Trade back.

Re: Redskins pick 4th in the draft

I say if we can trade down take C J Spiller keep Campbell and Brennan, build offensive line through the rest of the draft, and free agency (there are a few lineman out there) and we'll have someone that can take it to the house anytime he touches it whether at RB,WR, or returner. I think we could use a player like that on offense , because we don't have one right now..
Agreed, but at the same time if he does come out he's probably a mid-rounder. Shanahan could take him and develop him while starting Campbell for one more year-which isn't all that unlikely.

Shanahan is definitely drafting a QB this year. I just don't know where
I don't think Snead should leave school early. He had huge expectations on him this year, and he was pretty much a dud. He could improve his draft stock significantly if he sticks around Ole Miss for his senior year, plus he won't have the likes of Bradford, McCoy, Clausen, and Tebow to compete with. I mean this season his completion % was in the low 50's and he threw 20 INTs. I want no part of that dude.

I would probably recommend Snead return as well. And I'm not advocating him, just saying he's a possibility.

I like Snead but I probably like Zac Robinson better and I honestly don't know that I really want either one when all is said and done.

Wasn't it Snead they were calling the interception machine?

okung, clausen, suh in that order. i really think all 3 of these guys could be gone and i hope shanny/allen can work some magic and trade back for value if that is the case.
While I think has the physical and mental skills to to eventually be a good NFL QB, i don't think he's NFL-ready right now. However, my main distaste for him is less tangible and has more to do with his personality - or atleast what i've seen of it. he has the persona of a cocky (not the same as confident), smart-ass kid who thinks too much of himself. I heard his interview with vinny cerrato and he just seemed like a total douche - he didn't seem like someone who would earn the respect of the locker room. To me, he just doesnt have the "it" factor. i don't see him as a "leader." Sam Bradford, Colt McCoy and Tim Tebow do. they have the persona that commands respect. While there is a high-risk, high reward factor with all of those guys (less so with Tebow), Bradford and McCoy are guys I can see being "manning/brady-esque" in their ability to make guys around them better, take the team on their shoulders, and win games. A guy with Claussen's attitude will never achieve that. I'd rather not gamble on any of these guys in the 1st round, but Claussens completely off my "board."
You may want to re-evaluate your thoughts on the QBs you mentioned. Clausen did step into a leadership role this year. ND would've been much worse if not for Clausen. McCoy (did you see the Big 12 Championship) and Tebow are system QBs that won't have NFL success. Bradford is debatable, but not too many OKL QBs have fared well in the NFL, again, system QBs.

If Clausen's there, I take him. If he's gone and Bradford's there, I trade down or go with the best LT.

From Todd McShay:

3. Jimmy Clausen, Notre Dame junior. Gets away with putting the ball up for grabs too often. However, he has enough size, accuracy and arm strength to develop into a solid starter in the NFL. He has shown toughness and leadership this season, which were previously question marks on Clausen's scouting report. Experience in a pro-style offense and solid mechanics will only help him on draft weekend. Projects as a first-round selection.
4. Colt McCoy, Texas senior. Love his toughness and leadership skills. He shows touch and timing as a short-to-intermediate passer. But no quarterback in (Division I-A) has a lower percentage of his completions travel beyond 5 yards. That reeks of a system QB that might struggle to transition to the NFL. In addition, I have major concerns about his deep accuracy. He throws off-balance too much for my liking. I can live with drafting him as a developmental project in the second round, but first round is too rich for my blood.
5. Tim Tebow, Florida senior. He's obviously a sensational competitor and the type of guy you want on your team. But where do you play Tim Tebow? I will be shocked if he's ever a fulltime starting QB. We've never seen him catch or block, so it's tough to draft him as an H-back in the first couple of rounds. Sure, the Wildcat package is a possibility, but he's not very fast or elusive, and that's only a part-time role. Tebow will probably be taken in round 1, but I would not draft him before round 3.

You might want to re-thinking giving any creedence to anything Todd McShay says about... well, anything. The dudes clueless.

Clausen and leadership have no place in the same sentence. McCoy is arguably a system QB, but i'd take him over Clausen. Tebow's a good value pick later in the draft. Like i said earlier, i dont really like any of these guys. they're all projects and its a waste of a 1st round pick to draft a project QB. Hopefully Shanny can find a QB he likes in the 2nd or 4th.

Neither does any of the folks who put together the 177 Mock Drafts on the Walter Football site, which a majority list Clausen in the top 5 picks, many have him # 1.

But that being said, outside of Clausen, I don't like any of the other QBs in this draft in the 1st round. If Clausen is gone, then hopefully we get our coveted franchise LT or are able to get a sweetheart deal to trade down.

Two teams to look at that might decide to trade up for a QB, they both have 2 1st round picks this year Seattle & San Fran both uncertain at QB. We could trade back & gain another draft pick possibly another 2nd round pick.

Why don't you like Bradford as a first round pick?

Alex Smith was already named the starting QB for 2010 in San Fran

Re: Redskins pick 4th in the draft
I'm not overly impressed with any of the QBs in this year's draft; however we do need to draft a QB in 2010 or 2011. 2011 could be even "slimmer pickings" than what we have this year, so we might not have much of a choice. There aren't many top tier OTs in this draft either, so taking a QB may wind up being the "smartest" move. I don't like Clausen at all. We'd be better off taking Tebow at #4. I'm indifferent to McCoy. I could live with Bradford. Not really familiar with Pike and Snead.

Drafting Okung with our 1st and then snagging Tebow with our 2nd would be nice. I don't think Tebow will be a great NFL QB, but Shanahan could use him more effectively than most other coaches. ideally, shanahan could work his magic Colt Brennan turn him into a player. I'm not a cult-of-colt member but he's "free."
bradford- had all day to throw in college, coming off huge shoulder injury, im very wary about him.

clausen- most starting experience in a pro-style offense, started from day one with a pretty bad nd team his first 2 years. i like his potential.

tebow- hell of a leader, really long throwing motion, but i really do think he can be a good pro qb, just not at #4

pike- played in a very qb friendly syetem, look at what collaros did when pike was out. im wary about his true ability, i would not be pleased with drafting him.

snead- i dont get why everyone has/had a hard on for him. he was ok last year, and was average to crap this year.

mccoy- i dont like how he projects to the nfl. maybe worth a shot in the 3rd round but i wouldnt take him any higher than that. good leadership and intangibles.

if you want a sleeper qb maybe later in the draft here are my picks

max hall, byu- very accurate, pro-style system at byu. smart qb, just lacks in arm strength. maybe grab him late.

thad lewis, duke- has been one of the top acc qbs for quite a while. played with a pretty bad supporting cast all these years yet put up good numbers. late round sleeper.

riley skinner, wake forest- 4 year starter, extremely accurate, played with a questionable supporting cast. has some mobility as well. not typical pro-size which hurts him.

General NFL rule #432 - Avoid college spread QB's who worked primarily out of the shotgun like the plague.
Why don't you like Bradford as a first round pick?
Big C and wilso make good points. Oklahoma QB's have put up big numbers and not translated into the pros (Josh Heupel, Jason White). Bradford didn't play particluarly well in the BCS Championship last year. He also doesn't play under center. At #4, his bust risk is too high IMO.
