Preseason and the field already has bare spots. It's a major improvement from last year but still looks like hell. Can someone explain why on earth they can't have a normal field?

are you sure no injuries? Sounded like Shanahan just said someone was lost for the year?

Just looked at the tweets - Richard Crawford out for the year

Damn, now we're up to 3 young players who really needed the PT out for the year. First Keenan Robinson, then Phillip Thomas, and now Richard Crawford? It's not the end of the world but all three are guys who I would've liked to see play the whole year.

I really think Thompson could be a Brian Mitchell type player for us.. Play some Running Back, and be our Returner.

Yep, luckily for that depth it opens another roster spot.

Crawford going down just opened up a spot for a RB, WR or LB...or perhaps another RT that we dont have yet...but probably a PR...such as Thompson

Interesting the use today of Rex and PW rotating in and out. I think Shanny is def doing his full due diligence with PW. I get a feeling PW is not just another camp body.

Thompson was decent. PR could be his key to making the team. Id go Alfmo, Helu and Thompson as our top 3 backs.

Just heard about Crawford. Sucks to lose such young talent. Luckily, we have DHall, Wilson, Amerson, Biggers, and Minnifield. But we should definitely have our eyes out for roster cuts of DBs, especially CBs now.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but I don't believe I said he should try to replicate his performance.. Just his role..

Maybe you misunderstood.

JoeRedskin 08-24-2013 10:51 PM

Gotta say, PW showed well. More zip on the ball then I have seen. Still can't through a 20 yard out. Not the QB for this team, but maybe he puts up enough tape to get a job in NY or Buffalo.

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

Kind of late to the party cause i was busy serving drinks all day to those lucky enough to have weekends off.

Anyways, Offense looked good even with 3rd stringers. Albeit we were playing the Bills. Sad to see players lost for the season in such a meaningless game, or any game for that matter.

Things that impressed me:

Defense. Holy Hell when we have our 1st team defense in there I feel SO confident against the run. Our front 7 is just plain nasty and i love it. Secondary still gives up big plays every so often which needs to be fixed but I feel like we'll be a top 5 rush defense this year.

Rex/Pat White. I'm not excited to see them play a regular season game. However, they did give me some confidence in our 3rd string QB. It's a nice spoil when we have TWO quarterbacks capable of starting on half the other NFL teams.

Rambo. Looked good coming up with run support. Didn't see a lot of him in the open field due to work. He may pan out afterall

Like i said. Didn't see much. But i did see looked good.

Off season champs the last ~8 years. Pre season champs now. Super bowl champs can't be far off right?

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

I don't know it's hard to say much about the defense other than the 2 series Kolb played. The rest of the game was played by an un-drafted FA 3rd string QB.

Crawford I believe the team had high hopes for this year. As did alot of us, losing him isn't something we can't overcome. He was a solid special team player and serviceable as a third down CB.

As long as Helu and Morris stay healthy the 3rd guy doesn't really matter. We are set pretty well at RB if they stay healthy. On that note I really like that MS has not played AM much this preseason. Smart move.

There are definitely some bright spots on the team. We could be very good this year if we stay healthy. Even if we get the injury bug I think we have depth all around the roster. LB, RB, WR, DL, QB, TE. I am not adding in OL but I think we do have some talent there that can take become depth but have not yet.

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

So interesting that we go to the 2nd string D in the 2nd quarter. I think coaches are starting to get it to just not play these guys much at all in preseason.

Nah they jst decided to make the 2nd preseason game their key one because of the schedule

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

yeah i could see that due to Pit and Buf being the last 2 games. Bills are just not very good

Yeah quick turnaround from the Steelers game. The #1s played plenty against Pitt.

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

Yeah I can see that. Honestly last week was the closest thing we have all preseason to really get a feel for week 1. Honestly I like watching the backups in preseason because typically those are the youngsters we are all looking to catch a glimpse of greatness from.

I hope we lose to Tampa on Thursday, because teams that go 4-0 in the preseason don't tend to do good in the regular season.
I hope we lose to Tampa on Thursday, because teams that go 4-0 in the preseason don't tend to do good in the regular season.
I think that's because a lot of times coaches that go 4-0 are focused on winning, and playing their starters well past the point the other team has, just to get a winning feeling. This 4-0 (if we win) would feel different to me, because we have often been playing our 2's against the other team's 1s, 3's against 2's, etc. I think winning in pre-season, not a Spurrier type win where you plan/play as if it was a regular season game against an opponent who's just evaluating talent, can show that pure depth of a team is in good shape. That's what I think this preseason is saying about the Redskins.

Your statement did make me wonder what the actual numbers were, so without further ado, and thanks to Google smarts, here is an interesting breakdown from wiki answers
Since 1978 there have been 33 or so Super Bowl winners. 60 teams have gone undefeated in the preseason, 61 have gone winless.

Of the 60 Undefeateds:
31 made the playoffs. (52%)
7 of those lost in the Wild Card Round. (12%)
12 lost in the Divisional Round. (20%)
6 (3 and 3) lost in either the NFC/AFC Championship. (10%)
3 lost in the Super Bowl. (5%)
2 won the Super Bowl. (3.33%)

Of the 61 Winless:
8 made the playoffs. (13%)
2 of those lost in the Wild Card Round. (3.33%)
2 more lost in the Divisional Round. (3.33%)
1 lost in the NFC Championship. (1.66%)
2 more lost in the Super Bowl. (3.33%)
1 won it all. (1.66%)

Of the teams that split one way or the other I would imagine there are not many conclusions to draw based purely on record. In those 33 years there would have been approximately 977 teams.

Of those 977 teams:
About 362 made the playoffs. (37%)
18 lost in the Wild Card (7.5%)
39 lost in the Divisional Round (16%)
66 lost in the NFC/AFC Championship (6.75%)
33 lost in the Super Bowl (3.44%)
33 won the Super Bowl (3.44%)

This shows a pretty stark difference in the percentages of getting to the playoffs for undefeated versus winless teams in the preseason. Sample size of 60 or so is pretty decent for considering how drastic the changes are (50% better chance of making the playoffs if undefeated versus split record/winless and 65% less chance if winless versus split record/undefeated).
note that the 1982 Skins are the only team to go 0-4 in preseason and win the superbowl.

RedskinRat 08-25-2013 10:57 AM

I'd like to see the Skins win all the preseason games, but not at the expense of any regular season games. Start the 'Unbeatable' attitude and continue it through to the Super Bowl. Why not?

After that I wish they'd turn off the scoreboard. It's "just" a scrimmage as far as the record goes.

Re: Bills vs. Redskins Gameday Thread

I'm pretty sure our 1st's are done for the preseason. And Tampa's as well. The 4th preseason game is so useless. If I were a season ticket holder (I'm not) and the Skins had a home game for the 4th PS game, I would be ticked off having to pay full price for that ticket.
