Yeah, it's the beer. Cause I'd like for you to name 10 QB's better.
Also, please name other scrambling qb's that have won a SuperBowl.
Roger Staubach. Two Super Bowl Victories. SI names him the 4th best scrambling QB of all time just behind Young at #3. That's 2 super bowl wins. Elway has two wins as well and yes he is also in SI's top ten scrambling QB's of all time. Re: One Of Michael Vicks Home Raided By Police
How about the fact that Steve Young is the ALL TIME career leader in passer rating with a 96.8. He also had the single season record until Peyton beat him in 04.
By the way, Peyton's career passer rating is 93.5. He led the league in completion percentage for 4 consecutive years. (94-97) Only Len Dawson with 6 consecutive years, did better. He also had the 3rd best ever single season completion percentage 70.28 in 94. He holds the record (tied) for most consecutive games with 300 or more passing yards. 6. Tied for best all time in most seasons leading the league in touchdowns. 4. Including 3 consecutive seasons which is 2nd best all time. 2nd all time in most seasons leading the league in average gain. 5. And most consecutive seasons. 4. How many qb's put up numbers like him...especially when you figure in he ran for 4239 yards, and 43 Rushing tds over his career? Not including Tampa, the first year he was a full fledged starter in SF, he was an all pro...and went on to be an all pro for 7 consecutive seasons. (92-98) He played 3 games in 99 and retired. It's a shame he lost the majority of 5 seasons in SF as a backup, and started his career in tampa (2 years), otherwise his numbers would be astronomical. He has all the tools. He is extremely accurate, had a strong arm, was very fast and could scramble with the best of them, and he found the endzone frequently. What more could you want...the man was a winner. Best ever.
Get em! |
Re: One Of Michael Vicks Home Raided By Police
Elway and Favre are scrambling quarterbacks just to start with recent champions.
Favre has never been a scrambling QB. In his CAREER he has 1774 yards, and only 13 rushing td's. He only averaged 3.37 yards per carry. Not a scrambler at all. Young averaged 5.87 yards per carry. Elway was a good scrambler. Not what Young was, but he was good. 3407 career rushing yards, 33 tds rushings...of course he did it over more years than Young. He had a 4.40 rushing average which is respectable. |
Re: One Of Michael Vicks Home Raided By Police
I always thought FAVRE was more of a scrambling QB than I guess he was. He is great moving out of the pocket.
I'm sure they will have a ring eventually. But throughout history, the only good scrambling QB to win a super bowl was Steve Young. But he was one of the best qb's EVER (i think he's THE best).
This argument says the only good scrambling QB to win a Super Bowl. |

Staubach had 2264 yards, and 20 tds in 131 games. Young had 4239 yards, and 43 tds in only 38 more games. They also have Staubach ahead of Vick...paaalease! Vick is likely the fastest QB ever to live. They also named Tark the best scrambler of all time when his career average was only 5.44 and ran for 3674 yards rushing and 32 td's. Plus, his inferior numbers took him 77 MORE games. Young is better, and SI should reconsider their stats. |

Well, technically you are correct. But my point was a scrambling QBs with great passing stats. Something that Vick and Vince Young do not possess. So throughout history, only Staubach, Elway and Young have put up passing numbers and could scramble. That's a small group, and great company. I just don't see how you can say that Young is worse than a top 10 all time QB. He's number 1 in my book. My stats prove it. |
Re: One Of Michael Vicks Home Raided By Police
There are only two better scramblers than Young in the history of the NFL...and that's Randall Cunningham, and Michael Vick. There is absolutely no one with a better passer rating than young. He was truly amazing. A rare combination of speed, arm strength, brains, decision making ability, and accuracy. No one compares to all those.

Re: One Of Michael Vicks Home Raided By Police
Here is my problem with Steve Young out of the league's all-time top 50 QB's he ranks 34th in pass attempts, 20th in completions, 21st in passing yards, and 19th in passing TD's. Also, he started for SF for 8 years and the best that he could do was 1 SB.

No way is he top five |

I would like to see what Elway could have done if he was throwing to the best WR ever to play the game. Young was good but come on it wasn't all him. Throwing to Rice didn't hurt him any. |

Yeah, but you have to look at how many games he played, you can only produce huge numbers when you play a lot of games. Also, he went up against a dynasty in the Cowboys. For as much as we hate the Cowboys, they were studly in the 90's. That 1 Super Bowl validated his career. Don't forget, Steve Young was 24 before he was drafted by Tampa...he started much later than most QB's...this is because he stayed in school and got educated, unlike some of the morons the NFL employs now-a-days. |
