Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
A tweet about possible restructures...
Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen If #Redskins end up asking some of higher-paid plyrs to re-structure, Trent Williams could be candidate. '12 cap number is team-high $14 MM. **insert munchies joke here** |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
A few restructures here and there, and we're probably right back in the ballpark of where we were.
Anyone know our contract exposure for 2013? If I recall we limited most guarantees past 2011 so maybe they can take a $10 mil hit now and rework things over the next 12 months to account for their remaining $26 mil. |
So at this point, it's 100 percent factual that the Haynesworth signing was the worst signing in the history of football? It's no longer just opinion. I mean, that contract is bordering on being worse than not drafting Michael Jordan with the first pick in the NBA draft.

So the cheaper owners finally found a way to take some skin off of Danny and Jerry. **** it.
I'm with Matty: every time the league or the press or whoever try to stop us from spending lots of money, we find a way to do it. We have the most creative money people in the biz. We'll find a way to get ours. This is the one thing we've been consistently good at over the last decade. Wonder how the next owners meeting is going to go? |
Tk and Wilbon seem like RGIII isn't worth what we gave, wilbon went on to say "anything the skins do is a mistake "
|
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Honestly, seems like a maximum headline that in the end will have minimum effect. Between some restructures, and pushing the bulk of the hit to next year when the cap presumably will go up a bit. Not great, but BA will certainly be able to work with it I imagine.

Yeah, and they had to have known the possibility of getting pinched was there. I'm sure all they're doing is switching to plan B. |

Exactly what it is. Even more sour about it that 2 years have passed, and the douche that took all that money is a fat lazy phuck no longer playing for the B&G. This whole situation makes me f'in sick. Im gonna go fart in Goodells general direction. F'ckin czar. |

Its these creative people that, according to the CBA and NFL policy, have violated no actual law or rule, but are being basically punished for doing what they do, and doing it well. How long until our guys bail us out of the situation this year, and then another punishment comes down for some BS that was never on paper directly in relation to this situation? |

Don't waste your hate on him, he's an entertainer. Once a writer becomes a TV personality quit looking at them as a journalist. He says things that get a reaction and is paid well for it. Rule of thumb, opinions shared on any show where media is interviewing media (First Take, Around The Horn, PTI, most sports talk radio, etc) doesn't hold any weight past the commercial break. |

Another thing, when the cap numbers go up a couple mil next year, are they going to adjust what we put off until next year for inflation, or keep it as a dead percentage wise of the cap numbers as it counts against the cap this year? |

this crap by Goodell and the rest of the owners is complete and utter bullshit. It was a pact or agreement? its an uncapped year!!! There is nothing in writing!!! effing bull, I would press to get this overturned immediately, get the arbitrators together today...this is just insane. I dont care we still have whatever cap room, its the principal that there was NOTHING in writing, no written contractual agreement. effing Goodell is like Vladamir effing Putin, changing and making rules up as he goes. No one in the league should be happy with this, most of all the players |

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
So the best thing/comparison I can think of is this:
Your parents say to you "John, we're sending you to the grocery store to go get our dinner tonight, here's $40 go make dinner." Then an hour before you leave for the store they say "Scratch that John we're giving up $10 to go get dinner tonight, better start looking at the clearance and on sale items." We're going to have to get cheap FA's now, our 'dinner' may not taste as great, but at least we can eat and it could still be good depending on what you get! |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
When was that?
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Wilbon doesn't like the skins and the skins don't like Wilbon. Old news--but **** em again.
Probably the biggest dick thing about this is the timing: the DAY before FA starts. That's just to **** with us and the cowroids. But given that we knew we pissed people off by dumping the AH and DH money, I am sure we're ready for this. Not that we're Ok with it, but we've got contingencies. Atogwe and others are getting their calls, people are being asked about restructuring, clever contracts are being drawn up for our target FAs, etc. This will cost us a player or two, no doubt, which is ****ed up. But this part of the CBA was aimed at Danny and Jerry and the trap is being sprung now. Bet Danny and Jerry are getting a little tired of carrying some of the weaker franchises with their money. (Oh, and yeah: AH was the worst thing EVER. This is penance for signing that douche. Pay the fine and move on.) |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Hopefully this will be good news...
Chris Russell @Russellmania980 The @NFL doesn't say in the statement they released that the #Redskins can't appeal, which I have to think Dan/Bruce/Mike will try & do |

From Maske:
Officials of the league and the NFL Players Association agreed to the reduction in the salary cap for the two teams in deliberations over the past week, said the person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the topic. The union agreed to the resolution reluctantly, the person said. Union officials believe that neither team did anything wrong or attempted to circumvent the salary cap. But the union acquiesced to the decision because the league would have lowered the salary cap for all 32 teams if it did not. Instead, the salary cap space taken from the Redskins and Cowboys was redistributed among other NFL teams. The salary cap for next season was set at $120.6 million per team. The "officials of the league". Hmmm. Guess they're not skins or cowboys! |

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Wow, I can't believe this thread has nearly 200 posts already.
I'm sure it's been said, but I'm really miffed that there wasn't any specific rule that was broken. We lose $36M because we violated an "understanding?" Don't all deals have to be approved by the league? So the league approves these deals then drops a bomb on us for it? |

Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
This HAS to be illegal. I mean, even though Goodell rules with an iron fist, there are laws that must be followed in business practices. It just stinks of collusion to me.

I think its only up like a quarter of a million dollars from where it was last season. And from what I am gathering, the NFLPA has to agree to the salary cap before the start of each season. The OWNERS made the NFLPA agree to this under pain of a reduced salary cap for all teams, reduced by like 3-4 million per team unless they agreed to the terms for the punishment for the 4 teams, the skins, cowboys, and no 1.6 million dollar cuts for the saints and raiders, who apparently adopted the same practices the skins and cowgirls did, but not to such an extent. The other owners and Goodell were the driving force behind this. |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
My personal preference is to cut some high cost players, restructure some contracts, sign a lot of younger (cheap) players and just take the full hit this year and get it over with.
We got RGIII, and I will NOT let this kill my buzz. Hail....... |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Won't stand, a verbal warning isn't enough in the courts.
|
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Be interesting to see what the Skins official response will be....
A little bit of a downer to be sure on the eve of Free Agency. But as has been stated, I do not believe for a moment that this has taken anybody at Redskin Park by surprise and I fully expect the team to acquire what they need in FA in a plan B mode. If nothing else, over the years Dan and the team have proven to be salary Cap masters....always doing what the rest of the league said could not get done without ever falling into the always predicted salary cap....Hell. No doubt contributing to the jealousy we see and the subsequent piling on of the other owners at this time? |

I hope you're right but with the antitrust exemption the NFL enjoys a lot of rules go out the window. |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
My uninformed legal gut tells me the Redskins may be able to tie this up in an appeals court -- at least until after season. I would expect paperwork to filed with the quickness.
|
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
This is such bullshit. We are getting punished for spending money in an uncapped year. We did not break any rules. Everything about how unfair this is has already been said.
Having said that, this will probably end up being a good thing because now we won't be stupid and sign all the big name free agents and get overhyped again. We just need to hit the draft picks we do have and sign a few good free agents who aren't going to want a ton of money. |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
I hope you're right but with the antitrust exemption the NFL enjoys a lot of rules go out the window.
Yeah absolutely, but Redskins have logic on their side. This is unjustifiable. |
Re: NFL taking away Redskins cap space
Why can't this be discussed on the main board? It is relevant to football talk because our FA season for the next 2 seasons just went out the window.
