Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
When they were researching for the original Top Gun movie, the producers went to the U.S. Air Force and asked them for their support and to make it an Air Force movie. In one of the most colossal PR f-ups of all time, the Air Force said no. Probably thought it was too juvenile or something.
The Navy said yes and the rest is history. Of course, since then the Navy has probably recruited a million seamen based on watching the movie. I guarantee that most of those recruits were not F-14 or F-18 pilots. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The night Top Gun came out I went to see it. I was probably 12 or 13 at the time. When we got there we were told our ticket included a surprise free screening of a new movie that would be released in the next few weeks. I remember being all nervous because a friends dad had taken us and now we be late getting home. We had to stand in a line to use the pay phone to call our folks and letting them know the details. My dad thought I was BSing but eventually let me stay and watch both movies.
Oh by the way the name of the free movie we got to watch first: Ferris Bueller's Day Off Talk about the best movie night of my life. 2 classics in one shot, we were so blown away by the time my dad picked us up. |

There was just some unbelievably bogus aspects to Top Gun that made all the guys in my squadron just laugh at it. But that's Hollywood. I hope this new Top Gun will be a little more realistic - I mean flying a fighter is just such an incredible experience. There's no need to over-exaggerate some things - it's cool enough on its own without going so over-the-top. Also, the F-18 is a much better plane than the F-14, and it has much more variety in its missions. |

Great story...Ferris bueller is a freakin classic. If I’m flipping thru channels and it’s on, I always stop. Also I’m going to the movies for this one: [YT]ELeMaP8EPAA[/YT] Margot Robbie is such a hot piece too |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Crazy there will be sequels to Coming to America and Top Gun next year. Will be hard to top the originals but think there will be plenty of interest in these new ones next year.

wewlads. I'm not one for seeing a ton of movies in theaters, but this will definitely be one. Joaquin Phoenix is just the right amount of crazy to make this work. |

Went and saw Joker last night. I don't need to sell anyone on it, go see it. Super chilling performance by Joaquin Phoenix.

I think Im going to see it tonight. I heard its good but can get grating to watch like Reqiuem for a Dream was. Hereditary - scary movie, more thriller then pop out gory but ti has its pop out moments. Give it like a 8/10. Plot was somewhat unique. edit - Jojo Rabbit looks real good ... indie black comedy it appears to be. |

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
The Irishman delivers. And of course Scorsese is 110% right about comic book movies...they are trash and it’s not filmmaking.

I saw the Irishman a few weeks ago in the theater, great movie but I thought the last half hour or so dragged on a bit

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Knives Out - really good but not near the 98% or whatever it has on Rotten Tomatoes.

man I thought Joe Peci stole the movie. IMO Paciano isn't Jimmy Hoffa, they should have looked at Michael Shannon but I think he was probably way too tall. |

I know this will sound funny but I know people through the Locals I worked for (both Teamsters) that knew Hoffa and they say that Al was a better Hoffa than Jack was but they say that he was pretty close to the way Al portrayed him ,I wouldn't know and these guys are old as dirt so who knows if they remember him right or not. Still thought it was a great movie. |

How did Pacino play Hoffa? As a hard ass Teamster willing to bust heads and kill and bribe his way to the top? Is it worth seeing? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is a different movie then Nicholson's Hoffa ,that was more what the public saw this was more of what was going on in the background. This is a great movie at least I thought so, but long. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Four Christmas - i knew going in it wasnt a good movie but me and the lady wanted to watch some sappy rom com holiday comedy .. turned it off after 30 mins. Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon just mailed it in and you could tell. Apparently they hated each other shooting it, you could tell.
Simple Favor - was good, give it a 4/5 or so. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively were good, I wouldnt pick it if it was just me watching but was a good couples movie. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
I really want to check out Uncut Gems with the Sandman. Heard its really good

Still a timeless classic. Uncut Gems is also on my watch list. I'm excited to see Sandler redeem his name again. |
Re: Merged: The Movies Thread
Funny Games (2007) -- it was okay. I was expecting to be shocked and guilted for watching senseless grotesque violence but it wasnt really shocking at all. Would not recommend. Had the same feel as Invitation.
