Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
4 minutes is still a lot of time. Regardless, the game didn't come down to just one play. It rarely ever does.
If Welker catches that ball. Game over!!
If Lee Evans holds onto that pass, it's Game over and they aren't even in the Super Bowl. If Cundiff doesn't shank his kick, they might not make it in over time. If Tom Brady's mysterious fumble called back with the "tuck rule", they never beat the Oakland Raiders on route to their first game. If Vinateri misses both of those Super Bowl game winners, they would be 1-5 in the Super Bowl. Lots of ifs. |

The most awesome news.... season is over!
Let the offseason begin. |

So glad to see Brady lose......bring on the offseason!!!!

Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
Free agency should start tomorrow, that would end tampering.

They score a TD on that drive. And waste another 2 mins of the clock at least. |

And here is a shot of the Patriots locker room...

Manningham made the catch and Welker didnt...both were game changers. Those will the be plays i remember most from this game. The Welker non-catch was a flat out drop.

Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
I think this game signifies the importance of getting a franchise qb. Which is why I don't want to settle for Orton/Tannehill, or whatever pair of 2nd rate qb's is available. I mean when was the last time a team won a Super Bowl without a franchise guy at qb? Baltimore with Trent Dilfer? The NFL today is set up for elite quarterbacks to succeed, not just in the regular season but in the SB. If Luck or RG3 is that guy, than we need to go get him. No more settling for 2nd best.

Perhaps, but this isn't fact. Maybe Brady throws a pick. |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
Well if we beat teams like Buffalo and the Eagles when they were 1-4 (or whatever) maybe we're atop the division at 9-7 and in the playoffs. But what's done is done.
This about sums up how a lot of us are feeling and why Shanahan said at the end of the season that we are close. The New York Giants are Off to the Super Bowl, So What Does That Say About the Redskins? | Redskins 101 If you want to be a smart ass about it it simply means that the Redskins beat the NFC Champions twice (last season they beat the Green Bay Packers as well), but I think it means a little more than that. This wasn't like last season where the Redskins beat the Packers early on before the Aaron Rodgers machine was up and running at full capacity. No the Redskins beat the Giants twice, decisively. In the greater scheme of things it makes Rex Grossman's start of the season prediction of the Redskins winning the NFC East seem like it could have been true with a bounce here and a call there. Don't get me wrong 5-11 is a terrible record and in all honesty I shouldn't even be considering this a possibility but the Redskins were not as bad as their record. The team's two quarterbacks maybe, but not the entire team. If you compare the Giants and the Redskins you'll see strikingly similar teams. Both have excellent defenses that keep teams out of the endzone and could force timely turnovers to give their respective offenses a chance late in games. They both have an excellent tandem of running backs who compliment each other very well. The Giants have the edge at wide receiver (but just barely) and the Redskins have the edge at tight end. So where is the different between the 9-7 Giants who won the division and the 5-11 Redskins who swept the Giants? Surprise, surprise it's at quite possibly the more important position on the field, the quarterback. The Giants have Eli Manning who at times can look a little Rex-ish but can also mimic his older brother in clutch situations . And then you have the Redskins who have Rex Grossman and John Beck. I've been saying this for the past six or seven seasons now, "if the Redskins have had an honest to god franchise quarterback they'd be a threat in the NFC." That isn't to say they'd be Super Bowl bound, but I think the Giants have proven (twice now) that all you need to do is get into the playoffs and anything can happen. |
Giants beat us in '07 Steelers beat us in '08 Saints beat us in 09'
Yeah, but we beat Packers last year, and the Giants twice this year. We're one QB away from getting our next appearance (Hey Peyton, are you gonna let your little brother show you up like this?:) |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
I feel conflicted. It's hard to think of the Giants as a good team after watching them. But, in the end, they won, and they'll get the ring. Doesn't matter about anything else.

So, 'Welker makes the catch- game over' because you consider a TD from 20 yards out automatic? Gotcha |

he didnt need to twist his body all the way around. he measured the ball up, jumped turned and watched the ball come into his hands almost head level. sorry thats a drop and a catch we come to expect from Welker. |

Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
Enjoyable game tonight and for my brother-in-law's sake I am glad the Giants won. Patriots looked flat in my opinion, never found that rhythm they usually get into. Kudos to the Giants for their win.

Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
I don't believe in Kyle Orton, but I also wouldn't look at Eli Manning's career up until this year and be all "Pfft, Kyle Orton could never do that." Nor would I look at Ryan Tannehill and say he could never do that.
Right now, having Eli Manning is a pretty significant difference between the Redskins and the Giants. It wasn't always like that; in fact for most of Eli's time as Giant QB, the Redskins enjoyed QB play in the same class. Going forward, it's tough to see Eli having too many bad games against us, but his last two or three have not been all that great. |
Re: Official Super Bowl Thread
I still do not think of the Giants as a dominate Super Bowl team when you think of their record etc... Although it just shows that record and stat doesn't mean everything. The will and heart to win is HUGE.

Some of that's on Tom Brady. He threw a few balls behind receivers tonight. They had some drops but so did the Giants. Manningham had a huge ****up on a deep pass where he could have gotten his feet in bounds but failed to do so. Also dropped another pass that killed a drive. Granted Welker probably should have caught it, but this wasn't a routine catch and Welker had to twist his body to catch that or it wasn't happening. I know you guys don't want to fault Tom for anything, but the guy isn't infallible. |

Not only Eli, but also in their DL, S, WRs. I agree that he's a big part. QB play can make or break a team sometimes. |

Nah, come on. That's a tough catch and most certainly not a routine one. I'm putting that on Brady for failing to put the ball in a spot where his receiver had the best chance to make a play on it. Brady had multiple throws in the game where he didn't put the ball in the best spot. That was one of them. |

Ugh. Devin Thomas and Antrel Rolle are SB champions. :/

The problem with the we beat the Super Bowl champion logic is that this has happened even way back in 2001. That's exactly why the whole season is a better predictor than one or even two games.

The Giants didnt dominate this season, but won the games that matter. I know we dont have a lot of talent, but I would like to see some leadership from our coaching staff. Our team play unimpressive at times and did not seem to come through in big game. We also need a complete team, or at least one where one area picks up where another area doesnt play well. Yes we are in DESPERATE need for a franchise QB, but we also need our coach to figure out how to make the players win the big games, and a solid overall team. |

Pretty much their whole team is better not just Eli.. folks are crazy if they think Manning would make us a true sb team with our offense |

It means nothing and honestly it's loser talk. It's kinda embarrassing to see some Skins players on Twitter bragging they swept the Giants this year. The difference between drafting #6 and #32 says it all. |

You mean like we did with Jason Campbell? No wait...Heath Shuler? wait....you mean Patrick Ramsey. See, that's the thing, you don't know who's going to hit or who's going to miss. If you throw a ton of picks away, your team will continue to be shitty. If you keep your picks and your QB fails, your team will still be very competitive and you could do well. (49ers) |

I personally think the Giants have underperformed the past 5 years. They've had too much talent to have the records they've had. (much like the Cowboys) I thought they would be shit this year because of all their injuries and lack of FA movement in the OL/WR, but Cruz broke through big time on the WR front. I think they got healthy and hot at the right time. |

Just barely? Seriously? Nicks, Cruz, and Manningham are in an elite class compared to Moss, Gaffney, and whatever scrub we rolled out as our 3rd wideout this season (not counting Hankerson since he really only saw plenty of time in one game this season before he got hurt. Hankerson is the only one out of those three with a long term future here too. |

Our defense is better. Our run game is significantly better. Pass protection and special teams are close. And I'll take our TEs. It's really Eli and the WRs. |
