Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
probably been said on this thread...but Carlos Rogers sucks...period......he is a liability.....If I was the QB on the other team I would be focusing on him the whole game. He always seems to be giving too much cushion, can't tackle that well, and has hands like salad tongs......he has 1 interception a year for the past six years, on average. Gave up a penaltly today to get an interception and still dropped the ball.....pathetic............Hall had a terrible game also, but I have much more confidence with him, at least he can catch the ball.!........as long as Rogers is in the game....a 3rd and 5 is a gimme.......in most cases.....unless the QB has a bad pass......I hate him.....!
The Phillips 3-4 has the NT penetrate the backfield. There is not bs hold your ground and sit pretty stuff going on there.
Agreed. I love the way Phillips utilizes Jay Ratliff's quickness at NT. Big Al might be more receptive to playing NT if given similar freedom to penetrate upfield.

AMEN.. When I said 22 was bush league earlier during the game, people actually took his back.. The guy is a terrible Starting CB, he constantly gives up stupid plays and has his whole career.. It would be different if he made plays on the ball and actually got INT's, but he hardly ever does that. He talked shit on the organization last season and should have been cut then. |

I disagree but whether he is a bum or not he is the best corner on the team from a coverage standpoint. So we cannot get rid of him at this point. |

Even if we let Big Al do whatever he wants at NT we do not have the linebackers to play a 3-4. I said this as soon as it was announced as the direction that we were going. The 3-4 is based on linebackers and we are at least an offseason or two away from getting the parts that we need to be effective. |

It could be argued that Fletch isn't that great in the 3-4 either. He is going to need to be replaced sooner rather than later too. We are no where close and can someone explain to me why Carter is playing over Chris Wilson? Carter is useless in this defense. If I knew a synonym for useless that was more accurate, I would insert it to describe Carter. |

I think Carter is someone who should be traded before the deadline. He's above average as a 4-3 DE. As a stand up OLB he's pretty much garbage. |
Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
Carter is definitely not a fit for the 3-4 and did anybody else notice how the guards got downhill and were able to get to Fletcher before he could make a play to stop the run? I noticed on several running plays that the guards were quick to get downhill and either chip or block him enough that he couldn't get to the running back.
I probably shouldn't have put the "fire Jim Haslett" part in the title because I'm not on that bandwagon but I figured enough people are already pissed at him that I might as well. My whole point, and the point that several people have already made, is that why does Shanahan say we are trying to win now when we know it's gonna take multiple years to transition to a decent 3-4? Going into the season I had my doubts that we could take last year's 4-3 starters and transition them into 3-4 roles and it looks like that's a big part of the problem now. So do we just have to sit back and accept that we won't be trying for the division title and that it's going to take multiple years to transition to an effective 3-4, or what? What we've seen so far is an attacking defense that everybody and their mothers' know how to counter, but we haven't seen Haslett adjust to the offenses' adjustments. Either way something needs to be done. |

Re: The Official Defense Has Major Issues/Fire Jim Haslett Thread
First off if we haven't hit the panic button already, we definitely did it today.
Hasletts defense would be great if we had either a great NT/secondary, or if we just stayed with the 4-3. I think the defense will improve. today to be honest we just played bad on both sides of the ball. and someone asked if theres a dominate NT coming out next year in the draft, and the answer is J. Powe from Ole Miss. |

Several of us argued to trade him last spring while his value was at its highest (coming off 11 sacks). With each passing game, his trade value drops. |
