Well don't people bitch about how we don't build through the draft, develop players, and always go with old players at the line? Well, this is an opportunity change our ways and develop a player we drafted by letting him play with the other starters and add youth to our o-line.
Though I think we probably have some good choices with Montgomery and Rinehart...what better way to develop your young players than having them actually play.
True -- they'll have to play at some point. I think we'd all prefer to have somebody beating out Randy Thomas on a performance basis though.

Agreed..though this may be a good way to part ways with a guy who's losing his abilities due to age.

From 2001-2007, there were no offensive linemen picked in the first three rounds of the draft. That's a pattern. And not a winning one I might add.

edit: check that -- first two rounds of the draft (Dockery, 3rd round 2003)

They drafted Dockery in 2003 in the third

Well, I understand your rant, but the Redskins under Gibbs chose to build through trades and free agency. Now that Vinny is doing most of the decisions, that may change. Just look at how much progress has been made in two years. Not to bash Gibbs, but he just did not believe in youth, he believed in vets.

Good post. I know this is blasphemy but Gibbs seemed to want to hold on to these aging lineman.

Wrong, when Gibbs came over Samuels and Dockery were young, Rabach,Thomas were fairly young FA, Jansen was the elder player if that's what you want to call a player in his mid 20's.

Ray Brown, Jason Fabini, Pete Kendell, and Todd Wade were all washed up veterans that played for him.

I don't recall them to be starters with the exception of Brown, can you say veteran backups?

Can you say old as crap or Pete Kendall. If you see what I said, was we have a youngster to go in and play guard.

Progress? ehh... if we'd have had this year's 2nd and 6th round picks instead of Jason Taylor's 2.5 sacks last year, I might agree.

Gibbs' only concern was winning right now, so much so that he mortgaged the team's future to do it. A 2nd for Portis, a 3rd for Brunell, a 3rd and 4th for Duckett, a 3rd and a 4th for Lloyd ...
