An extra wild card also would have meant a deserving team like the Cardinals could have gotten in this year. So it can go both ways.
I say why not? 14 teams out of 32 isn't a bad ratio. I'd rather add more playoff games than regular season games.[/ Why not just let half the teams in? Or how about football on Tuesday and Wednesday nights? Or what about just removing kickoffs all together? Or why not play 18 games? Goodell seems like the kind of guy that wants to change shit just for the sake of change. Not realizing he's ruining a good thing. Leave the damn game alone. More times than not we're going to see 8-8 teams like Pittsburgh making the playoffs, rather than a 10-6 team like Arizona. |
The main change I want to see is re-seeding the playoffs based on overall record.
So then a division winner could be left out of the playoffs? Terrible idea. If they went to that format then why not just do away with the divisions? |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
Also with 7 teams making the playoffs in each conference then that would mean 6 Wild Card teams? Only one team with a bye? 6 wild card games on a weekend? Another terrible idea. Waters down an already watered down product.

Um no. Re-seed after the playoff teams are determined. |
Conf champ, one on each night
Eh idk about that because then one team will get an extra rest day |

agree, no Monday night game. But Sunday night and Saturday would be great. Also with scheduling, would like to see a Saturday SuperBowl and Id like to see them move the Thursday Night game to Friday Night. Oh and no more London games. |

So an NBA style conference seeding rather than divisional standings? I'd be ok with that as long as the divisional champs got a home game in the 1st round. Otherwise there's really not much benefit to keeping separate divisions, there could just be two conferences. |

Just like the old days in the NFL, when there were just two divisions and the division winners faced off for the championship. |

Rod Marinelli promoted to DC, Kiffen moved to assistant HC for the Cow squirts.
Just like the old days in the NFL, when there were just two divisions and the division winners faced off for the championship.
And like the NBA and MLB, for some teams the season is over far too soon. I think the NFL's 4-team divisions, with the division champ guaranteed a playoff home game, is a great way to keep most teams in the running for something important.

its hilarious...they now have had 3 offensive/defensive play callers in 3 years. i know the media crushes Synder for firing coaches, but Jerry just hires more and gives the old ones new titles. lol |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
The Cowpokes are also becoming more of a mess because they're talking about hiring Linehan as a playcaller. But they still have Callahan at OC and they won't let him interview for other jobs. What a clusterfork.

Kyle Shanahan is interviewing with the Browns.
Dream job! No QB. No RBs. Losing their best offensive lineman to FA. Josh Gordon is the only positive with that gig. Good luck, Kyle, you earned it. |

I hope that Kyle gets the job. He may ask the Browns to trade for Kirk Cousins.

We'll take that first-rounder the Colts gave them for Trent Richardson. |

Well, how about Helu/Cousins for that 1st rounder? Would we be giving up to much? I doubt it happens, but if KS does go to the browns, you could expect he would like to bring in someone he has worked with... |

It would be foolish to not trade Cousins/Helu for a first round pick. That deal won't happen because other teams aren't that dumb. |

A second rounder, maybe (I wouldn't this offseason). But a first rounder you roll the dice at least 50/50 odds on getting a good starter, instead of a backup.

I agree with this. Morris came to the pros with lots of carries in college, and with his hard-nose playing style, there's no telling how long he'll run at an elite level. And I think Gruden will use Helu more than Shanahan did, making him more valuable. |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
I've liked Helu since we drafted him. But his production is not difficult to replace. In the bigger scheme of things he's just-a-guy. If the Browns or another team will offer a sweet deal, we should be willing to swap.

The idea of Josh Gordon lining up on the opposite side of Pierre Garçon makes me drool. Those two together would make for a top 5 WR duo in the league. I can't see the browns getting rid of one of the few bright spots on their offense though. One can dream though, right? |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
So, Cousins and our 2nd for Gordon? Do you pull the trigger? For Hayden?
|
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
I do not think the Browns are going to be trading some of their best players anytime soon.

I would trade nearly any player(s) but not any of our picks. |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
No way do we trade Helu.
Depth has been a big issue for this team and RB is one of the only solid spots. |
Re: the all encompassing 'discuss all things offseason' thread sponsored by Paintrain
You can find a Running Back in the later rounds or even an undrafted free agent and still get the same production Helu has given Washington the past three seasons.

I'm going to disagree with you. You won't find many late-round or undrafted backs who can run for 640 yards with an average of 4.2 YPC in their rookie year. And it's not fair to look at Helu's career stats and base your opinion off them, as he was injured in 2012, and backed up one of the top RBs in the NFL last year. I'm sure Helu would've started in 2012 if it hadn't been for two things: his injury, and Morris taking advantage of his opportunity like he did. Helu is a solid 3rd-down back and excellent depth and, like I said earlier, will take on a bigger, more valuable role this year. |

Wouldn't the top RB he backed up last year be a rookie taken late in the draft. Its sorta contradicts your point. |

Alfred Morris was a rare find. If we were to trade Helu away and try to draft a RB late to replace him, the chances of finding another Morris would be very, very slim. |

Well I am guessing you want to leave Alfred and Terrell out of the conversation because of Shanny's influence, but I tend to think if Gore, Morris, Foster, Charles, etc. can be productive 3rd rd or later draft picks we could find someone to fill Helu's shoes. I just don't see him as one of those core untouchables like Morris, Griffin, TW, Garcon would be on offense. |

There are plenty of RBs that are late round picks that produce. Zac Stacy and Andre Ellington come to mind right now, and they were both picked in the 5th round or later. Helu simply hasn't proven enough to me to make me think he is untouchable. I look at what he has produced... it isn't much. |
