FedEx is no more...

@john_keim
As the @washingtonpost reported FedEx dropped its naming rights to the stadium with 2 years left on the deal. Was allowed to do based on ownership change. Initial deal was 27 years, 205 mil, so this costs approx $15 mil in revenue.

That's an interesting move on FedEx's end, I would have assumed any businesses that partners with Commanders would be happy with the new owners.

Probably just a chance for them to cut costs, like any business these days

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

Yeah I didn't consider that.. Nonetheless, I'm sure we will have no problem finding a new stadium sponsorship if the owners want one.

To be fair the players were polled last October, doubtful the Harris group had time to make significant changes. Weird that the ESPN article doesn't give a link to the list.

Thanks for adding the link. They were indeed polled early, but that makes the B ownership received even more noticeable. I am fairly confident that in the past, it would have been an F-. Also, Rivera as head coach got a C, so I don't think he was respected in the locker room as was always made out.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

I think he was respected, but he also bears responsibility for the results and most of the decisions (made, not made, or made too late). Therefore, he gets an average overall grade.

Another oddity of that report card, 30 of the 32 teams received a B or better grade for their Strength Staff, but Baltimore of all clubs received an F- (Atlanta received a D- )

That weightroom must be awkward af right now.

Yeah that survey does not reflect the direction the team is going, it's just another indictment of Daniel Snyder.

I too was a bit surprised at this move by Fed Ex. If there was ever a time to latch on to a team this would be the time and this would be the team. But who knows, maybe the new deal they strike will be even better.

I'm glad FedEx is dropping its naming rights. FedEx Field is 99% filled w/ bad memories. Be hilarious if replaced by UPS or DHL.

Damn, that's some huge news. Looks like we can go ahead and book a LT at either 36 or 40 in the 2nd round (if not both).

Maybe trading back into the first, but most of these guys are RT. Should have let Wylie go first. Moving to LG?

Move him to the bench, off the team, LG, anywhere but right tackle. He was horrendous last year.

LT options in free agency are limited, and depending on draft to fill in LT isn't the best bet so it definitely will be interesting to see what our plans are.

Dead cap hit we are paying for dumb shit Ron decisions for Oline this year:

About 14.4 million

Wasted money between Roullier, Norwell and Leno

That’s just Oline

would be nice to clear the dead cap crap this year since we have room and are rebuilding.

Yes, I’d say don’t chose to Post June 1st it and spread the dead money. Take the entire hit now this year

Saw it coming, but it sucks how things ended for him. He would have been a good weapon for us if it weren't for injuries.

Will Wylie survive?

They didn't need the money, so cutting Leno before they have a viable alternative is interesting

Well, obviously the unofficial tampering period is well underway. I'm not surprised. They must feel pretty confident they will have a replacement for him soon.

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

Thomas was a nice story. Pretty tough to change positions. He made it a while in the NFL but his time is probably up.

Gates and Leno are not surprises at all. I'm surprised they didn't cut Wylie too. Eat the money this year. while you can. You're not paying a QB and the cap went up.

I like what Peters is doing so far. They're evaluating these players, they're seeing how bad they are and moving on.

sdskinsfan2001 03-01-2024 07:48 PM

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

Lol at the Nick Gates and Wylie signings. Rivera was an atrocious "GM".

AnonEmouse 03-01-2024 07:50 PM

Re: 2024 Commanders Off-Season Thread

Can't quite explain exactly why, but this would make it a surprise if they got rid of Howell.
Is there a good vet option that would happily come in knowing we have no OL?

And it makes me think there's a trade of picks coming, maybe QB at #2 then trade back up to grab LT in rd 1? Or there's a vet LT they've got their eyes on, if not talking to already, they're confident they can land.
