And you know what. Screw Lavar Arrington. I am sick of listening to his crap.
Even then they ran the ball well and protected the QB. The offense wasn't exactly elite that season but the defense was just plain horrible.
I think the line was very good in 2005 and 2006. It actually wasn't bad in 2008 either, but the attrition of that group over a two month period was incredible.

My only point is the warning signs in 2007 were pretty blatant. The only solution we got was Rinehart.

I think the only time the O-Line struggled at the end of 07 when the Seatle D-Line manhandled us. Other then that I give them credit for the win streak at the end of the season.

08 was funny because during the first half we had one of the best lines in the league and one of the worst by the end of it. But yeah that downfall still shocks me.

Re: Offensive Line

Isn't this all **BUGEL'S** fault??

I mean, do you really think Snyder or Cerrato said, "Let's not focus on the O-line"?? Isn't it Bugel instead who probably kept telling them, "You don't need to draft an O-line, I can make any scrub a Pro-Bowl offensive lineman."

I just see Snyder as a guy with money who asks the coaches what they think, and I'm sure they talked about the O-line as a group after last season.

Re: Offensive Line

I know I've asked and perhaps one of you answered it but are the Skins not allowed to raid other teams practice squads?

You know Andrew Crummey OL is on the Texans PS. Could we not bring him on board? or is there some expensive contract issue that keeps us from picking him up? Here's a list of some of the other teams PS OL...

Eric Young RT Rams
Trevor Canfield G Cards
Jermey Parnell T Saints
Chris Clark T Vikings
Johan Asiata G Bears
James Marten T Bears
Jaimie Thomas G Colts
Andrew Crummey OL Texans
Adam Stenavich T Texans

Edit: Andrew Crummey, Johan Asiata, and Trevor Canfield interest me.

There is nothing stopping us from raiding those players from the practice squads of other teams.

I would add that, if memory serves, Green Bay recently released Jamon Meredith and he might be worth a look.

I would not mind seeing Crummey back here. Hopefully with Mike Williams out, they'll bring him.
Big Mike Williams is stuggling at Tackle. He would be better at RG. We need to get Levi Jones at LT and Heyer back to RT. Move Mike Williams to RG. Might help a little.
By way of injury to MW, you'll get 2/3 your wish this sunday. I'm curious and hopeful. I think this line might be the best they've put on the field since Samuels got hurt, assuming Levi can play somewhat close to his previous form.

If MW can come back & play RG in a few weeks this patchwork line might be in top form for the offseason!

Campbell seemed more comfortable when Jones was at LT. Well he's had 3 weeks to get the system down, hopefully he will do well.

Re: Offensive Line

Ok so here's what I think I know....

Heyer was limping, hurt, was it his knee or high ankle sprain?
MW will be out 2-4 games. Injury.
Rinehart re-injured whatever part of his body was injured before.

Did I miss anyone? The obvious Samuels is IR, R.Thomas is or should be IR. At this point is it worth it to keep the above three and keep nursing them possibly making their injuries worse? When we could go on a O-lineman spree and pick up a bunch of healthy young talent who I imagine would give JC maybe a second longer to get rid of the ball instead of playing injured?

and...I know the guys I listed may be camp scrubs which we always hear someone saying "otherwise they wouldn't be on the practice squad" but I'd almost prefer 4 or 5 young and healthy O-lineman blocking for JC at this point vs. wondering who is going to allow the jail break this time cause they are all playing injured. Wouldn't it be funny if we did pick up a bunch of young healthy guys and they found a way to bond this yr and actually blocked well.

Probably never happen but you never know.

Jason Ried just made a point that the Redskins had signed Kyle DeVan as an undrafted fa and then released him when Rinehart signed his contract. He started last week for the Colts. So whose to say at practice squad guy can't contribute?

Re: Offensive Line

I'm all for getting players from someone else's PS for depth, but we NEED a franchise tackle (since we lost ours). And the best way to get it will be with that first round pick.

BaltimoreSkins 11-10-2009 01:37 PM

Re: Offensive Line

I agree 100% with that statement. I think we need to spend more than 1 draft pick on oline. I was more thinking of depth.

I think that is not a bad idea. If we raided other practice squads for very young players, it would function as kind of a pre-draft. If a player works out then we have added a young promising lineman. If no one is good enough, what have we really lost in this dark year?

The problem is, at this point I do not trust Vinny to intelligently cull linemen from other rosters.
