It is pretty much general hockey and you can root for hurricanes but you will have to take the beatings. I’ll start. What the fuck? You randomly choose a team and you choose one named after a natural disaster that causes billions of dollars in damage and kills hundreds of people a year? I bet your minor league team is the California Arson Started Wildfires of the west coast hockey league you sick bastard. Actually Carolina is pretty good and well coached. The met is deep they will be players for a playoff spot so you should have fun with them. |

Attending a hockey [emoji970] game is extremely fun! Especially if it is a good game with a tight score! IMHO....Absolutely Nothing beat the atmosphere at a hockey [emoji970] area when the home team scores an important goal [emoji1624] Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk |

Who is this Kuznetsov guy? He reminds of the first line center the Caps had in 2018.
Who is this Kuznetsov guy? He reminds of the first line center the Caps had in 2018.
The only thing that frustrates me about his start this year is this quote: “I’m not a shooter,” he said. "I always say one goal for four games and I’m all set: get 20 in a year, so now I’m all set for 10 games probably.” Dude - you are a top line center. You are anchoring Ovechkin and Tom Wilson who is no slouch in his own right. He needs to abandon this "20 a year" mentality. He needs to take a cue from Ovi - try to score or assist on every shift. That's what it takes to be an elite 1C. If he keeps this "well I scored, I'm good for the next 3 games" mentality he is gonna regress back to his shitty form from last year. |
Re: Stanley Caps
Oh I have no doubt he will frustrate me for large portions of the season. I also know the season is young right now and only one game has been close but it would be nice to see him get some clutch points

Book it tonight is the night. 801 on a classic Ovie from the office and then 802 on an empty net
Book it tonight is the night. 801 on a classic Ovie from the office and then 802 on an empty net
Just happy to get the dub - seems like every time Ovi is about to tie or break a record he tightens up and the team starts force feeding him even though he's always double or triple covered. Once they relax they'll be fine - they've been doing good on secondary scoring with Gustaf's hatty last game and Dowd being a 11 second baller tonight. If they keep this up the coverage will loosen up on Ovi and he'll get it - I'm sure he's anxious to get it over with but overall the goal here is to win the game. |
Re: Stanley Caps
They were definitely pressing the shots from Ovie last night. I kept telling my son they need to settle in get the lead and the ice opens up but they never lead in the game. Glad they got the dub. You ask me a month ago and I didn't think they had playoffs in them.
|
Re: Stanley Caps
That Mantha pass back to Ovi 2 games ago on that 2 on 1 was frustrating
Ovi hit the post, had 2-3 real good clean hard shots last night Caps are kinda like the Skins, flawed roster but decent pieces here and there to be competitive in the regular season with 0 hopes of a Cup/lombardi. |
Re: Stanley Caps
Do you 3 watch all of the Caps games?
I'm like that for Braves games. Probably watched 90% of all of the innings this year. I have the NBA League Pass for OKC games, but I don't watch all of those. Although I did see a game winning shot last night. Or only watching for the record? |
Re: Stanley Caps
I don't get to watch the games are blacked out in my area on espn+ but I listen to games regularly and watch the recaps.

Skins games are mandatories, no one fucks with me I get the big tv. Then its a balance of trying to slip in some Caps, some Terps bball, some other NFL games, a good college football game, terps lax, then one off things like the World Cup ... while watching family stuff and series/movies w wife Im a big movie guy. I watch a few movies a week. Normally starting at midnight or 1 am on Fri and Sat night. Alone with a good russian stout, a fire. Got to watch all 60 plus of Red Wings game last night but before that, I catch 30 mins of games here and there. I do think I watched all the Red Wings game bc of the record. Id probably channel surf w that and MNF if not. |
Re: Stanley Caps
I'm in the same boat as Sunny - I don't always have the opportunity to watch every other night but if I'm at home and I'm not busy I'll turn it on. Missed Ovi's hatty the other night and I don't wanna watch internet highlights of him tying or passing Gordie so I've been watching every night (because how many times in my life am I gonna get to watch an 800 goal scorer for DC pass Gordie Howe in the history books?
I'm under no illusions - this is the second oldest team in the NHL and they won't be competing deep into the playoffs. But they're fun to watch, and it's fun to watch Ovi keep advancing in the books. Just enjoying the ride. I used to watch a lot of the Wizards when Gil/Caron/Antawn were running the court but since it's the Bradley Beal show I find them hard to watch now. They're a mediocre team with a double-double guy in Beal, it seems they are perpetually stuck in mediocrity. |
Re: Stanley Caps
Good stuff. I'm single and no kids, so I can basically watch all the sports I can handle. But I basically only watch my teams nowadays or a really big game.
I still need to go see a NHL game live, but I can't watch on TV. I went to a SD Gulls game, a minor league team for I think the Ducks, and that was really fun. But I just can't watch hockey on TV unless it's like the 3rd period in a closeout game. |
Re: Stanley Caps
Man Caps celebrated the new year in style. What a game! Crazy fact I learned when listening to the game. Caps were 0-34-2 against Canadiens when they joined the nhl. They have been so dominant since that, they could tie the series at 84-84-17 when they play in April.

Re: Stanley Caps
Hats off to the Capitals organization for the tribute to Hamlin.
It's amazing how much Americans have the ability to unite under certain circumstances. |
Re: Stanley Caps
Sucks the Caps are limping into the outdoor stadium game, with no Ovi in a big natl TV game v Carolina.
Good thing is my Saturday night is open I guess |
Re: Stanley Caps
Caps need to think about trading anything that isn't nailed down. Their front office is making head scratching decisions too. I like Strome and I am not against the signing but why do we have Connor McMichael still at Hershey? The back log at center is absurd. They either need to trade Eller and bring McMichael to the the third line or trade McMichael.
Gustafson, Sheary, Johansson, Mantha (if someone will take him) and Lindgren (this was a seriously unnecessary luxury that cost depth on the wings or defense) End rant |

I would say tear it down but one of Ovi's contract stipulations when he resigned was that they field a competitive team that can compete for titles. Well now they maxed out their cap and have a barely competitive team. I am very unimpressed with Lavi's ability to develop young players. It would be hard to watch if Ovi wasn't chasing scoring titles (current situation notwithstanding). |
Re: Stanley Caps
I think they can be competitive and sell current pieces if done correctly. IMO the big thing is to keep a quality first line and a powerplay to keep Ovie humming. Agree with Lavi not impressed. Say last night since Vrana/Mantha trade Vrana has played 40 games (injuries and rehab) but scored 22 goals. Mantha 105 games and 22 goals. He was supposed to be our young secondary scorer. Why hasn't that happened?

Re: Stanley Caps
If hockey was always sudden death during a possible elimination game, it would be way more exciting to watch on TV.
Unless you just love hockey though, it's not enjoyable to watch on TV. Note - I've only seen hockey once live, and that was a Gulls minor league game in SD. That was super fun. For whatever reason, that sport is just way more impressive live, than it is on TV. Hurricanes going to OT to try to get to the conference finals. |

I've reached this stage of my life where I enjoy watching games on tv more than going out. You get a comfy couch, a big screen tv, your choice of food and beverage options (that don't cost 3-4 times what they do in a grocery store). You can watch every replay in high-def slow mo to figure out if it was a goal or not. You can pause it to hit the head or do whatever, fast forward through commercials, whatever. There is no 45 minute commute to get into your downtown living room to watch the game. I love the tv experience since it's come so far in the last 20 years. |

I definitely agree in general, that it's more enjoyable to watch games at home nowadays. I'm so glad I can watch our games on YouTube TV this year. If it was 500 bucks, I'd still do it, and likely still save money. But the convenience is worth just as much or more than any savings. I've just never been a hockey fan, so I don't understand it on TV. It just looks like a bunch of dudes skating randomly after the puck. I guess I don't understand it live either, but you can see the whole rink and follow the puck easier, so it seems easier to follow. |

Do you mean all hockey games? My suggestion when watching on TV is to watch the players and not the puck. If you watch the puck it looks muddled and confusing |

Watched the PWHL game between Minnesota and Boston last night. Great game. Definitely worth checking out if you are a hockey fan. Games can be found on Youtube on their channel and you can watch for free no need to pay $40 a month to watch bad football. (Yes that was a shot at you SD)

Re: Stanley Caps
I'd say skill wise it was comparable to watching an AHL or ECHL game. I go to a lot of Bears games and the passing is on par. I like hockey. I'd go an watch a pond game or a bunch of 40 year olds play if I happen to be in the area. If it isn't for you it isn't for you.

A AHL team or ECHL team would wipe those ladies up in a heart beat I just watched some as they progress through the lines you can see a major drop in speed and puck handling Actually what is interesting is girls tend to play hockey better then boys at a early age because they have more advance gross motor skills (better skaters and stick handling) but usually come Bantam (14u) when full checking comes into to play the girls are gone(USA hockey allows co-ed hockey until Midget {18u}); girls also buy into team play much quicker then boys so all girl teams pre-bantam if skilled generally are pretty darn good Then this little thing called puberty hits and well.... |
Re: Stanley Caps
Of course they would wipe them out that is just a silly comment men are bigger, stronger and faster. I was referring to puck handling and passing it looks about the same but their puck speed is slower, skating is slower.

I have to go back and find clips but just watch them try to clear the puck on the boards and get it up to the wings; plus they are not under the pressure of the speed and power of the men's game add those variables and trying to say their stick skills are the same isn't apples to apples If you want enjoy it in the bubble of what it is, awesome but its not NHL AHL nor ECHL or even JR Hockey/ Collegiate Men's hockey by any stretch. I am not trying to be sexist, I have a daughter myself and she plays 3 sports and I support her. But if I am using my free time and want to be entertained watching a sporting event it won't be the female version of that sport unless its beach volleyball. |
Re: Stanley Caps
I would agree with that in regards if I had my choice I am watching the Caps, Bears or UMD-Duluth first.
Beach volleyball? really? Can't say I have ever watched a game. |
