Knives out was good. I over rely on rotten tomatoe scores so I had an over-hyped expectation for this movie.

Once Upon the Time in the West - rewatched this classic. Going through the Sergio Leone catalogue, hard to believe he only did 9 movies. hes like the Tarantino of the 60s-70s. Sometimes brutal violence. if you havent watched it and like his others (good, bad ugly etc) ... its a must watch.

Gone With the Wind -- Ive never seen this and really want to.

Not a movie but I am rewatching Twin Peaks from the 90s. So cheesy it is fun.

Re: Getting ready for an awesome year of movies

Gone with the Wind is a classic, although it views the South through the eyes of 1939 America.

Trivia: Vivian Leigh is actually British. Clarke Gable’s real wife was killed in a flying accident in 1942 while on a War Bonds Drive. Gable then entered the Army Air Corps in the Bomber Command, which was extremely hazardous early in the war. Mostly he made movies for the Air Corps but they did allow him to do some combat flights.

Lesley Howard (Ashley Wilkes) was also British, had served in WWI and was killed in service in WWII.

Train to Pusan is excellent.

Def one of my favorite movies of the last five 5 years...in a period of just terrible movie making, this movie stands out. And that chick in there is a flippin smokeshow.

Beastie Boys story... if you're a fan it's worth the watch. Basically an abridged version of the book.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

Such a good flick. Daniel Day Lewis is one of the greatest actor of our generation.

My all time favorites bad guy/antagonist in a movie is Lewis as Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York. Nobody could have played that role except him.

There will be blood...Lewis at peak level. Maybe his best strongest performance.
I read the book it was ok, the book. Not sure of the movie.
So finally saw the movie Dr. Sleep. One of the better movies i have seen in awhile. I thoroughly enjoyed it, i am also a big king and shinning fan. I honestly got say I enjoyed the movie more then the book. Though the book laid more background into The Knot and Rose so thta may have helped enjoy the movie more, where the movie vaguely goes over those characters past. Watch the directors cut its on HBO.

So got Apple TV to change it up. Couple things I’ve peeped..

Greyhound - Pretty damn solid. If you like war movie, this one is done well. Ima big fan of military history, this is an overlooked challenge of WW2 keeping supply chain rolling across The Atlantic. Tom Hanks, he’s money.

Beastie Boys Story - so one of my all time favorite bands. This brought a shot of nostalgic energy as their story is told from the mike d and the king ad roc directly on stage...and really is a tribute to the primary creative force MCA who died in 2012. I learned a lot actually about the background of how they got together. It’s really amazing to see just how creative these 3 were...real artist.

Crawl - the alligator movie. Wasnt bad but with the reviews and rotten tomatoes score, I was hoping for something a little but more. Kind of wished it embraced a more of a 'zombieland" type action movie, where the gore was a bit more over the top, action characters were true caractures.

The movie tried to stay to realistic in an unrealistic premise/setting.

I liked Crawl !

Deep Blue Sea 3 is decent too.

They are both TNT Sunday afternoon movies you will rewatch someday and take a nap through half it.

Crawl was good, this is a "me" problem but when I see high rotten tomato scores and read reviews sometimes my expectations of the movie pre-screening become unachievable. Crawl was good but I was expecting a kinda cult hit. and I love the tnt sunday afternoon movies too.

but I do feel like the director was trying to straddle 2 different genres and ended up with an uneven movie and failed at achieving either genre .. one trying to make it seem realistic "could happen" and the other being an action crowd pleaser. Like it wanted to be a fun movie theater scare joint but also wanted to not come close to the sharknadoo category.

I wish it embraced a more "zoombieland" fun action movie but also high production value, character development and coherent story arc ... the gators looked great, the shooting and lighting and camera angles were well done ... it could have been more.

I do it to myself. often. usually in the dark.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood -- have it on netflix dvd and have watched it 3 times in the past 5 nights. just really good, dicaprio's acting is amazing, brad pitt's character was one note and he didnt get the same opportunity as leo to show a full spectrum but he did a great job acting like he was on acid. that bit of scene acting he did there was awesome.

love the movie, love the details, love the feel

really hope Tarantino doesnt stop at 10 movies (his next is no. 10)

The ending makes the movie,IMO.My wife and I went to the movies to see it and we walked out about 3/4 thru,I kept waiting for something to happen, thought it was pretty fucking boring.Fast forward a month when I see it again at home and see the ending and boom ok now I get it.It's hard for me to grade this movie because I thought it was pretty boring till the end, while all of tarantino's other films I enjoyed as i was watching them

I agree , it all comes together at the end ,wasn't sure I would like Leo in this but he and Brad both did a great job in it. I realize Taratino's movies are over the top but the gore at the end did start to get to me.

Re: Merged: The Movies Thread

I hear what Htown is saying, I thought it was kinda disappointing when I watched it in the movies. I was expecting some Kill Bill Pulp Fiction shit.

But, Ive watched the movie maybe 5 times in a week span and it grew on me. Its some masterful cinematography and acting and feel .. its kinda odd bc it doesnt have a real compass. There is no traditional "conflict-resolution" so the "plot" seems plotless and the "hero" ends up being Brad Pitt's character Cliff who bashes a hippies brains in savagely and enjoyably while on acid (which is what the manson followers were supposed to do).

If you watch it just going in looking to watch a good movie and not expecting Kill Bill 3, its awesome and pretty amazing.

The Florida Project -- with the hand held camera feel and the "day in the life" type story telling it was like a less interesting Gummo. It was good and Im glad i watched it .. but also feel kinda flat. The mother's over acting and inconsistent weird accent at times bothered me.

It was good, id recommend it if you like indie movies but I wont be watching it again.

City of Embers - a family movie, pretty good, surprised by all the good actors in it. With Covid we are doing family movie nights on friday and saturday night so we are running out of options.

Creep 2 - it was interesting, I loved the acting but it wasnt what I was looking for. Was looking for a more classic horror movie to watch with the lady in bed with candles lit and this wasnt it. I havent seen creep 1.

In my family we rotate turns on who picks the movie for Friday and Saturday night.

Babysitters guide to monster hunting - 2020 netflix family movie for halloween .. it was good for what it was.

Hamilton -- (my fucking 8 year old picked this) i can appreciate the unique work it was to create ... but to this 42 year old beer drinking dude .. it was real long and I felt drained afterwards. Like all the happiness was drained from me. Like a dementor from harry potter started sucking my soul out and no one came to stop it.

and no blow job .. after the kid went to sleep, my lady said she was just joking

Borat 2 was good (unless you're a conservative with no sense of humor - any political replies @ me in the politics forum)

Saw Tenet with the bro a month ago. My brother loved it so much he wanted to see it again, I thought it was alright but kinda hard to follow, in the same vein as Inception I guess.

Uncut Gems was probably Sandler's best serious role flick, honestly I was happy with the ending because I disliked his character. Definitely one of Sandler's best acting jobs in a while though.

hamilton it was good, I can respect the work that went into it, I knew one day id have to watch it. Im proud that I did it and got it over with. i think every guy should have to watch it.

Peanut Butter Falcon - shai lebaouf (I like him, most dont).. it was alright. A malcontent with bad luck and no purpose in life meets a down syndrome guy with a simple singular purpose in life. Its a straight forward "odd couple" randomly meet up and go on a journey together type plot.

It goes quickly, enjoyable enough to watch. Light hearted with some touching moments.

Good one to watch with the lady in bed while you occassionally scroll your phone.

It Comes At Night -- this was before covid but it revolves around a mysterious sickness spreading across the country. No spoiler, you figure that out right away. Kinda like A Quiet Place in that it is set exclusively in a rural home setting, but not nearly as good imo. but its still good.
Left a lot of unanswered questions, too many imo. I read the director wanted it like that bc "this genre people always demand explanation" and he wanted to be different and he wanted "people to come to up with their own explanations" = cheesy crap imo.
Didnt live up to the good reviews I read.

Green Room - if you liked the punk scene, I would give this a watch. Travelling punk band play a show in rural neo nazi land. Patrick Stewart as the bad guy.

^^ i think both of these are A24 films

I've heard good things about Green Room, one of those movies that didn't get a lot of press but solid nonetheless.

Yesterday - interesting plot (a sudden phenomena happens where no one in the world knows/remembers the Beatles but this one struggling song writer), great acting, found the love arc based on one character being oblivious a good bit annoying.
I cant believe Ed Sheeren agreed to play the character he does, comes off as egotistical.

The Haunting (1999) - decent scary movie if you have kids aged 8-14 range. Lots of big name actors.

I watched the Jay and Silent Bob reboot on Sunday.

For those who don't know, my username originated from my love of the first one, it was and still is an all-time favorite of mine.

Which is why I'm sad to say I thought the reboot was terrible. Nothing against the diverse new cast and cameos from the old cast, but the jokes were incredibly weak. I started losing interest halfway in. It makes me wonder whether Kevin Smith has anything left in the tank as a writer.
