Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
It's pretty damn stupid to say JC was the sole reason for this loss. Did anyone watch the game? A number of mistakes accounted for today's loss. Did JC have a couple? Yes. Did he have all of them? No.
He's very young and inexperienced as NFL Qb's go. Let's wait a little while before we pass judgement either way. I like the 300 yard game again. I like his poise and leadership. And I like the fact that he is much better than last year. I have a feeling he'll work his butt off in the offseason and come out better than this year. I think some people think he should just step right in and be the second coming of Joe Montana...Be realistic. Have a little more patience. He is showing some signs of good things. |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
If Jason shoulders the blame, then who is he letting down? His wideouts dropped 4 passes in the first half, the running game is going nowhere, and the blocking is sporadic at best. We're getting no explosive plays, very little run after catch, and no one outside of Campbell making a play. So yeah, lets blame the one guy on the team who has shown some improvement. Or we could look around at the other skill positions and wonder when they're going to start pulling their own weight. I blame Moss, Portis, and Heyer for letting the d-end come around and hit Jason at the top of his five step drop.
Well said (except for singling out Heyer--he deserves a break almost as much as Jason does). |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
Definately a problem, every game, and usually by santana, or randle el, or portis, the guys we should be relying on to get us the wins.
Yup. If the season were to end today, the most memorable image of Santana Moss this season would be the bomb Campbell threw to him in Green Bay that HIT HIM IN HIS DAMN FACE MASK at Green Bay's 10 yard line. It was, of course, shortly thereafter that Moss took himself out of the game. Yeah, a real pro. It's amazing Campbell is actually making progress considering the cast surrounding him. |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
Hopefully the figures line up correctly below. Guess who each group of stat lines belong to?
G | Comp Att PCT YD Y/A TD INT 11 | 155 293 52.9 1749 6.0 9 18 15 | 226 399 56.6 2579 6.5 11 18 7 | 110 207 53.1 1297 6.3 10 6 11 | 219 364 60.2 2384 6.4 22 16 Top - Troy Aikman in his first 26 games. Bottom - JC in his first 18. Draw your own conclusions. I was going to say the JC is playing like any 2nd year QB. But he is actually playing a little better. His decision-making needs to improve in the red zone; but this can be the fallout of so much being placed on his shoulders. Soley resoponsible for the loss to the Bucs? No. Two veterans combining for three lost fumbles. All leading to points, two inside their own 20-yard line. If you're a finger pointing type... |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
I do want to say that I don't think he should get a free pass. He made some bad decisions and it's cost him two games. But a lot of young QB's make bad decisions, and most of the time bad decisions by young QB's are death by a thousand papercuts, to the point where your team just flat out gets killed.
Jason's mistakes have cost the team games, but only after his *good* decisions gave the team a chance to win them in the first place.
Good play is just fine if you don't wast it on a couple of bad plays. If a QB throws 10 great passes to lead a team down field then throws a pick on the last play then those 10 other passes were wasted. The problem I see is that he keeps repeating the same mistake and not learing from them. |

Moss is split wide left and is not a factor on the play and we make the TD and Moss gets called for a holding penalty and we then lose the game who's fault would it be for the loss? |

JC has to take some of the blame of course for yesterday, but he is in no way solely responsible. All year Moss and Portis have fumbled and/or dropped passes in critical spots and frankly it's getting really old. JC has an excuse, he's young and inexperienced. What's the excuse for Moss and Portis? |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
Outside of two throws JC played great yesterday. Plus he had probably 4 drops? He was really throwing some great passes. We were leaning on him yesterday and he almost came through just like last week. But when you throw two picks in the redzone it kills the team. Hopefully he will learn from this. JC is starting to become an elite QB. He is almost there, but he's just not there yet.

The Gibbs of old would have had him on the bench after that sort of carelessness. There's no accountability around here anymore. |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
JC shares some of the load, but by no means is it on him.. If Portis & Moss don't cough the ball up 3 times in 5 plays then it's a different game. Campbell needs to improve his decision making/execution in the red zone but some of the craziness I saw on here after the game (comparisons to Ramsey & calling for Brunell to play the final 5 games) is way overboard. He's played like any 2nd year QB, even better IMO, but he still needs help from those around him.

Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
True, JC is young and inexperienced. BUT, he has to take a signifigant amount of the blame as the team had rallied in the second half to KICK TB's ass with and without Garcia at the helm.
What I want to see him do is learn from his mistakes, as they have hurt especially bad in the last couple of games (and I believe he will) as we were in position to win both. He MUST stop focusing only on his primary reciever so often, and use his check down guys more. He is very fortunate to have no more INT's than he does, as he has thrown a number of balls into coverage, and gotten away with it. All in all, I believe JC's the man (and I feel bad for him as I know he will take this hard) and will make a francise QB. Maturity WILL happen It was a rough loss as the TB fans were stroking out as the Skins could not be stopped!!! Much trauma!!! HTTR |

Well we did see more of Betts in the 2nd half, not sure if that was due to Portis fumbling or his overall ineffectiveness. I don't agree that there is no accountability. Even with 2 fumbles Portis is still our best back and he needs to be out there in crunch time. |
Re: Is Jason Campbell Accountable for this Loss?
A free pass? No. I just feel like with a young QB you have to expect picks. It's going to happen. I feel Portis and Moss are much more at fault for this game than Campbell. If we'd stop putting him in this position it wouldn't be that bad.
you said it very well! Maybe if we would of had more confidence in JC early on then he would made his mistakes then and been ready for this adversity! |

Yes he made some great throws but with the 3 redzone pickes he has thrown over the past two game has erased all the good play. He IS NOT an elite QB in the NFL with the mistake he is making and he keeps repeating the same ones. |

He was the offensive key to bringing the team back yesterday.
