Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
i've read mixed things about kyle on texans boards. some feel like you do. others say he's overrated and not that great of a coordinator himself. in either case, he'll only get better working under his father, so thats good. kyle obviously WANTS to work with his dad, so that increases the likelyhood that we'd have a good coordinator who WOULDN'T leave us to take a HC gig elsewhere. The value of this can't be overstated - look how bad the Giants D was this year without spags. we wouldn't have that problem here.
on the flip side, are there potential dangers to having a son work for his father? would other coaches on staff become disgruntled over real/percieved "special treatment" that kyle would receive? if there are problems ever develop in the family, would they affect the product on the field (or visa versa)? if Kyle ends up becoming a liability, how could shanahan fire his own son?
Doesn't matter if Kyle is that good or not! Daddy will be there to bail him out if needed.... Let's focus on years and years of having a Good GotDamn Coach!!!! |

having Kyle here means that, after Shanny is done in 5 or so years, we will already have a young successor in coach place. Could be nice to have him groomed by Daddy for a few seasons! |

Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
why don't you wikipedia shanahan and cowher's coaching records? cowher's steelers were in the playoffs 75% of the time. they won the division 50% of the time. his win/loss record is superior to shanahans. he has more recent success than shanahan. his team played in a division very similar to our own. cowher's record is vastly surprior to shanahan's in every respect i can think of.
if anyone was a blind squirrel, it was shanahan - he only won 1 playoff game since elway retired. whereas his team got worse over the years, cowher's got better. shanahan's a good coach, and a great upgrade over zorn, but cowher is the superior coach. its not even debatable.
The only problem is Shanahan runs the WCO which JC has been under for the last 2 yrs. Cowher runs a Schottenheimer style offense. We basically would be definitly starting completely over most likely with terminology as well. If we stay with Shanahan the turn over would be less stressful on the players and they might adjust to it quicker since they have been already running a WCO. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
There is a report saying that Snyder is meeting with Shannahan now and Bruce will meet with him later. Sounds like bad news to have Allen out of the mix in the beginning.
There are a lot of people who wonder how good Cowher would have been without his staff. You don't get those same questions quite so often with Shanahan. Of course, I would think that wherever Cowher goes he would have a top notch staff. Still, some food for thought I suppose.
I'm probably more excited about Kyle Shanahan quite honestly. I think he's the real deal
Here, Here. I honestly think Kyle will turn out to be great. Plus he's young like everyone wants. M.Shanahan, I presume, will be named HC/President. Then after his 5 year deal is up maybe moves into the President roll and lets his son take over as HC. Bam. We have the young HC you all want with a fresh mind set and ideas. I don't know about anyone else but I'm excited about this idea. I'll agree Cowher or M.Shottenheimer would have been better for our situation since I think someone with a take no BS type mentality needs to be here. But if Allen is given full control then perhaps he'll be the big bad wolf and the players will need to participate as a team or get the F*** lost. |

one of the earlier reports said Bruce Allen had talked to Shanahan this morning, before Redskins One took off that way. But I can't believe that today is the first communications, so it isn't like this is anything other than dotting the i's and crossing the t's on the contract language. |

Allen and Shahanan have been speaking for days (if not weeks) and spoke extensively this morning. Nothing to get worked up over. I know that for jobs I've had I've always interviewed with my direct supervisor and the head of the department/company separately and then together. |

why not bring in Rob Ryan as DC

Slow your roll. DS and Shanny have been friends since 2003. supposedly talk all the time. DS tried to hire him last off season and Shanahan said no give Zorn one more year. Mid season DS ran to Shanahan to see if he would take over and Shanahan said again no taking over mid year would not change how the team played. It's obvious he would need to install his offense instead of using someone elses. He would have failed also and fans would have been wanting his head at seasons end. Great play by Shanahan. I would guess the whole meeting with DS is a friendship meeting to say hello and maybe get a feel for who all he would need on his coaching staff or how many, so DS has an idea of how much money he will need to spend for coach's alone. Then the meeting with Allen is his official meeting that DS promised he would stay out of.... you know letting Allen run the team and not interfering. Don't get worked up over something we all wanted all along. |

You know I wondered the same thing other then he runs a 3-4 and I wasn't sure if we wanted to change. Plus he is currently with the Browns and I don't think his contract is up so we would have to give him one of those fancy smancy names. Then I looked at the Browns and wonder why would we want them when teams have found ways to beat them. Unless they don't really have the personel to run it effectively. But I too keep wondering would Rob Ryan work out? |

Campbell actually was "born" to play cowher's shottenheimer-style offense. Wherever Cowher ends up, I would not at all be surprised to see Campbell follow him. Campbell was DRAFTED to play in a shottenheimer-style offense and he spent the first years in the NFL in that type of offense. the WCO actually exposes alot of his faults. He's gotten better at it, but its still not "comfortable" for him. in any case, Campbell has been in enough offenses in his career, i really doubt there's anything that will be "new" to him at this point. (Un?)fortunately, the chances of Campbell being the Redskins QB next year appear slim, so it really doesnt matter. |
Re: Report: Shanahan to DC done deal
Rob Ryan spent four seasons (2000-03) as linebackers coach on Bill Belichick's New England coaching staff. Ryan's unit helped contribute to Patriots wins in Super Bowls XXXVI and XXXVIII. Did a great job as The Oakland Raiders coordinator.
