Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
On Beck's arm strength:
"The highlight of practice," he mused. "Hmmm. John Beck was rolling to his left and had a hell of a pass to Brandon Banks. He looks like he's getting pretty comfortable in the offense in the short couple days that he's been here. We've been saying that he does have a live arm, but it's a whole 'nother quarterback so we've gotta get used to him throwing the ball too, and work on it from there."
|
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
Looks like my boy, Beck, is starting to show. I'm liking this. And so early with the team.
It's still early, but good to see John doing as well as he is so far. Sorry, I can't post links yet, or I would have. From Redskins Confidential (Today): "QB John Beck. Continues to grow in this offense. Connected with Banks on a deep ball and dumped a nice touch pass over the top of LB Chris Draft to RB Clinton Portis for a nice gain. Beck had rolled to his left on the play. I’ll be curious to see how Beck develops; he’s also not some young kid. Maybe he could grow into a solid No. 2 some day." And Monday: "Funny how good Richard Bartel looked last week when facing off vs. Colt Brennan last week. Bartel is now the forgotten guy with John Beck around. Beck continues to show a little more each practice. He can throw from different angles, which isn’t bad. But it’s his ability to know when to throw that helps. He has a good feel for the rhythm of a play. Don’t know what this will mean, but I’ve seen things I like."
I hope Beck excels. We need a young, promisg guy as a backup and maybe future starting material. |
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
More on Beck:
Is John Beck the next big thing? In a week and a half since being traded to the Redskins, John Beck has come a long way. It would be a stretch to say that he has mastered the Shanahan offense, which is very different from what he worked with in Baltimore and Miami. But he seems to have most of the basics down, and he should see considerable action during the next two preseason games. Given his arm strength and quick delivery, there is a chance that he will look good against the third-string defenders he will be facing. And we all know what happens when an unknown quarterback shines in preseason games. Don't say that you weren't warned about the pending controversy.
|
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
I'm starting to get a little bit excited about later in the game when he gets on the field. I don't necessarily hate the idea of Grossman as the backup, but I was hesitant to let him go unchallenged as the backup. I hope Beck can play well and put some pressure on Rex to perform.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
Boy it seems after tonight's game it took everybody about 2 plays to hop off John Beck's bandwagon haha.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
What with Johnny tripping over himself 3 times, this being his first live action in over a year, and my AC unit biting the dust what more can one expect from Friday the 13th. With McNair and the Florida gunslinger doing great I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it was just bad Karma.:censored:
Not making any excuses but its only been, what, 7 days since he came on board. If he had looked like a killer with only 7 days worth of practice time then both the other guys would be in real trouble, don't you think?:food-smil |
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
common stuff was troubling him. i don't think he took a snap without falling down, or tripping. he really looked out of place

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
I believe he got his toes stepped on. Same thing happened to Kurt Warner a couple times.
Really, the guy is really behind in learning the playbook, so he should get a pass for this week. |

Yet having said that John need to step up and just grab the bull by the horns. I feel this maybe his last chance to show what he's got. I really like the guy but daggumit its time to do it or go home!:soapbox: |
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
I don't know if he's eligible for the practice squad but i think a good sign for how he's doing and how the staff views his progress/potential will be evidenced by wether or not they keep him as the 3rd QB

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Beck agreed to a two-year, $2.25 million contract extension and is now signed for a total of three years at $3.35 million. Rich Campbell of the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star says Beck signed the deal last week.
I think we got our indication that Beck is doing a good job in the eyes of the coaches. |
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
I guess Bartel is going to be auditioning for other teams against the Cards now.

We all knew that was coming. |
Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
Maybe this will give him a chance to get a job with the Cards considering all of thier troubles at QB.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
Bartel forever, bitch.

Re: Redskins Acquire QB John Beck (for CB Doug Dutch)
$3.35M over 3 years isn't a ton of money for a NFL QB. They're just locking him up just in case he continues to develop. He's plan B(eck) just in case plan G(rossman) or D(McNabb) freak out and want more money than they're willing to dish out.
