Re: Worst Defense in the NFL
me neither matty...the offense has come together and the special teams has been solid but the defense ,why bother right.....
and they certainly have stunk up the joint this season. so this whole offseason should be spent on the defense and resigning our own players and please use the draft get some picks and actually pick up some people. we don,t need another free agency fenzy offseason.
I agree with your ideas about the approach to the off-season- for once let's not pull a glitzy free agent shopping spree. Can't see where the offense has "come together". St. Louis was the first time in eight games they've managed to break 20 points. |
I have faith that they will beat the Lions but the postseason looks grime with the defense level of play. If Dallas doesnt get to the big one this year there is even more hope to look to next season as a promising one. I can not say the same for Washington.
With the exception of your RBs and TEs, your offense is old. Your defense is overrated. Romo is as consistent as the Redskins defense. Parcells might leave. ......So tell me again why you are so hopeful about your Cowboys. |
Re: Worst Defense in the NFL
Wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that we had Skins fans on here lamenting how Dallas is superior because they build through the draft and we ruined our team with overpriced free agency busts?
Do we need any more proof of just how much rides on the shoulders of an NFL QB? |

thats right on target my friend, i would say the future of the skins looks more promising than the future of the cowboys right now. the skins offense is improving every week and with the return of a healthy portis and a full off-season of campbell learning, i'd say the offense is in good shape the defense will bounce back. they might not be in the top 5 next season but they will be much improved. a new safety,(springs) another cb (nate clements) and a new pass rushing d-lineman (first draft pick) |

But how else are we to fix the defense? Can't do it with draft picks. And we know we can't stand pat with the secondary. As much as I hate it when this team goes berzerk in the offseason with free agent signings, I don't know how else they can do it. |

However, there are capable players available at relatively reasonable prices every year. I'm not saying don't sign any free agents, I'm saying quit getting all starry eyed and throwing money at "name" players. We also need to get away from the assumption that this problem can be fixed in one off season. That's how we approached the offensive issues last off season and (obviously) the "quick fix" route didn't work. |
Re: Worst Defense in the NFL
I think a lot of animosity is being thrown on the offense for leaving a lot of oppertunities on the table. And rightfully so, last year we were very good at converting our few and far between successful drives into points. But this year, we've put toghether a lot more quality drives. A LOT more. Don't look at a few select scenarios when you have the entire body of work to look at. That says that we are about on par with last year. Don't underestimate the value of an offense that even in ultimate failure, can move the ball down the field. Field postion is directly proportional to how many points a team scores.
Looking foward, its very good that we get more oppertunities to score per game. We may not be successful right now. But going foward, those problems are easily fixible with the personel we have. Likewise don't overestimate the ability of a D that when given ideal field position, squanders it and fails to force turnovers ever. Points for/against simply don't tell you enough about the team to predict future performance. Yards are much better at that. These problems aren't as fixible with the personel we have. |

Though we have some needs that need to be fixed badly by established vets. The three things we NEED in free agency: 1) Cornerback (Nate Clements) 2) Middle Linebacker (London Fletcher) 3) Blocking TE (Kyle Brady or a guy who played for Al Saunders, Jason Dunn) We also need to shore up the LG spot and the easiest way to do that is resign Dockery. The draft or bargain bin signings can account for all those other needs on the DL and OL, and maybe we can even take a late round CB or S for added depth. |

That depends because he did finish close to the top in his previous 2 season so they are not going to just fire him off of this years showing |
Re: Worst Defense in the NFL
what we need is consistency and continuity
this year is all new to us, esp the defensive players and the offensive coordinators. also we need to get ready during the training camp. gibbs is to lenient in this years camp |

I agree - that kind of short-sightedness by the Skins is what is causing a lot of the problems now. GW has proved he can run a top-10 defense year-in, year-out, so he deserves the chance to get this D running the way we know it can. |
Re: Worst Defense in the NFL
I still think someone will have to be the scapegoat for the season and I think GW will be that person. I'm not saying he should be canned but I think the organiztion will not be able to resist making someone the scapegoat for what is without a doubt the most disappointing season in redskins history.
