Re: I give you the first 12 picks, Give me your Redskins draft pick!

To clarify:

If I ask Joe Schmoe with a mock draft how likely he thinks it is that all four tackles will go before the Skins pick, he might say 1 in 10 or 1 in 12. I'd say it's closer to 1 in 3.

But if I think there is one player the Skins will end up with, it's Oher, because there's a greater "we'll take him if he's there" probability than with any other player.
We'll agree to disagree then. I thought he'd be a bust also, until I watched a bunch of game tape
Watching the Ohio State Bowl Game it became clear that Laurinitis doesn't have the wheels to make it t the edge. He couldn't stop any sweeps in that game. No thanks.
Um...yeah. Something like that.

I think there will be a lot of demand for the big four, and it's a larger chance than most people realize that they all go in the top ten. With that said, it's probable (but certainly not a sure thing) that at least one slips through the cracks and I believe it will be Oher.

I'm not making much sense today.
Gotcha.

This is a solid mock draft, and presents a scenario where Oher would be available (even though they have us passing on him).

Oher has been and still is my top choice at the end of the day...and I think the Redskins feel the same way
According to my draft board I would take Alex Mack. Michael Johnson and Moreno would also get consideration.
Incidentally, Michael Johnson only did 20 reps of 225 lbs. in his pro day bench press...a whopping one more than Andre Smith

I would have a hard time understanding what the skins were thinking if Oher was there at 13 and they passed on him. At worst, hes a franchise RT- which, incidently is probably our most pressing immediate need. If Oher can be consistent and reach his potential under Bugel, then he's our franchise LT for the next 10 years or more.

The only way i think the skins pass on Oher if he's there at 13 is if they have a partner to trade down and theyre enamored with somone like Britton.

Draft Countdown - 2009 NFL Mock Draft
Well, any Mock that still has Stafford at No. 1 isn't very helpful. The tackles are the currency of this draft, and the Lions are nearly certainly going to spend the first overall pick on one.

It's not that the Lions won't take a quarterback in this draft, it's that they know it's a weak class and won't spend the first overall money on a QB.

No. 20 or No. 33 is a completely different story, regarding the money though.

If Wright really thinks the Rams are looking to go tackle in this draft, that's two tackles, one and two, right off the board from the get-go. But the Rams could always shock us and go for Stafford, Curry, or Crabtree.

I agree with you, if I had to choose I'd choose Oher. He's the safest pick available and (like you said) he can become a decent RT, and at best he could be a pro bowl LT.

Interesting. I'd be happy w/ Oher, though I know there were earlier character (?) concerns, but honestly never thought it was realistic for him to fall to us. Could be a great draft this way.

If we do get Oher or A. Smith in the first I hope to hell we take Sidbury in the 3rd round. Local kid and just a marvel... i think the only thing that kept his draft stock from sky rocketing is that he comes from small ball... could be all for the best if can get him in the 3rd :)

Oher's father was not involved in his upbringing (and was murdered when he was a junior in high school), and his mother was addicted to crack cocaine. As a result, he received little constructive attention during his formative years. He repeated both first grade and second grade, and attended eleven different schools during his first nine years as a student. He also alternated between time spent in various foster homes and periods with no fixed address until he was sixteen years old.[1]
That year, Oher applied for admission to a private school, Briarcrest Christian School, at the instigation of acquaintance Tony Henderson, with whom he was staying temporarily. Henderson was sending his son to the school in order to fulfill the dying wish of the boy's grandmother, and he decided that Oher might as well come along. Although the school's football coach was interested in Oher, school administrators did not feel that he was capable of handling the school's academic workload due to his scant educational background; however, he was admitted after he attempted to qualify for admission through a home-study program that removed him from the public education system.[1]
A white couple with a daughter at the school, Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy, allowed Oher to move in with them and began taking care of his needs after becoming familiar with his difficult personal circumstances. They also connected him with a tutor, who worked with him for twenty hours a week, eventually bringing his low-D performance up to a 2.05 grade point average. A series of internet-based courses from Brigham Young University served as replacements for poor marks earned earlier in his academic career, enabling him to become eligible to play football in college.[1]

I have not heard one thing about his character being a problem. Oher was taken in by a Christian family and has been growing as a man more and more as time goes on. I think he has the right attitude to be successful with this team.

Wow... Oher has seen the rough side of life no doubt. From that story i think the kid deserves a ton of credit and all the luck in the world.
