Re: Coaching Changes

First thing I thought when he got canned was that I'd love to hire him. I think he could be a real solid HC down the road. He has the experience of the last two years where he was probably a little over his head but he handled it ok. Give him some time to pull back and then I think he gets a another shot at it and is successful with it. Players clearly responded to him last year. Not sure what happened this year.

Yes. I imagine Norv was in a situation where if he didn't change the staff, they'd change him. The old "either it's your head or mine and it is not gonna be mine."

Why not? What makes him different than Keenan McCardell or Duece Staley?

Duce Staley? That's random.

Anyway, what has Green proven to show he'd be a good position coach. Just because he was a great DB doesn't make him a good coach.

Plus KM interned (essentially what Duce is doing now). They cut their teeth a bit

Speaking of Keenan, heard he might be out the door as well. And LaFleur might be reshifted within the staff.

Side note, ever since I left the worldwideleader it's been significantly tougher to get info. I might have to lean more heavily on some of my older sources

That's too bad that they are keeping LaFleur (though I am glad they'll be moving him away from the QBs). I really haven't been that impressed with him. None of our QBs have shown noticiable improvement and I felt he was mainly brought here because he was a good friend of Klye's. Does anyone have evidence to the contrary? Is there any tangible proof that LaFleur is any good as a coach?

Not really. And maybe he'll be gone as well. Who knows. I have some theories, but I'll wait to find out more first

Kinda tough to coach up the likes of Grossman. He is what he is at this point in his career.

I completely agree. He didn't have a lot to work with, but it's like he didn't even try to turn lemons into lemonade here. I just feel like LaFleur was a bit outmatched for the role.

MTK 01-06-2012 12:24 PM

Re: Coaching Changes

With Grossman and Beck I think you'd be hard pressed to find any QB coach who wouldn't be outmatched for the role. Hard to make lemonade when you don't have any lemons.

Green has great leadership skills and knows how to play the position, that's why.

So, St. Louis radio reporting that Fisher may be announced as head coach of the Rams as early as Sunday.

This possibly puts Joe Philbin toward the top of the wish list for the Dolphins. And maybe he brings Matt Flynn with him to Miami, taking them out of the RGIII/RT race I presume

The problem with Green is the same as with Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky or Joe Montana. When you are the best at your position and more physically gifted than anyone else it's nearly impossible to coach up lesser players. That's why Jason Garrett and Mike Tice, while serviceable players, are better coaches than Troy Aikman or Tony Gonzalez would ever be. IMO, a player like Vernon Dean would be better because he had to rely on technique just to be a serviceable player.

I love Green, but how do you make a statement like that. I am not disputing it, I am just asking what makes you have such a definitive opinion on him.

Re: Coaching Changes

Somewhere Green's name came up as who we should hire to coach up the DB's. Could there now be some real interest?

Could Darrell Green be Coming Back to the Redskins?

Apparently, Green became disgusted with the lackluster play and as in his words, ‘I think that I can help’.

Green recently went on to his Twitter page and stated that he would be willing to help coach the secondary after watching the season ending loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.
“I am starting to change my mind about not wanting to coach the Redskins secondary. Maybe i could help coach Shanahan bring a winner back to the Burgundy & Gold.”
Green went on to Tweet,
“There is no other way to say it! As a community ( the DMV) we desperately need our Redskins to return to glory!”
