Rexi,

Gore definately looks like he's going to be a stud of a back. However, to compare him at this point in his career to the likes of E. Smith is crazy. Moreover, I think you underestimate LT's ability to shed tackles. LT looks small, but he's 220+ and has VERY powerful legs. When LT gets hit, he shed tackles like he's covered in grease and has one of the meanest stiff-arms in the league. To say otherwise is simply crazy-talk.

LT is the best running back to come into the nfl since barry sanders.personally,i think when it's all said and done,LT may be up there in legend with a man who i think was the best nfl RB ever, walter payton.

I don't think it's crazy to compare the two becuase I'm talking about ability, not what they have accomplished. With LT, he isn't nearly as powerful as Gore, not even close. When Gore get's a decent crack from the line he will usually punish whoever tries to tackle him and push piles nearly every play. With LT if he breaks a tackle it's usually an arm tackle or just a poor angle taken in the first place. He isn't close to Gore in terms of power running. Just like Gore isn't even close to LT when it comes to speed, like I said the are very different backs. Gore relying on power and vision to be successful where as LT relies on his ridiculous straight ahead speed after his first cut.

Hold on. I want to make certain we are are all talking about the same two players: LaDainian Tomlinson of the San Diego Chargers and Frank Gore of San Francisco 49ers.

LT's got a lot more than straight-ahead speed. If straight-ahead speed were enough to make a HoF-caliber back, Trung Canidate would be in Canton by now. Granted, you acknowledged that LT has more than speed, but I just think you are vastly underestimating his other qualities. His breakaway speed is only the beginning, he's got tremendous vision, agility, AND power. Plus he can catch, throw, and block. It's not anyone one characteristic that sets LT apart, it is the entire package.

I agree that LT as ridiculous speed and agility, but when it comes to power I disagree. The guy just doesn't push piles or or flatten defenders. He relies on speedy and agility (and vision to some degree, but he doesn't come close to guys like Barry Sanders with unpredictable cuts). LT doesn't do everything well, but his style works great for him. Same can be said of about everyone.
