs for a considerably less cap hit, but build around Rogers and DeAngelo as the CBs of the future.

6. Give Zorn and JC a FULL VOTE OF CONFIDENCE. One year, 8-8, it's not the end of the world.

Hail to the Redskins

I think we need to move back to RFK, or build a new stadium that resembles it or others like the rose bowl, with rows of bleachers. The more you upgrade the more tickets will cost and you want lower ticket prices to get the true fans back in the stadium.

Agree, but Jacobs is more of a smash mouth back like Portis, we need a speedster.

Nice idea, but not financially feasible. You need luxury boxes and club seating in multiple tiers to generate revenues in the NFL. In this bad economy, no civic government is probably going to fund a new stadium for us when Fedex is only 11 years old and not obsolete by any means.

"What are we giving up to move up?? We need to trade down to recoup picks."

I think we need to get one of the "Big 4" tackles in this draft: Oher, A. Smith from Bama, J. Smith from Baylor, or Eugene Monroe, and it's not guaranteed that any of those guys will still be available at 13.

"Agree, but Jacobs is more of a smash mouth back like Portis, we need a speedster."

CP is kind of a hybrid, he doesn't possess the elite breakaway speed he used to have, but I think he could be complemented by either a speedy gamebreaker like Sproles or a total smashmouth back like Jacobs. Either one would take the load off of him some and make our offense a little more multi-faceted. As it stands now, I'll pay for the moving service if another team will take Betts of our hands.

Well, I guess it will depend on how far we need to move up. If you're San Fran at 10, and you're set on Malcolm Jenkins and can still get him at 13, do you swap the picks plus a 2010 late round pick? (4,5, or 6) I don't know, and I don't really have a concept for how trade values like that are quantified, but I think it's important we get one of the elite O-lineman in this draft to rebuild our line much like the selection of Chris Samuels did 9 years ago.
