Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
I agree with you. I'm all for giving Shanahan another year to prove he's the guy to turn things around, but it sounds like if the front office is not willing to give him an extension (and right now I do have to say there's more reason not to) then I doubt Mike would stay as a lame duck head coach. Then again, maybe he doesn't see it that way? In the end, I just want this team to win. I don't care who the head coach is, I just want this team winning on a regular basis. Playoffs, Super Bowls, etc...
The flip side is that he's said on many occasions that he told Snyder 'unless you're going to give me the full 5 years, don't hire me'. So if I'm Snyder I'm throwing that right back at him. I'll give you the full 5 years but nothing more until you prove to me you've earned another 3. Make him match the commitment...if that's the route they choose. |
Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
I saw someone mention on Twitter that Coughlin won the SB in 2007 as a lame duck coach. So it's not really a deal breaker.

This is true, so who knows what happens? Ultimately, I don't care who the coach is, I just want this team winning and playing championship football.

I think the difference there is that Coughlin hadn't yet won his superbowls. Shanny's predigree is very different than that of Coughlin's at the time. |

Yeah but Coughlin was still a well established veteran coach even before the SB wins which only solidified his status. My question is does Shanahan walk away from $7.5M and the challenge of getting this team on track? I have a feeling Snyder will be reluctant to fire him, so ultimately it will come down to what Shanahan wants to do. Come back and be a "lame duck" and earn an extension or walk away? |

Not true though. He got a 1 year extension in January 2007 |

As I'm understanding it he was given another year but only 2007 was guaranteed. |

But I mean technically he had the extension |

Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Obviously you didn't, because your prior point was that a head coach doesn't need to stay late to be successful and you used your "inside source, lol" from an era in which Gibbs was pretty much done with coaching (1992) to prove your point that a coach doesn't need to work late to be a winner. And then added that Gibbs was the one (1992) that stayed late, lol! Such a contradiction. And then I point that fact out to you, and then you say your point was that Joe Gibbs spent almost all of his time on offense - lol! Sorry, but you did a piss poor job of proving your point. I'll certainly agree to disagree, because you're wrong, lol!
You sound like a cry baby 5 year old trying a little too hard to prove your point. The person that worked for the Redskins basically said..." Gibbs and his guys worked more hours than the guys on defense". So my point was...was one side more successful than the other? I don't think so. I was just saying that there is no need for a coach to stay until.."the wee hours" to win. You obviously took offense to it. |

I don't think he lacks in confidence or ego. If Snyder isn't going to fire him I find it hard to believe he would walk. |

I think the real question is Shanahan willing to fire Slowik, Burns, Haslett, and possibly Kyle? I don't think Dan keeps him if he isn't going to shake up the coaching staff. |

Right technically on paper he did, but it wasn't really a true "we believe in you all the way" type of deal I guess is what I'm saying. That came after the season when he got a new 4 year deal. I suppose we could do the same with Shanahan so he's not truly a lame duck HC. |
Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
I have no doubt Shanahan's agent is also getting a sense of if there might be something else out there for Shanahan. Like if Snyder says thanks , but no thanks could the Dolphins be waiting to swoop him up?

Y would he want to go to Miami? Yuck
