Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
there's no hate for cgi here. look at winter soldier, best cgi/effects in a movie, maybe ever, because it blended in. unlike say transformers, where they threw particle effects into the camera every 15 seconds to let you know about how much they paid for their renderfarm. effects should support the story, not be the story.
abrams did well with trek (Except for the lens flares in every frame of every scene). |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I saw fury road today. The action is impressive and is on an absolute grand scale, but don't expect anything other than a simple plot with limited dialog.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Fury road was amazing. Absolute master piece. The world and cinematography were beautiful. Hands down one of the best action films of the past decade. Hell, even Rotten Tomatoes has given it a 98% rating. No CGI bullshit, real scenery and action. Can't beat it.

I stayed away from 3D after reading some feedback on a few cinephile forums... the biggest complaint was that it was way too bright. But yeah... see this ASAP. I'll probably check it out again at some point. |

I liked the first two thirds... kinda meh towards the end. For some reason, I thought the robot was Daenerys (from GOT) while watching most of the film haha. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw mad max. if you told me the whole movie was basically a post-apocalyptic car chase where they drive down a road for the first half of the movie, then turn around and spend the the second half driving back down the road they just came from .. i would say "worst movie ever" .. but it was pretty damn good.
the directing, editing, cinematography were excellent and deserved nominations and awards ... but i dont think it should have been nominated as a best movie. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The reverent is a damn good movie. Dicaprio and tom hardy are both really good. I think u could have edited out about 15minutes..little long. cinematography is great with the landscape.

cinematography is a+++. probably the best part of the movie tbh. i found the movie fine, but it seemed a bit aimless/meandering. it's looks great though, and the acting is good. |

Hunger Games finale 8/10 more action than plot.

I'm not normally a big horror fan but The Babadook was pretty good.

i thought the book was cool, but the ending was weird. screaming in horror apparently solves everything. |

saw "wish i was here'. good flick if you are in your mid 30s with kids but just not happy. just not complete.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Hateful Eight I thought was the best Tarantino film since Kill Bill movies. Of course a little long, but good
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Batman vs Superman was cool but not quite as good as I hoped, but it was ok.
|
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
i enjoyed batman vs superman, also not as much as i had hoped.
suicide squad was a letdown but still cool, my favorite part was in the beginning w batman. i will say that in batman vs superman, when batman fought those guys in the warehouse - that was the best batman fight scene i've ever seen. no spoiler, it was shown in the previews. wonder woman in june 2017 and justice league in november 2017; [YT]5lGoQhFb4NM[/YT] [YT]fIHH5-HVS9o[/YT] |

i wouldn't put one ahead of the other, marvel has quantity but plenty of shit. if i had to pick one favorite i would have to choose dc's the dark knight. i'm probably forgetting some in my list below. marvel movies i did not enjoy;

thor 1 or 2
captain america 1
iron man 3
avengers 2
ant-man
fantastic 4 (not one of them)
hulk 1 or 2
spiderman (2 most recent)
ghost rider (not one of them)
elektra
daredevil
punisher (not one of them)
marvel movies i did enjoy;

any x-men or wolverine movie
captain america 2 and 3
iron man 1 and 2
avengers 1
guardians of the galaxy
deadpool
spiderman (the tobey maguire ones)
dc movies i did not enjoy;

catwoman
superman returns
green lantern
dc movies i did enjoy;

dark knight trilogy
watchmen
man of steel
batman vs superman
suicide squad
|

What what? Really? I thought it was good but not even close to Django IMO |

I thought it was good but not even close to Django IMO
I thought the ending was a little predictable for django and I think that pattern had kinda plagued some of his movies as of late...my expectations were a lil low on this one, but came away impressed. Leonardo was a lil much in django too. |

I think that was by design, overly played character. Im glad to see you guys like hateful 8 bc the reviews i read dampered my anticipation, looking forward to watching it now. I would love to see Stephen Chow and Tarantino team up. Doesnt he have like 1 or 2 more movies until he reaches his self imposed retirement of only doing 8 or so movies for his career? |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Went to see Sully last week, good but predictable ;)
Hanks was his usual outstanding self. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw magnificent 7, not bad. not exactly strong, but not bad.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
saw World War Z. it was better than most zombie post world apocalypse flicks but not in the "28 days later" category.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The last 9 movies we saw, in the order I liked them. None were bad:
Rogue 1 - not perfect, but what the prequels should have been. La La Land - They can sing and dance AND act? Neat. Before I Fall - As good as Groundhog Day, with a different type ending. A Dog's Purpose - A sweet dog movie. Sing - another good movie to take the kids to see. Collateral Beauty - hit or miss plot, but great acting. Passengers - rapey, but good action after dealing with that. Hidden Figures - a lot PC revisionism, but the space race was cool. The Space Between Us - seeing the kid stumble around was the best part. |

Yup. Miniseries when I was a kid was epic |
